Introduced in 1929, "PP" stands for ''Polizei Pistole'' ("Police Pistol" in German) and is a full-size, small-caliber pistol intended to be used as sidearms for law enforcement and military. The Walther PP initially saw enormous success, however in recent years it has largely been replaced by its smaller and lighter successors, the PPK and the PPK/S. The Walther PP has been offered in .22 LR, 6.35mm Browning (.25 ACP), 7.65x17mm (.32 ACP) Auto or 9x17mm (.380 ACP). Due to a decline in interest, the Walther PP was fully discontinued by the year 2000, however Walther is still producing the PPK and the PPK/S.

The Walther PPK | The Walther PPK is a Walther PP with a smaller frame, slide and barrel, intended for use by detectives who need smaller guns for undercover work. Introduced in 1931, "PPK" means ''Polizei Pistole Kriminal'', or "Criminal Police Pistol". This is a departure, since the "K" in a German firearm name typically refers to ''kurz'', or "Short". The ''Kriminal'' in the PPK's name refers to the fact that the gun is issued to the German ''Criminal division'' (''Kriminalpolizei''), the criminal investigation agency within the German police system, which would be termed 'Detectives Division' in most U.S. police forces. Just like most patrolmen in the USA carried a 4 inch revolver at the time, and the Detectives often carried a snub nose revolver suitable for concealed carry (Colt specifically calling theirs ''the Detective Special'') so too did the investigative branch of the German Police desire to carry a smaller version of the full sized patrolman's duty weapon.
The | The PPK has become one of the most popular firearms of all time as the weapon of choice for fictional British Intelligence (MI-6) officer 007 James Bond. Also, since it was the most common compact German pistol of World War II, it is also notorious as suicide weapon of Adolf Hitler. The PPK has been manufactured in 6.35mm Browning (.25 ACP), 7.65x17mm (.32 ACP) Auto or 9x17mm (.380 ACP). An even lighter variant of the PPK was produced, the PPK-L, which had an aluminum alloy frame rather than a steel frame. These were only chambered in .32 ACP and .22 LR because of the increase in felt recoil from the lighter weight of the gun. The PPK-L was only produced in the 1960s.

Following the strict implementation of the Gun Control Act of 1968, the PPK was declared too small for further importation into America after failed the "Import Points" test by a single point. Wanting to to fix the problem, Walther slapped a PPK slide on a PP frame and built the PPK/S, so it would meet the heavier weight requirements. "PPK/S" stands for ''Polizei Pistole Kriminal/Special'', referencing how it is a PPK with a longer grip frame. The first PPK/S pistols were made in West Germany in 1969, but because United States law allowed for domestic manufacturing, the PPK/S was first manufactured under license in 1978 by Ranger Manufacturing in Gadsen, Alabama. Today, it is produced at Walther's factory in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The most notable way to tell a PPK from a PPK/S is its finish (a PPK/S is far more common as a stainless gun than a PPK) and longer frame spur. Also, Walther did manage to sell more pistols that would otherwise be banned under the harsh rules of GCA-68 by building them domestically (Walther U.S.A.).

Walther PP
Introduced in 1929, "PP" stands for Polizei Pistole ("Police Pistol" in German) and is a full-size, small-caliber pistol intended to be used as sidearms for law enforcement and military.

Walther PPK
The Walther PPK is a Walther PP with a smaller frame, slide and barrel, intended for use by detectives who need smaller guns for undercover work. Introduced in 1931, "PPK" means Polizei Pistole Kriminal, or "Criminal Police Pistol". This is a departure, since the "K" in a German firearm name typically refers to kurz, or "Short". The Kriminal in the PPK's name refers to the fact that the gun is issued to the German Criminal division (Kriminalpolizei), the criminal investigation agency within the German police system, which would be termed 'Detectives Division' in most U.S. police forces. Just like most patrolmen in the USA carried a 4 inch revolver at the time, and the Detectives often carried a snub nose revolver suitable for concealed carry (Colt specifically calling theirs the Detective Special) so too did the investigative branch of the German Police desire to carry a smaller version of the full sized patrolman's duty weapon.
The PPK has become one of the most popular firearms of all time as the weapon of choice for fictional British Intelligence (MI-6) officer 007 James Bond.

Walther PPK/S
Following the strict implementation of the Gun Control Act of 1968, the PPK was declared too small for further importation into America after failed the "Import Points" test by a single point. Wanting to to fix the problem, Walther slapped a PPK slide on a PP frame and built the PPK/S, so it would meet the heavier weight requirements. "PPK/S" stands for Polizei Pistole Kriminal/Special, referencing how it is a PPK with a longer grip frame.

Kimar Lady K
A blank firing replica manufactured by the Italian company Kimar (a subsidiary of Armi Chiappa) the Lady K can be identified by the lower position of the magazine release catch, and the rounded extension to the frame around the assembly pin above the trigger. With the barrel permanently blocked and gas port relief holes drilled in the top of the chamber, it is definitely in the class of starter pistol and won't fire a flash in front of the barrel, but straight up.
