Catacombs (Katakomby ) is the third film of Soviet TV series Waves of the Black Sea (Volny Chyornogo morya) (filmed in 1975, released in 1976). It is a screen adaptation of the novel "Katakomby" (also known as "Za Vlast Sovetov") by Valentin Kataev. The story is set in 1941-1944 when Odessa is occupied by Nazi Germany and its Romanian ally. The main characters, Pyotr Vasilyevich Bachey and Gavriil Semyonovich Chernoivanenko, are among Soviet underground fighters in Odessa and partisans underneath the city, in famous Odessa Catacombs.
The series is the second screen adaptation of the novel after 1956 movie For the Soviet Power (Za Vlast Sovetov) .
