The '''PM''' ''('''P'''istolet '''M'''akarova - Makarov's Pistol)'' is a Soviet designed small-calibre handgun adopted by the Soviet military in 1951. It replaced the pre-WW2 designed [[TT-33]] pistol. The PM was adopted by various Eastern Bloc nations, including East Germany and Bulgaria. The design uses a simple blow-back mechanism for cycling, making it easy to maintain and simple to produce, which has helped the PM's continued service in various militaries and police forces around the world, and has also found new life as a concealable pistol on the civilian market.

The PMM (''Pistolet Makarova Modernizirovannyy'', "modernized Makarov pistol") is a modernized variant of the Makarov designed in 1990. The design is updated to utilize a higher-pressure variation of the 9x18mm round to give the weapon a higher muzzle velocity, and features a widened frame to fit double-stacked 10- and 12-round magazines. It was put into service and began mass production in 1994, but it never replaced the standard PM; PMM used mainly by the MVD and FSO.

The '''RARAN Prototype 1300''' (also known as the '''Konovalov Submachine Gun''' or simply '''Prototype 1130''') is a prototype full-auto machine pistol conversion of a Makarov pistol. The conversion was attempted by Alexei Konovalov, lecturer at the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences (Russian: Российская Академия Ракетных и Артиллерийских Наук; '''''R'''ossiyskaya '''A'''kademiya '''R'''aketnykh i '''A'''rtilleriyskikh '''N'''auk'') around 1998, but ultimately never passed the prototype stage. Only one was ever made.

The sample itself was made not as a potential combat weapon, but as a proof of concept of creating an automatic weapon with the shortest possible bolt, while being distinguished by a (relatively) low rate of fire for better feeding and controllability, which could then be used to develop a new SMG on this scheme.

The pistol used a sliding bolt mounted on top of a Makarov slide. A foregrip was also present and the weapon was cocked using a charging handle on the left side. The overall design of the weapon is rather crude. It was capable of using standard Makarov magazines and fires at 950 RPM.

The PM (Pistolet Makarova - Makarov's Pistol) is a Soviet designed small-calibre handgun adopted by the Soviet military in 1951. It replaced the pre-WW2 designed TT-33 pistol.

The Makarov PM and variants can be seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:

Makarov PMM - 9x18mm Makarov
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Baikal 442 - 9x17mm Browning/9x18mm Makarov/9x19mm. This is the commercial version of the PMM; which can be confusing, so the original-design PM variant is also sold under that name. However, the PMM-based version can be distinguished by its angular triggerguard and wide grip.

The PMM (Pistolet Makarova Modernizirovannyy, "modernized Makarov pistol") is a modernized variant of the Makarov designed in 1990.

The PB (Pistolet Besshumnyj, "Silent Pistol") is an integrally suppressed version of the PM with a somewhat unique two-part suppressor; the secondary suppressor (the front) can be detached for concealment, and the weapon can still be fired in this state. The RARAN Prototype 1130 (also known as the Konovalov Submachine Gun or simply Prototype 1130) is a prototype full-auto machine pistol conversion of a Makarov pistol. The conversion was attempted by Alexei Konovalov, lecturer at the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences (Russian: Российская Академия Ракетных и Артиллерийских Наук; Rossiyskaya Akademiya Raketnykh i Artilleriyskikh Nauk) around 1998, but ultimately never passed the prototype stage.

The alternate name of RAMA 1130 comes from an incorrect translation of the academy that Konovalov designed the weapon at (Russian Academy for Missiles and Artillery).
