To Survive (also known as Red Mob; Russian title: Чтобы выжить, Chtoby vyzhit) is a 1992 Russian thriller. Events take place in 1991 before the collapse of the USSR. Emissary of the former "party mafia", nicknamed "Jaffar" prepares and implements a series of provocations and terrorist acts on the outskirts of the country to create the preconditions for a coup. During an attack on a military base, Jaffar's chief smuggler gets wounded.
Bandits urgently need to smuggle a drug caravan across the Afghan border. Jaffar tries to force a former army officer named Oleg to act as a guide for the caravan by taking his son hostage. Oleg and his army friend, Nikolai, enter an uneven fight against Jaffar's gang using all the experience of the mountain warfare.
The following weapons were used in the film To Survive (Chtoby vyzhit):
Several Jaffar's henchmen use the FN Barracuda Revolvers. Nikolai (Sergey Veksler) also takes a FN Barracuda from a gangster in one scene (which is too blurry to take a good shot).
One of the main weapons used by the mercenaries is the Sa 26 submachine gun.
IMI Uzi
Several Jaffar's mercenaries carries the IMI Uzi submachine guns. Oleg (Vladimir Menshov) also uses Uzi in the night shootout.
Shotguns
Mossberg 500
Nikolai (Sergey Veksler) used Mossberg 500 shotgun with rifle sights in the beginning of the movie. Being that it is a 1992 year, chances are that it's a fully rifled barrel, made for one of the many "Combo" shotguns (fully rifled shotgun barrels were legal in Russia until the 1990s; "Combo" shotguns with they can still be found on the secondary market within the country, but any import of them has since been banned).
Assault Rifles
AKS-47
At least four AKS-47 rifles are visible among the weapons that the gang steals from the police station. AKS-47s are later used by many Jaffar's henchmen.
AKS-74U
Plenty of AKS-74U rifles are seen at the beginning of the movie in the armory of the police station.
AKS-74
The AKS-74 rifles, some fitted with bayonets and synthetic furniture, are visible in the hands of soldiers, when terrorists attack a military base. In the end of the movie, Jaffar (Aleksandr Rozenbaum) uses an AKS-74 with wooden furniture and fitted with a GP-25 grenade launcher.
M16A1 (with XM148)
Nikolai (Sergey Veksler) uses a M16A1 rifle with a XM148 grenade launcher attached as his main weapon. He uses the XM148 several times throughout the film against the Jaffar's men, and in the final battle blows down Jaffar's Mi-8 helicopter with the last 40mm grenade.
Heckler & Koch G3A4
Nikolai finds a Heckler & Koch G3A4 rifle in the weapon stash of Jaffar's caravan, and uses it in the night shootout with bandits when his RPK runs dry. This is a rare early version with slimline handguard.
Sa vz. 58
Several mercenaries carry Sa vz. 58 rifles. In one moment during the firefight on the terrorists' base, Nikolai grabs a Sa vz. 58 off a fallen mercenary and uses it.
Machine Guns
RPK
Nikolai uses a RPK LMG in the night shootout with Jaffar's bandits until he runs out of ammo for it.
PKM
The PKM machine gun is seen among the gang's weapons, and later is used by them during the night shootout. Another PKM can be seen carried by one of the soldiers at the roadblock.
UK vz. 59
The UK vz. 59 machine gun seen on the wall of Jaffar's base.
KPVT
A KPVT HMG are seen as the main armament of a BTR-60PB deployed at a roadblock.
Rocket Launchers
RPG-7
Nikolai also uses a RPG-7 against Jaffar's bandits.
