The '''Ithaca Model 37''' shotgun is the longest continuously-produced shotgun in U.S. history. It was based on a competitor's previous design in 1933 and was introduced in 1937 and has been manufactured continuously until this day. It is popular with sport shooters as well as home defense and police and military. Soldiers in wars after World War II have opted to carry it as a short range weapon in the field. It was popular among soldiers and elite units in Vietnam, usually for the man on point, since it was a sound design and very robust.

It was based on a competitor's previous design in 1933 and was introduced in 1937 and has been manufactured continuously until this day. It is popular with sport shooters and is also popular for home defense applications. It has also seen service in the military and numerous police departments. Soldiers in wars after World War II opted to carry it as a short range weapon in the field. It was popular among soldiers and elite units in Vietnam, usually favored by pointmen, due to its sound design and robustness.

The Ithaca Model 37 or just "Ithaca 37" appears in many films set in time periods before to its actual historical introduction. Since it is '''a descendant of the Remington Model 17 and then Model 31 Shotguns''' (Ithaca waited until Remington's patents expired to make the gun), it is essentially impersonating a Remington Model of the period. Since there are far fewer Remington Model 17s (in 20 gauge only) and Remington Model 31s in existence than Ithaca shotguns, the Ithaca 37 is a Remington Impersonator for any film set in any year prior to 1937 (and this includes the Depression and Prohibition Era films).
In 1967, magazine extensions and pistol grips were introduced by Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake (known for their [[China Lake Launcher|grenade launcher]]), specially commissioned for use by Navy SEALs in Vietnam. Ithaca shortly thereafter offered its own factory counterparts for these modifications.

One unique feature on the Ithaca 37, is that it both loads and ejects the shells from the bottom ejection port. This makes the Ithaca 37 a popular shotgun amongst left-handed and right handed shooters alike.

The '''Ithaca 37 "Stakeout"''' was an original Factory short barreled shotgun with pistol grip, designed for law enforcement (and NFA Tax Stamp holders). Though some full length Ithaca 37s were cut down, they are not "Stakeouts", only the original Short shotguns from the manufacturer can be called that. It came in both blued and parkerized finishes. Since most of Ithaca's factory receivers were created with sporting engraving on the side, many of the Stakeouts and military parkerized Ithaca 37s had the same 'sporting scene' engraved on the receiver as their field guns.

The '''YL12''' is a series of Chinese 12 gauge shotguns exported by Norinco; their exact manufacturer is unknown. Among the YL12 shotguns, some are clones of the Ithaca 37, including the '''YL12-1JZ''', which uniquely features a folding stock.

The Ithaca Model 37 shotgun is the longest continuously-produced shotgun in U.S. history.

In 1967, magazine extensions and pistol grips were introduced by Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake (known for their grenade launcher), specially commissioned for use by Navy SEALs in Vietnam. Ithaca shortly thereafter offered its own factory counterparts for these modifications.

The Ithaca Model 37 or just "Ithaca 37" appears in many films set in time periods before to its actual historical introduction. Since it is a descendant of the Remington Model 17 and then Model 31 Shotguns (Ithaca waited until Remington's patents expired to make the gun), it is essentially impersonating a Remington model of the period. Since there are far fewer Remington Model 17s (in 20 gauge only) and Remington Model 31s in existence than Ithaca shotguns, the Ithaca 37 is a Remington impersonator for any film set in any year prior to 1937 (and this includes the Depression and Prohibition-era films).

One unique feature on the Ithaca 37 is that it both loads and ejects the shells from the bottom ejection port. This makes the Ithaca 37 a popular shotgun amongst left-handed and right-handed shooters alike.

The Ithaca 37 shotgun and variants appear in the following films, TV shows, anime and video games used by the following actors:

Customized Ithaca 37 "Stakeout" with Pachymar pistol grip, vertical foregrip, and heat shield used in Miami Vice - 12 gauge

The Ithaca 37 "Stakeout" is an original factory short-barreled shotgun with pistol grip, designed for law enforcement (and NFA Tax Stamp holders). Though some full-length Ithaca 37s were cut down, they are not "Stakeouts", only the original short shotguns from the manufacturer can be called that. It came in both blued and parkerized finishes. Since most of Ithaca's factory receivers were created with sporting engraving on the side, many of the Stakeouts and military parkerized Ithaca 37s had the same 'sporting scene' engraved on the receiver as their field guns.
