Cool Hand Luke

Cool Hand Luke is a 1967 American drama directed by Stuart Rosenberg, based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Donn Pearce. The film stars Paul Newman as defiant prisoner Lucas "Luke" Jackson. Sentenced to two years of hard labor in a Florida prison, Luke refuses to be broken in the face of grueling labor and cruel guards, starting a stubborn streak of defiance that may cost him his life.
The film was nominated for several Academy Awards and George Kennedy won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Dragline. In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
