Just watched this on HBO for the first time ever. All the way through I kept picturing the armorer having to take the weapons apart all the way to the springs for cleaning, every day after shooting, so the water wouldn't rust any interior parts. Well, any movie that spends a lot of time filming in water tanks (let alone actual bodies of water) is a nightmare for everyone involved in principal photography, not just the propmaster/armorer. Think about how much everyone who worked on The Abyss hated the experience (from the film's lead actors all the way down to the lowest-level grips, assistants, and interns). From what I've read (mostly on IMDB) about this movie, it sounds as though it was a similarly miserable experience for the lead actors: Both Morgan Freeman and Minnie Driver have both gone on record saying that they hated making this movie. So far as guns are concerned: For a movie like this, I would imagine that they had multiples of every "hero" gun precisely because each gun would have to be completely taken apart for cleaning each day, and given how many weapons and how much gunfire this movie had, the production probably needed a constant flow of guns to the set for the filming of the big action scenes. I also suspect that water resistance was a key criteria in firearms selection, and may well explain why so many of the guns in this movie have stainless or nickel finishes. -MT2008 (talk) 00:29, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
