Revision as of 16:01, 10 May 2017
The Degtyaryov Light Machine gun was developed by Vasily Alekseyevich Degtyaryov at the Soviet Small Arms design bureau and was the standard issue light Machine gun for the Red Army during World War II and some years after, until it was replaced by the RPK. The most common versions are the DP (Degtyaryov Pechotnyi), the DPM and the RP-46. The DP and DPM were issued in tank mounted versions known as DT models (DTM/DA). DA and its twin version DA-2 were mounted on airplanes.
- Note: This gun (and its inventor) is almost universally mispronounced in the English speaking world as Degtyarev. That is due to the reading of the original Cyrillic of the name. Despite having an "e" before the last letter, the "e" has an umlaut (ё) so it is pronounced "yo" rather than "eh". But many times the umlaut is hard to see or omitted entirely. Thus the correct pronunciation is Degtyaryov, despite being mispronounced and mis-written all over the net.
The Degtyaryov machine gun and variants have appeared in the following films and video games used by the following actors:
