FNA-B 43
The FNA-B Mod. 43 (sometimes incorrectly referred to as the FNAB-43) is an Italian submachine gun that was developed by Fabbrica Nazionale d'Armi di Brescia (FNA-B; 'National Arms Factory of Brescia') in 1943. The design was influenced by several existing submachine guns, such as the MP 40 and Danuvia 43.M; unlike these guns, however (and, indeed, unlike most submachine guns of its day), the FNA-B 43 fires from a closed bolt. Originally intended for the Italian Royal Army, it was later produced for the Italian Social Republic and German occupation troops from 1944 - 1945. The total production quantity only reached about 1,000 units, though the serial numbers were artificially inflated to give an appearance of at least 7,000 guns made. After the end of World War II, some of these guns were trafficked to Algeria, where they were used by the National Liberation Front in their war against the French colonial administration.
