Mythbusters
Nice, but where's the trigger? This article or section is incomplete. You can help IMFDB by expanding it. |
The following guns were used in the television show Mythbusters. Since many Mythbusters episodes features guns, this list is far from complete.
NOTE: On occasion Mythbusters shows clips from movies pertaining to the myth they are trying to replicate. Sometimes those clips contain guns. I am NOT including those clips here. If you want to check those guns, look on the page for the particular movie that they mentioned.
PLEASE SUMMARIZE YOUR EDITS!
Handguns
Colt 1860 Army
A Colt 1860 Army is used in "Western Myths" (S05E10) to test the myth that you can shoot a cowboy's hat off.
Colt Gold Cup National Match (custom)
A Colt Gold Cup National Match pistol is used in "Boomerang Bullet" (S07E24) to see if a bullet can ricochet back and hit the shooter.
Both Adam and Jamie both use the same Colt Gold Cup National Match in Wheel of Mythfortune (S9E21) to test whether action movie shooting stances actually work. Jamie describes it as a "very common gun worldwide."
Colt King Cobra
A Colt King Cobra is used in "Helium Football" (S04E04) to test the myth that you can catch a bullet in your teeth. In "Myths Reopened" (S04E08), Grant, Tori and Kari use the Colt King Cobra to test whether guns fired underwater are still lethal.
Colt MK IV Series 70
In "Curving Bullets" (S07E10) Tori, Grant and Kari use a Colt MK IV Series 70 to test the technique of curving a bullet demonstrated in the movie Wanted.
Colt Police Positive
Adam and Jamie use a Colt Police Positive in "Unarmed and Unharmed" (S07E21) to test whether you can shoot a gun out of someones hand without injuring them. A Colt Police Positive was on the receiving end of the "Reversed Bullet" myth, in which they ruined a perfectly good revolver by shooting it. The crew claimed the 9mm bullet was larger than the .38 caliber chamber, yet the two bullets are virtually identical in diameter normally. However, all bullets expand slightly after being fired. Therefore, the discharged 9mm round may have been just slightly larger than the revolver cylinder.
Colt Single Action Army
Adam and Jamie use a Colt Single Action Army in "Unarmed and Unharmed" (S07E21) to test whether you can shoot a gun out of someones hand without injuring them.
In "Paper Armor" (S09E12), Kari, Grant and Tori use a Colt Single Action Army to test their paper made armor.
To test the myth of whether a hat could be shot off someones head, they used a Colt Single Action Army with a nickel finish. They also used one to test whether a silver bullet was more effective than lead. (Both proved "busted")
CornerShot with Modified Glock
In "Myth Evolution" (S07E18), the CornerShot is used to test the effectiveness of shooting around a corner.

In "Paper Armor" (S09E12), Kari, Grant and Tori use a Flintlock Pistol to test how durable their paper armor is. The expert states that it is a French gun from about 1750.
Glock 17
Tori, Grant and Kari use a 3rd Generation Glock 17 in "Mission Impossible Mask" (S09E01) to test if you can start a merry-go-round spinning by shooting at it as shown in Shoot 'Em Up.
Tori, Grant and Kari use a 2nd Generation Glock 17 with custom sights in "Spy Car 2" (S09E07) to test the myth that if you shoot a bullet into ice it will spin like a top.
Glock 23
The Glock 23 is used it "Mini Myth Mayhem" (S08E17) to test weather a hair weave is bulletproof. Unsurprisingly, it is most definitely not. It is also used, int he same episode, to test whether a refrigerator door is bullet proof. The Glock 23 is also used in "Inverted Underwater Car" (S08E19) to test whether the muzzle flash from a gun can ignite a room full of gas. To test the "reversed bullet" myth in which a criminal fired his handgun at a police officer and the bullet lodged backwards in his service revolver, the Adam and Jamie hooked up a Glock 23 to a rig and fired it at the revolver, impressed that the round did in fact lodge in the cylinder. One was also shot by Adam at several police badges to test and see if any were bullet proof, as well as a few other items for the same test. (THIS MIGHT BE A G22, Not sure)
Heckler & Koch USP Tactical
The Heckler & Koch USP Tactical is shown in "Blow Your Own Sail" (S09E06) when testing the myth of Hollywood sound effects, testing a .45 ACP pistol un-suppressed. Oddly, they ended up switching to a different, unknown 45 for the test.
Modified Glock
In "Myth Evolution" (S07E18), the Mythbusters use a Glock that has been modified to fire special gel markers.
Ruger Mk II
This pistol is seen in Mythbusters episode 85 Hot Bullets.

SIG-Sauer P226
In "Inverted Underwater Car" (S08E19) the SIG-Sauer P226 can be seen in a clip from Kiss The Girls where Morgan Freeman's character uses the gun. Adam and Jamie use the SIG-Sauer P226 in "Blow Your Own Sail" (S09E06) to test the myth of Hollywood sound effects, testing a 9mm pistol suppressed and un-suppressed. It is a newer P226R model with a tan accents. It may be a P226 Combat. In the HD broadcast the "P226" marking on the handle can be seen as Adam prepares to fire.
SIG-Sauer P239
In "Shredded Plane" (S04E02), Grant, Tori and Kari use the SIG-Sauer P239 to attempt to start a fire with a gun. They remove the bullet from the round and attempt to use the firing cap to ignite gunpowder.
In "Bullets Fired Up" (S04E07), Jamie and Adam use the SIG-Sauer P239 to test the myth that bullets fired upward can kill on their return trip.
In "Myths Reopened" (S04E08), Grant, Tori and Kari use the SIG-Sauer P239 to test whether you can fire a gun underwater. Amazingly it does fire, it does not however reload correctly.
In "Myth Revolution" (S05E18), Grant, Tori and Kari use the SIG-Sauer P239 to see if a ninja can slap a bullet away.
In "Shooting Fish in a Barrel" (S05E22), Adam and Jamie use the SIG-Sauer P239 to test how easy it really is to shoot fish in a barrel.
In "Inverted Underwater Car" (S08E19), Grant , Tori and Kari use the SIG-Sauer P239 to test whether shooting through milk will prevent the muzzle flash of a gun from igniting a room full of gas. This is based on the movie Kiss The Girls where Morgan Freeman's character does just that.
In "Spy Car 2" (S09E07), Tori is seen holding the SIG-Sauer P239 when preparing for the myth that a bullet fired into ice will spin like a top. For the actual testing of the myth, they used a Glock.
Smith & Wesson Model 19
In "Dive to Survive" (S08E03) a Smith & Wesson Model 19 chambered in .357 Magnum is used to test whether filling a car door with phone books makes it bullet proof.
Smith & Wesson Model 460
The Smith & Wesson Model 460 is used in "Thermite vs. Ice" (S07E08) to test whether holding a hunting revolver improperly will blow your thumb of fingers when it's fired.
Kari, Grant and Tori use a Smith & Wesson Model 460 in "Bike and Bazookas" (S09E13) to test the scene from Red where John Malkovich blows up an RPG but shooting it in midair.
Smith & Wesson Model 629
In "Inverted Underwater Car" (S08E19), Grant uses what appears to be a Smith & Wesson Model 629 (he states it is a .44 Magnum) to test whether the muzzle flash from a gun can ignite a room full of methane.
In "Mission Impossible Mask" (S09E01), Grant again uses the Smith & Wesson Model 629 to test if you can start a merry-go-round spinning by shooting at it as shown in Shoot 'Em Up.
Used in "Firearms Force".
Smith & Wesson SW99
Kari uses the Smith & Wesson SW99 to attempt to blow up a propane tank a la James Bond in "James Bond Special Part 1" (S06E01). Note that James Bond's pistol is the Walther P99, not its licensed clone.
Springfield Armory Loaded 1911
In "Curving Bullets" (S07E10) Tori, Grant and Keri use a Springfield Armory Loaded 1911 to test the the technique of curving a bullet demonstrated in the movie Wanted.
The gun is again used by Adam and Jamie in "Knock Your Socks Off" (S07E12) to test whether a bullet droped and one fired horizontally hit the ground at the same time.
The Springfield Armory Loaded 1911 makes another appearance in "Mini Myth Mayhem" (S07E23) where they successfully use it to light a match with a bullet.
In "James Bond Special Part 1" (S06E01), Jamie and Adam use a different Springfield Armory 1911 to test whether James Bond's watch could actually deflect a bullet.
In "Mission Impossible Mask" (S09E01), Kari uses a different Springfield Armory Loaded 1911 to test if you can start a merry-go-round spinning by shooting at it as shown in Shoot 'Em Up.
Walther P22
Adam uses an Walther P22 with a threaded barrel in "Blow Your Own Sail" (S09E06) to test the myth of Hollywood sound effects. Hilariously, it is referred to as a .45 caliber rather than the correct .22 caliber (which is MUCH smaller than a .45 and used for target shooting rather than defense) in the graphics.
Unknown 1911
The Mythbusters often use a variety of 1911 pistols. The ones listed here are ones that I have not been able to positively identify.

Shotguns
10 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
An antique 10 Gauge, double barreled shotgun is used in "More Myths Revisted" (S05E06) to re-test the myth that if you plug the barrel of a gun with your finger, it will explode. They used an antique that was made in 1877 using the old Damascus technique of heating narrow strips of metal then shaping them around a mandrel. The theory was that this older, and definitely weaker barrel might fail when the barrel was plugged.
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
In "Myths Reopened" (S04E08), Grant, Tori and Kari use a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun to test the lethality of firing a gun underwater. Turns out that a shotgun explodes when fired underwater.
A 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun is used in "Western Myths" (S05E10) to test the myth that you can shoot a cowboy's hat off.
Benelli M1 Super 90
Kari uses a Benelli M1 Super 90 fitted with a GG&G charging handle to see if a laptop computer can stop a 12 Gauge birdshot blast at point blank range in "Mini Myth Madness" (S08E17).

Tory uses what appears to be a Remington 870 in "Dive to Survive" (S08E03) to test whether phonebooks make a car bullet proof.
Jamie tested to see if a box full of pepperoni pizzas could stop different types of shotgun rounds using a Remington 870 with a peep sight. He also used it to shoot his custom bullet proof vest, in which the slug round left a gaping hole in it.
Single shot shotgun
It was used to shoot a lock and to help with "shooting through the floor".

Grant uses the Dillon Aero M134 Minigun in "James Bond Special Part 1" (S06E01) to blow up a propane tank.
FN Minimi Para
Tory uses an FN Minimi Para in "Viewer Special 2" (S06E05) to attempt to cut down a tree. It is fitted with a heat shield and has the folding rear sight of the first model of FN Minimi indicating that this gun is likely cobbled together from several different weapons. Tory mistakenly identifies the gun as the M249 SAW.
Rifles
Carcano Carbine
In "Shredded Plane" (S04E02), Tori uses a Caracano Carbine firing a modified round to attempt to start a fire. He removes the bullet and using a piece of cloth to compact the pouder in the shell. The theory was that the cloth would catch fire and then ignite their 'campfire'.
A Carcano Carbine (model 91 cavalry carbine) is used during the first tests of firing through the scope, in which the bolt is removed and the tests scopes are mounted on. also to test the Ice bullet myth.

Enfield Pattern 1853
An Enfield Pattern 1853 rifled musket is used to test whether Davy Crockett could actually split a bullet on an axe head in "Swimming With Syrup" (S07E05). This choice of rifle is anachronistic, not entering service until 17 years after Davy Crockett's death at The Alamo in 1836.
M1A
In "James Bond Special Part 1" (S06E01), Tori uses a M1A SOCOM 16 with tracer rounds to shoot at a propane tank.

The Mythbusters use the M1 Garand in "Dive to Survive" (S08E03) to do a shop test to see how many phonebooks it would take to stop a "high powered" bullet. The narrator mistaking refers to rifle as a M14 and there is also a continuity error as the Mythbusters had been using the M14 earlier in the episode. In the end, for some unknown reason, they end up switching to the M1 Garand.
M4 Carbine
Used to test if bathroom tiles covered in fiber-reinforced gypsum cement is bulletproof.
M14
The Mythbusters use an M14 in "Dive to Survive" (S08E03) to test whether phonebooks can be used to make a car bulletproof.

Mosin Nagant M91/30
In "More Myths Revisted" (S05E06), Adam and Jamie use a Mosin Nagant to reattempt the myth from the Vietnam war that a sniper killed his Vietkong counterpart by shooting him through his scope.
Remington 700
In one episode, to test the "Shooting through the scope" myth, Adam and Jamie, along with the range owner, tested shooting thought the scope with a .308 caliber Remington 700. If they really wanted to test it properly, they would have used a Winchester Model 70 .30-06 rifle, and would have known that both scopes must be perfectly aligned for the project to work. Also, Hathcock was much closer to his target, while they tested it at 100 yards and inaccurately at point blank. It was retested with a .30-06 later.
- Hathcock said in his own words that he shot through a RIFLE scope, and pondered that if he had waited another second, the other sniper would have likely done the same to him, since to shoot through the scope requires both scopes to be aimed dead on to each other.

The SKS is used to test whether a car stereo can set off a rifle. "Thermite vs Ice" (S07E08)
Unknkown .30-06 Hunting Rifle

They have the actual prop from the movie present but use a Greener Light Harpoon Gun (a weapon based on Greener target rifles, themselves originating from the Martini-Henry) to actually test the myth. Tori states that it works by firing a .30 blank.
