The Smith & Wesson 1006 is the standard pistol in Smith & Wesson's 3rd generation 10mm line. It is visually very similar to the Smith & Wesson 4506 in that it has a non-stepped frame and as standard has a longer 5 inch barrel.

Smith & Wesson 1076 - 10mm Auto

The 4.25" barreled 1076 was the gun chosen by the FBI as its standard issue gun for the 10mm Auto cartridge. The F.B.I. guns differ from civilian 1076s in that they were not equipped with the standard S&W magazine-disconnect and are so marked. The third digit of the model nubmer being a "7" means that it has a barrel of non-standard length (4.02 inches as opposed to 5 inches) and is fitted with a decocker only which is located on the left side of the frame beneath the slide release lever
