Nothing But Trouble

I redid a few of the screencaps. There's a few I missed on the first go around. The PPK, etc. So I'll get them later. --Predator20 00:31, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Alright, I think I got them all. I got a bunch of DVDs that don't have pages. But it takes a lot of time taking the caps, uploading and writing the text. It was easy doing what I just did, since most of the hard work was already done by you. --Predator20 01:08, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

- So I do the work and you take the glory. Bah, just kiddin, man, I really appreciate the help.

I try to do that as much as I can. :) --Predator20 02:15, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

- Well, it helps make the page look loads better so that's good. I guess it helps when you have a DVD collection as big as yours.

Thanks. The credit wasn't necessary. Most try to help out other members when they can. --Predator20 02:38, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

- Ah, still deserved. I figured it's pretty good community around here anyway, but I like giving credit where it's due. And your pics helped the page a bunch. You'll notice I edited a lot of the text too. Mainly in regards to spoilers and such. I'd like to not have any issues, or very few if any, heh.

I had already took that snap of the one I just uploaded yesterday and was already planning on putting it on the site when you sent the message. But it looks like they switch holsters so it doesn't really add anything. If it looks like there are any other scenes that help identify them let me know. --Predator20 04:19, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Personal Weapons

I'd like to eventually get an AR15, M1A, and maybe an IMI Galil ARM (.308) maybe an AR180 too. I got a S&W 4505, Beretta 92FS Inox and another Hi-Power too. Just haven't updated my page. A Ruger SP101 is next on my list. My revolver collection is pathetic. --Predator20 02:15, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

- Good choices there too.

Eyes closed

A few months ago the administrators passed a note around to the main users of the site; about not commenting on actors firing with their eyes closed, crappy grip etc. So I removed the text on the NBT page when she fires the Mini-14. Here is the message below. --Predator20 03:18, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

I'm asking all members to stop with the sarcastic comments in the screencap descriptions: Too many members feel it's funny to be extremely sarcastic about actor's shooting stance, their blinking, their pistol grips. Only if it's so over the top as for the average person to notice, then don't keep on harping on it. Most actors are given only a bare amount of time to train, if at all. Many times the editor picks the worst take for pistol grip, but best take for other reasons like acting. Also much of the blame falls on the director. Some directors don't want to be bothered trying to train the actors and don't allow us armorers to even give them more training than the minimum safety training. People in the industry check out this website, and some think we're a bunch of obnoxious kids. I am not happy when people in 'the biz' look at the site and scoff at the snarky remarks. Some of them are the actual actors being insulted. We can always put in criticism, but IMFDB members going forward going to criticize a film, should try to do so in a scholarly manner or not at all. Thanks for your cooperation MoviePropMaster2008 05:45, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

  • - Ah, well, I was just stating an observation. I've seen it done quite a bit so I didn't really think much of it. The point regarding the actors' sensibilities I normally wouldn't care about, but it is a valid point, and as MPM said, in a lot of cases they aren't expert shooters, so I agree it's fair to cut 'em some slack. Anyway, thanks for the edit and for bringing me up to speed on that. If it's a problem then I'll not do it - Like most people, I'm always all for things going smoothly.

Re: Re: Nothing but trouble

Thanks for the special mentioning, no problem. It's nice to see new users on this site and occasionally help them out. By the way; great work on your first page! Glad I could help by bringing some thoughts on the table. Not a long time ago, I was a new user myself (and kind of still am) and the pros helped me. Just paying it forward :D Warejaws 22:30 March 10, 2010 (UTC)

- Not a problem, like I said to Predator above, I give credit where it's due. Thanks for the help and for the kudos on my first (and probably only) page.

Politics

Don't worry. I let everyone let loose their steam (including myself. And then after a few days delete the whole thing. But to keep folks from at least venting or speaking their mind is actually a bad precedent. KEEPING it, for more than a day or so, is dumb of course, so we will sterilize the site later. :) MoviePropMaster2008 04:53, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

RE:Stan's wacko watch

I'll talk to him. Usually he puts the extra images on the talk pages, which is something I started up because of that. --Predator20 00:33, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Re:vandal- Got him thanks. --Predator20 16:58, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
re:another user- I think maybe a two week ban. Some discussions were old, but it's not his job to remove them.--Predator20 18:38, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Yeah it was fun redoing all the shit that guy pulled this morning, and one just a few minutes ago decided to blank the Hulk page.--Predator20 18:36, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Total Recall

Yeah I've read it, I don't think we're in the wrong. I think Goncz just doesn't want his name associated with Claridge, which means we're going to have to do something about this page. --Predator20 18:36, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Actor pages

You should always do a search of the actors name to see if their names might come up on other movie pages before building them a page. Like Stuart Wilson was in Hot Fuzz and used a Winchester 1300. But anyway keep up the good work. --Predator20 21:39, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Ultraviolet

Actually you should not remove those (except for the movie links which someone should). Each main movie page is allowed to have 'some' non firearms entries just for the sake of completion. You should NOT remove non firearms weapons, especially if they have obvious screen time. As long as the primary focus of the page is on Firearms, a few edged weapons is okay. If that were the case, we would have to update literally DOZENS of pages. MoviePropMaster2008 00:35, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm blushing

Thanks. I strive to be level not only in my work but in everything. I'm 42 and I'm too old for all the high intensity emotions that I used to enjoy. Plus keeping people calm helps me get my job done. But there are times when I have to be an asshole. Believe me when I tell you there are people (that i deal with) who don't understand anything else. The first time you get sucker-punched by somebody that you are trying to be fair with teaches you. I had a scrawny little 90 pound psychotic whacked out of her mind on Meth center punch me with her bony little fist and break my glasses when I was a rookie. Then she tried to get hold of a big old cutting knife. She didn't get it. Instead she went to the state mental hospital. Boy was that a hell of a lesson.

I'm not telling you this story to impress you (if that was the case she would be a 300lb man and a serial killer LOL), but just to show that sometimes cops have to be able to find their "Inner Asshole" instead of their inner child. I'm not excusing bad cops and I have worked with a few over the years. If it makes you feel any better they treat their fellow officers pretty badly as well. Just that sometimes there is a reason why we do the things we do. Truth be told there have been times in the past when I've been a jerk because the people scared/startled me. Yep scared me. In those cases once the guns have been reholstered and everybody has calmed down most people will listen and accept the fact that their behavior helped to contribute to my reaction.

Anyway thanks for the compliment. --Jcordell 16:54, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Oh and S&W revolvers are great. My last posting when I was in the U.S. Army was Fort Drum, New York. Springfield, Mass was about four hours away. In the summer of 99 I took my dad on the tour of the S&W factory. It's one of the highlights of my life. Right up there with my wedding day and my kids being born.LOL. --Jcordell 16:57, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

DO NOT REMOVE any more guns from pages

Though you may not be the one who did this, the Glock 20 was removed from the Glock page. Well, guess what? There is now an entry for it and we can't find the Glock 20. I was perplexed and got more pics of a Glock 20 until I realized that someone had removed the Glock 20 entry from the GLOCK page. The reason why we have it is so that we don't have to re-create it when an entry comes up. If you are the one who removed the Glock 20 from the Glock page, don't do it again. If you are not the person who did, which ones did you remove? Either way, that practice has to stop now. MoviePropMaster2008 15:29, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

No problem. Sorry if I seemed frantic, I wasn't, but writing and reading postings, you can't know what emotions are attached to the post. I may have seemed stern, just because another user started a page with a Glock 20 entry and he used a horrible jacked GIF image, so I figured I'd just grab the one from the Glock page, and to my horror, it wasn't there. I thought at the time, that we had never put in a Glock 20 entry which seems like a big oversight. So the entire morning I had spent some time reshooting a Glock 20 picture and section all the while thinking, "I can't believe I missed this one", and just when I was going to upload new pic, the warning popped up "A file with the identical name already exists" and sure enough, I had already taken a photo of a Glock 20. It was already on IMFDB, the section was just missing. Thanks for the response. Actually most Mods don't want member deleting ANY section as a rule. Usually the section WILL get an entry, it's just a matter of time. The only guns we delete are the really weird one offs that have no place on IMFDB. But a legitimate variant of a gun series that exists on IMFDB stays. Thanks again for your quick response. MoviePropMaster2008 22:24, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Just curious. What M1911s did you REMOVE from the M1911 page? I was trying to figure that out but I'd rather ask you than scroll through pages of historical change archives. :) MoviePropMaster2008 17:08, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Why we needed to put the title "Internet" on the main page

Check out this screed on another user's page, this complainer eventually wrote to me complaining as well. He is from India.....

Another reason for me to avoid this site I feel more comfy in writing articles on wikipedia, because IMFDB is essentially an American site and not realy international (though the word international is used in it). Administrators here find Bollywood films obscure for no reason. And they simply take these films as foreign films. Most interresting part is that how the term foreign is defined in an international website? It is simply an example of American monopoly and nothing else. An international detabase where Indian, Chinese, Russian and German films are seen as foreign. I am sure British and Australian films are not obscure as ours. Its actually a pretty good pun of its kind.

And then this tidbit on my talk page, when I pointed out that IMFDB does NOT stand for International Movie Firearms Database:

"Yes you are right, this American site does not has to somehow change to suit my view of the world. Well you can have your American site. Neither I wanted this site to comply with my worldview, nor to start an argument with you. I just had a doubt. As far as I can recall, I have never claimed that IMFDB's I stands for INTERNATIONAL. May be you are right that the DEMAND made it INTERNATIONAL. But again, people from other part of the world could easily misinterpret this as nothing was mentioned regarding its STRICTLY American nature. It is quite difficult for a non-American to understand that Internet Movie Firearms Data Base is restricted to America."

....

"You get revenue because people voluntarily contribute. Even my SUCKED UP pages give you revenue, no matter how small, but they still do so. If you think those pages are realy sucked up, please delete them (including all the foreign pages which does not meet quality standards). But please dont think in your mind that why foreign pages are left halfway finished."

Personally, I don't know what the hell he's talking about in the last paragraph, but having FOREIGN members argue with us, and claiming that we're the INTERNATIONAL movie firearms database and then bitch at us for using American based protocols, was wearing us down..... CC revolver

Thanks. Yeah it's a Model 442, at first I didn't care the two tone. But when you're aiming it, the front silver sight gives a good contrast to the black rear sight.--Predator20 01:53, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

The last two times I was out shooting I didn't bring the 586. I'm going to take it when I take out the 442 to practice. The last time I had it out, I was using finger groove combat grips, they were nice but the gloss finish made it slick and slippery when sweating. I changed them back out to the original target grips that were on it like the picture on my user page shows. It's a bit heavy especially compared to the airweight. My 586 is a no dash model so it was made in the early 80s, it has a much better trigger in DA.--Predator20 02:35, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

S&W 640

I like all the S&W J frames. I own a Model 49 Bodyguard, but I've always liked the Centennial design as well. Personally I consider the differences between the Centennial and Bodyguard is six of one and a half a dozen of another. I personally prefer the all steel frames myself. They stand up to heavier usage. I don't find the extra elevenish ounces (give or take a few ounces) to be all that difficult. I've worn my Model 49 in an ankle holster for twelve - fifteen hours at a time and I survived. But the lightweight and scandium models are well made. I'm just older and I'm not as crazy about all the polymer and lightweight alloys that are now all the rage. Though I do like my Glock 19 and Glock 26. Which makes me a hypocrite I suppose.

The .357 magnum J frames are a little bigger than the 38 Specials, but they do give you more flexibiity in terms of loads. I own a Colt Lawman Mk III .357 magnum snubbie just because a .357 magnum snubbie is "cool", but I usually fire 38 specials in it. The .357 magnum in one of the J frames is an experience when shooting it and it's really fun in the scandium models. They've come a long ways with the .38 Special and it will get the job done. Forget all the keyboard commandoes and their endless arguments. A snubbie is a "Oh God" gun. You go for it when the situation requires you pray to god and empty your cylinder as fast as possible at the threat. Yes there might be a time when you will have to use your CCW more methodically, but it's intended as a last ditch close range weapon. The .38 Sepcial will still work.

However there is nothing wrong with the .357 load. I like it and it is very effective. So as I've said in the past look at your requirements and go with it. Hope this helped.I'm not Clint Smith, but I try.--Jcordell 13:19, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

xxxxxx

No problem. Yeah I've noticed that I've been getting alot of questions about revolvers as well. I'm glad to help. I was twelve (1980) when I started shooting. I started on my father's S&W Model 65 and his S&W Model 36 (his back-up). Within a couple years I owned a Colt New Frontier in 22LR with a 22 Magnum cylinder and a Colt Trooper Mk III. But by the time I started college I was all about autos. And that's how it went for many years. But about seven years ago I was at a local gunshow and came across a S&W Model 28. The seller was asking $300 and something about that big old revolver caught my fancy. I bought it. It was at that point that I found myself going back to revolvers. As a cop I carry a Glock 19 and have a Glock 26 for off duty and my S&W Model 49 for both off-duty and backup. I own three pistols. That's it. Many more revolvers. I'm not anit-pistol. Heck I would really like to own a nice Masuer C96 Broomhandle, but for the most part six-shooters just catch my fancy.

The summers in my area can be pretty hot. It's difficult to carry a belt gun and make the concealment of it look believeable. So I find myself going with the ankle carry probably six months out of the year. Sometimes in the winter I'll carry my 26 on my belt and my 49 in the ankle holster. No particular reason except that it's kind of fun (only gun guys will understand what I mean here) to walk around with two handguns when off duty. However usually Im content with just one and a reload. As well as my badge and a cell phone. --Jcordell 16:38, 17 October 2010 (UTC) xxxxxxxx

Ugh Georgia summers. I spent the summer of 1987 at Fort Gordon, just outside of Augusta. That was a long, hot, sweaty summer. I arrived back in Idaho in late August. Got off the plane and I was cold. It was in the seventies, but the humidity was probably no more than 30%. Heat, blast furnace heat, cockroaches (real big ones), fire ants, pine trees, sand, swarms of wasps and uniforms either soaking wet with sweat or damp and smelly. That's Georgia as I remember it. I know Georgia has it's sweet spots, but Uncle Sam sure didn't let me see any of those places. --Jcordell 19:12, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

I robot

Well you were right about the i robot page. I didn't realize how many jacked up edits had happened since I left it LOL! People were inserting weird little tidbits all over the place. I am working on fixing it up. MoviePropMaster2008 03:09, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

re:wacko watch II

I think I got him straightened out. I thumb-nailed the images he had on the page, deleted the ones that aren't necessary.--Predator20 00:01, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good, go ahead.--Predator20 02:09, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Stevens Model 67

Nice job on the Stevens Model 67. I added a little bit more info about the company's link to John Browning. Much better picture also. --Jcordell 21:39, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for straightening that out with Jcordell. I'm still trying to get a Stevens branded Savage Model 67. As far as I can tell, only the forearm is different. :) MoviePropMaster2008

Not a biggie or anything but...

Why did you remove the "-2010" from A.J. Cook's page? Given that she's no longer on the show it makes sense to have that. --Crazycrankle 09:18, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

RoboCop trilogy

Thanks for your additions, but please remember to crop the black bars off the screenshots. I'm in the process of uploading some new screenshots to replace the older ones. --Ben41 19:27, 30 June 2011 (CDT)

Re: Jackass 2

Thank you for the nice words. To be honest, your Jackass page gave me the inspiration to make page for the second movie. Please feel free to add some additional images onto the discussion page (like you did with the first movie), whey you will have your DVD back. Mine was borrowed from a friend and I had to give it back yesterday. :( - bozitojugg3rn4ut 14:29, 11 July 2011 (CDT)

Language

Yeah, I'm aware. I'm just not fond of the idea that any twit can come along and effectively get any page's quotes censored just by sticking asterisks in them (he did the same on Hot Fuzz and Ben removed that quote, too). Evil Tim 12:04, 14 July 2011 (CDT)

S&W M27

Sure. I agree with you moving the other photos. It's just that I'm a S&W revolver collector and the 3.5" inch Model 27 is considered one of the most desirable versions to own. It's very hard to find and expensive when you do find one for sale. It's also considered to be the definitve Model 27 by many. I don't know if you know this. If you do then ignore me and if you didn't now you know why I made the change. Thanks for letting me know though. --Jcordell 22:09, 14 July 2011 (CDT)

re:improper images

Yeah it isn't supposed to be used on the Medal of Honor: Rising Sun page since it's a screencap.--Predator20 23:24, 16 July 2011 (CDT)

re:censoring

You can't please everybody and people are bound to be offended. We already censored the main page quotes. I'm not sure if we had a discussion about censoring the pages themselves. We've generally let it be. I guess lets see what the others think. --Predator20 14:42, 17 July 2011 (CDT)

wacko watch

Thank you for that.--Predator20 14:59, 18 July 2011 (CDT)

No prob on blanking them, I protected your user page and talk page. But currently anonymous users can't edit now anyway (a few months back we got spammed real bad, so that ended anonys editing). Not sure what counts as a "new user", but they can't edit your page now. --Predator20 15:14, 18 July 2011 (CDT)

gun image

you asked Predator20 about an M1911A1 image, but I'm completely confused by your query. What is wrong with a pic of a gun in someone's hands on the movie/TV show page? MoviePropMaster2008 15:52, 18 July 2011 (CDT)

Well you are right. We don't use images of guns in anyone's hands as the 'gun image'. Who ever did that did not realize that we have TONS of nice M1911 pics that are IMFDB 'approved'. But by the time I checked, the erroneous link had been fixed, so it looked strange. :) Carry on. MoviePropMaster2008 17:39, 18 July 2011 (CDT)

Criminal Minds

Just wanted to say welcome back and thanks for your help cleaning up the Criminal Minds pages. I only have a handful of other episodes, and could use any more help. --Ben41 (talk) 19:05, 19 April 2013 (EDT)

Season 1 and Season 4 are the main ones I want to work on. Everything else you're welcome to work on. I have three episodes from Season 8 I will be putting up soon. --Ben41 (talk) 03:31, 20 April 2013 (EDT)
Just FYI, I've putting the season and episode number in my screenshot filename so it helps reminds what episode it's from and so it does not overwrite an existing file. For example, for a file from Season 4 Episode 3, I'm starting with "CMS4E03". If you could do this for your future screenshots that would be great. I'll be changing out a few of the screenshots that have more generic filenames. --Ben41 (talk) 01:26, 22 April 2013 (EDT)
Some of the screenshots I sharpened and added some brightness to show off the detail of the firearm. Also, some were taken from flashback sequences when the color grading was changed. --Ben41 (talk) 19:11, 22 April 2013 (EDT)
The SW65 is just another image I found. Season 7 is the one I don't have any other episodes for other than the one already listed. If you want to concentrate on that one, that would be great. Once I'm able to identify all the screenshots that have general filenames, I would like to delete those out. --Ben41 (talk) 21:19, 23 April 2013 (EDT)
Not a problem. I found that image and knew that it had to be downloaded. I'm still around. I've slowed down on the number of pages that I've built. Though I have done a few over the past six months. Added new screencaps. Built the page for Return To Lonesome Dove about a month ago. But I mostly just work on adding links, correcting incorrect gun id's and so on. --Jcordell (talk) 12:58, 21 April 2013 (EDT)
Thanks for helping out. It's just that I've always kept the handgun images at 300px and the rifles and submachine guns would vary depending on the size. Also, for Season 5's episode, I checked CBS.com and the title they have is "A Rite of Passage". --Ben41 (talk) 00:13, 17 July 2013 (EDT)
Generally, IMDB is correct, but they are also moderated by users and are susceptible to errors from time to time. The final call would be the official site or the title on the DVD release. --Ben41 (talk) 19:33, 17 July 2013 (EDT)
Go ahead and make the changes. If there are any significant weapons missing (other than the usual handguns) from the pages, go ahead and add them. --Ben41 (talk) 19:44, 17 July 2013 (EDT)

Screencapping

Have you tried VLC or Fast Stone Image viewer to screencap? These are the best ones I've found to use. --Ben41 (talk) 06:52, 24 April 2013 (EDT)

RE: Addition of Additional Variants of firearms

You are absolutely right: I did not really try to do anything bad - on the contrary , I only wanted to extend and complement the articles to which you add additional examples of firearms . But surely say : " Good intentions pave the road to hell " ... As for the fact that these samples are not visible firearms use in films , television programs and video games - so much for them and added that anyone could figure out what a particular variant of a firearm is used in a particular product from the above list. Thank you for having decided to first write to me and understand my intentions - I really appreciate this step you take . I promise next time to add additional examples of firearms only if I see its use in film, television program or video game - well, or if anyone need help in determining the type of weapon , as in this topic: [1], and it is much better to learn the rules, standards and principles of this wonderful site :) Andrey Karchikyan (talk) 23:51, 25 October 2013 (MSK)

Robert Downey Jr

I made an exception because it's preferable to have his best known role up front. --Ben41 (talk) 18:11, 12 November 2013 (EST)

Criminal Minds Season 3

Unfortunately, I don't have that particular episode from Season 3 to find that weapon. --Ben41 (talk) 18:12, 12 November 2013 (EST)

RoboCop 3

Feel free to clean up the wording on Robocop 3. If there are any missing screenshots, go ahead and put them in there and I will replace them in time. There will be some inconsistencies in the thumbnail sizes because that's the only way I can see the resolution change. --Ben41 (talk) 13:54, 12 December 2013 (EST)

Law & Order SVU

I'm going to be doing the preliminary setup for the pages. However, I would like your help on finding more firearm entries that are not already included on the main page already. I'll start with Season 1 and then you can go through and add any more entries that are not included as the pages are set up. Currently, all the seasons are available on Hulu plus, but I only have this for only 5 more days, so I will try and get all the pages remaining up tonight, so you can go ahead and add what you think is missing. Thanks again! --Ben41 (talk) 20:08, 5 March 2014 (EST)

Your new screenshot seems to be less pixelated. However, according to this article, the entire series is currently undergoing a widescreen remastering. I don't want know how much you want to work on changing the screenshots until then. If you wanted to divide by season, that would be okay. --Ben41 (talk) 21:38, 11 July 2014 (EDT)

Another user actually started splitting the pages, but I undid it since he didn't do anything else and I didn't want to trade one incomplete page for eight incomplete pages. I did preserve his work on the talk pages, however. --Funkychinaman (talk) 01:17, 12 July 2014 (EDT)
When I split Law & Order I cleared the main page and created a page for each season while I went along. Personally, I felt a little less pressure. I suppose as long as you commit to the series, it doesn't really matter. I just didn't like how that other guy just created eight incompleted pages and expected someone else to do all the work. --Funkychinaman (talk) 00:03, 13 July 2014 (EDT)
You can make a sandbox if you want, do it on the discussion page, or just do a WIP page. It's twenty-something episodes per season, no one expects it to go up overnight. As for writeups, I'm in no position to criticize anyone about length, after the multiple paragraphs I wrote for each season of M:I. For that, I realized that 85% of the data found online came from one extensive compendium, so I just went on ebay and picked up a copy for ten bucks. I'm sure someone has written something similar for X-Files, although I'm certain there wasn't nearly as much behind-the-scenes drama. As for episode numbers, for L&O and M:I, I went by air order via IMDB, since each episode was a stand-alone, but for Firefly, I went by intended order, since it was a serial and inexplicably aired out of order. I think X-Files is a mix of stand-alones and serial arcs, so I'll let you decide. Check out the X-files wiki, maybe go by what they have. --Funkychinaman (talk) 22:49, 24 July 2014 (EDT)
I'd recommend against summarizing too much plotwise, maybe just make note of a few arcs. As for episode numbers, just go with the accepted standard. --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:10, 25 July 2014 (EDT)

X-Files (round two)

Thanks dude. One other thing:

Error creating thumbnail: File missing

I decided I was getting kinda tired of posting pictures of both the Colt 715 and the Olympic Arms M16A1-style AR-15 (whatever it's called) for every movie/TV show where we know we have an Olympic Arms K4B, so I made this from the two pics. I know MPM frowns upon it, but it will save us a lot of trouble. -MT2008 (talk) 22:09, 28 September 2014 (EDT)

I don't think there are any Olympic Arms with the A1E1-style receiver and the thinner A1 barrel, either in real life or in Tom Felcan's inventory. That rifle you documented in S3E20 is most likely one of the Colt AR-15 SP1s seen in other episodes of the show. I could be wrong, but the trend seems to be that the armorer brought lots of AR-15 SP1s (with A2 hand guards) and Olympic Arms K4Bs to the set to use as M16A2 stand-ins whenever the episode called for U.S. military personnel. -MT2008 (talk) 22:50, 28 September 2014 (EDT)
Like the additional screencaps for Season 4. Do you have any more from S4E18? During the scene where the military is at the UFO crash site, there are some additional weapons that are not screencapped on the page. There's a jeep that drives by and which is fitted with a Browning M2HB (fitted with one of those weird flash hiders, like in Stargate: SG1) and a Minigun, and then there's a soldier holding a Daewoo K3 Paratrooper standing in front of the tent where the UFO wreckage is being analyzed. Unfortunately, you may have difficulty getting quality screencaps because the camera is in motion during the entire scene and it takes place at night, but it's worth trying. -MT2008 (talk) 09:50, 11 October 2014 (EDT)
That looks awesome! It's definitely complete now. I am happy to see we have such thorough pages for the first four seasons of this show. The X-Files has been several years overdue for a major update, and I am glad to see it is finally happening. Are you working on Season 5 now? I'll be happy to help out if you want (and time permitting; I am very busy at work right now). -MT2008 (talk) 11:38, 25 October 2014 (EDT)
Quick FYI: Those short-barreled AR carbines that you see in Season 5 aren't the same ones from Season 1. If you look closely, you'll see that they have flattop receivers with the carry handle left on. Based on what I know about Tom Felcan's inventory, my guess would be that they are those Olympic Arms K3B equivalents of the Mark 18 Mod 0 that have also been seen in Romeo Must Die, The Outer Limits, and Jeremiah. -MT2008 (talk) 21:17, 2 November 2014 (EST)
Wow, man, you are far more diligent than I am at this stuff! Good deal. Some quick comments:
  • (1.) The long-barreled Norinco Type 84 is actually a Type 84 Target, not a Type 84 Match. The Target has the 18" barrel, while the Match has a 21" barrel, and the version seen in both Season 4 and 5 of The X-Files definitely has an 18" barrel. Unfortunately, MPM only has a picture of a Type 84 Target with a fixed stock, not a folding stock (like the version on the show). Also, the Type 84 Target is the only type of Type 84 you see on the show - my observation from watching lots of stuff filmed in Vancouver is that Felcan seems to stocked only Target variants up until about 1998 or 1999, and then they cut down the barrels to standard-length (around the time that Harsh Realm aired, the Type 84 Targets stopped appearing in BC productions).
  • (2.) Not sure about the sniper rifle - I'm looking at pages of other TV shows filmed in Vancouver and trying to see if Felcan has put that gun in anything else and someone IDed it correctly. But I haven't seen that rifle yet in any of the (zillions) of sci-fi shows and low-budget movies I have watched that are filmed in BC.
  • (3.) Many of my old images were taken from several fan sites that have screencaps of each episode (those sites may not even exist anymore, for all I know). Otherwise, I have just used Netflix screencaps, same as you.
  • (4.) The second "unknown pistol" is just a Beretta 92F. It's the same guy in the red mask who is dual-wielding Berettas in other screencaps. As for the pistol below it, my guess would be that it's a S&W 5946.
  • (5.) The MAC-10 that is in the crate has a very small receiver - I would guess it's more likely a Cobray M11/9.
  • (6.) The Cadillac-Gage Commando armored car that you see in S5E19 is probably the same one that later appeared in Dark Angel (TV Series), and on that show, we IDed the machine guns as Browning M1919s.
Hope all of this helps. -MT2008 (talk) 22:00, 10 November 2014 (EST)
Wait a minute, I'm being an idiot - isn't that sniper rifle from the season finale just the Remington 700 with Choate Super Sniper Stock (the same one that everyone on IMFDB used to think was a Savage 10FP for some reason)? That rifle is in a ton of BC productions - see here for what I believe is only a partial list. -MT2008 (talk) 22:09, 10 November 2014 (EST)
Sorry for my late reply. No opposition whatsoever to that change. -MT2008 (talk) 15:29, 23 November 2014 (EST)

X-Files Tres

Yeah, you'll notice a lot of changes in weaponry from Season 6 onwards due to the change in filming location from Vancouver to L.A. (most obvious being the use of the modified Ruger rifles from Space: Above and Beyond in Season 7). I think it was either Hand Prop Room or Gibbons Ltd (or maybe both) who started supplying the guns after the move to the U.S., so you will want to use what you know about those companies for reference. (i.e. Gibbons was the main armory on JAG, so see what guns have appeared on that show if you need to cross-check.) I'm a bit less familiar with what weaponry appeared on the show after Season 6 because that was when I stopped watching, so you will know as much as I do. But I will keep trying to help out regardless. -MT2008 (talk) 16:03, 23 November 2014 (EST)

Yeah, figuring out guns on shows filmed in British Columbia is easy because Felcan is literally the only armory there, so every production filmed in BC uses their weapons (unless they source out of province, but that seems to be pretty rare). Whereas a production filmed in L.A. in the 1990s would have had six armories to choose from (Stembridge, Ellis Mercantile, Cinema Weaponry, Gibbons Ltd, Hand Prop Room, and ISS), so it's considerably more difficult to know where the guns came from without doing a lot of cross-referencing for unique/customized weapons. In the case of The X-Files post-Season 5, I suspect HPR were the main armorers at least in Season 7 because I know that they built those Rugers that were used in Space: Above and Beyond.
As for watching the show: I stopped watching after Season 6 because the show was going downhill, story-wise, by that point. A lot of die-hard X-Files fans agree that Season 6 was where things started going south, which is pretty funny because most sci-fi shows get worse when production moves from California to Canada, rather than the other way around. When The X-Files went up on Netflix in 2013, I did re-watch almost all of the "Mythology" episodes, including the episodes from Season 7, 8, and 9 that I had not seen during their original air dates. But my knowledge of the show - and thus, the guns - generally gets more scatter-shot after Season 6. -MT2008 (talk) 17:03, 23 November 2014 (EST)
BTW, be on the lookout for an H&K Mark 23 in S6E13. Not terribly noteworthy today, but extremely uncommon in a TV show in 1999, when the episode aired. (Soldier of Fortune, Inc. apparently had one, but the page for the show doesn't mention which episodes/air date, and I have never seen that show myself). -MT2008 (talk) 17:18, 23 November 2014 (EST)
Another quick heads-up: The rifles that you IDed as Colt Model 723s are just more XM177 mock-ups based on AR carbines that have A2-style receivers. The last rifle in that same entry is also another M16A2. -MT2008 (talk) 00:01, 26 November 2014 (EST)

T-101

The actual justification, which I dislike because it's a dumb retcon, is that mold 101 is the T-800 tissue mold which looks like Arnie. I just like calling him T-101 because it sounds better and as I recall T2 the Arcade Game called the player characters T-101 and T-102 so it's vaguely official. :P It's kind of useful when discussing multiple films because if he's T-800 in 1, T-101 in 2 and T-850 in 3 it's always clear which one you're talking about. Evil Tim (talk) 03:41, 28 December 2014 (EST)

Well, when I started thinking that, there wasn't a T3, so I figured maybe it was the same kind of non-sequential numbering that militaries use all the time (like the successor to the M60 tank being the M1), so maybe Skynet had just renumbered the endos at some point. I have a certain tendency to regard anything in T3 as unreliable because I absolutely hated it, mind. The whole scenario strikes me as something nobody actually thought about, it manages to contradict itself right at the start while introducing John where he says he lives off the grid but he rides a motorbike...so, um, he has no registered plates or license and isn't in jail how now? And then you get the whole thing where Skynet is the virus trying to infect everything so they'll release Skynet to fix the virus and ow my brain Evil Tim (talk) 00:12, 29 December 2014 (EST)

Timecop Custom Assault Pistol

As I was telling Ben41 on his talk page, I think that we should actually give these guns a name, because (1.) they were not made for Timecop, so it's an inaccurate description, and (2.) "Timecop Custom Assault Pistol" is too awkward to keep writing out. This is an instance where we have the chance to be creative and give them our own name. How about "Felcan MP" (for the long-barreled variant) and "Felcan MP-C" (for the short-barreled variant)? I'm open to suggestions. -MT2008 (talk) 13:19, 16 January 2015 (EST)

Actually, at the same time that those guns were in The X-Files, they also appeared in an episode of The Highlander (S2E05, "An Eye for an Eye"). In The Highlander, it is described as a MAC-10, interestingly enough. I do suspect that the gun uses a MAC-10 open bolt, or an open bolt modeled from a MAC-10. The mags are clearly Uzi mags in 9mm.
Sure, I will hold off on changing the page. -MT2008 (talk) 13:33, 16 January 2015 (EST)
When I think about it, you guys are right that it's entirely plausible the guns were made for Timecop but used on The X-Files and The Highlander before Timecop was released to theaters. The only reason I'm unsure - there are two versions of the gun, and only one version appears in Timecop. Which is why I think it's possible that they were made for another movie that we haven't seen yet.
If you guys are not strongly opposed, I would really prefer we use "Felcan MP" and "Felcan MP-C" to distinguish them, or something similar. As you and I agree, we need to have a way to distinguish the two versions of the gun, and the name, "Timecop Custom Assault Pistol" won't let us do so. -MT2008 (talk) 14:02, 16 January 2015 (EST)
Did some more research. They appeared in Part 2 of the pilot for Cobra (TV Series), which aired 9/23/1993, so I think that is their earliest documented appearance. You can watch the end of it here and you'll see both versions of the Felcan MP. -MT2008 (talk) 14:17, 16 January 2015 (EST)

X-Files Final

I'm very happy to see all nine seasons are now (nearly) complete. I commend you for undertaking such an enormous and ambitious project, and I am happy that one of my all-time favorite TV shows is now on IMFDB in its entirety.

On another note, I found out yesterday that there is a very good chance that I will be going to Vancouver for work in the near future (either March or April). It's not a done deal yet, but if it happens, I'm going to try my best to see if I can get in touch with Tom Felcan and his team. Hopefully, I'll be able to settle the mystery on those weird-looking machine pistols, and some of the other guns we've seen in BC productions. -MT2008 (talk) 11:52, 27 January 2015 (EST)

Take a look at the pages for Another Stakeout and the Knight's Armament Revolver Rifle and you will see what I mean. I am also going to be updating the pages for our mystery machine pistols in a bit. -MT2008 (talk) 11:50, 2 February 2015 (EST)

X-Files categorization

My usual method is just going to IMDB and looking at the company credits page, and for the X-Files, they list Ten Thirteen Productions and X-F Productions, both of which are listed as US companies. A lot of shows shoot in BC, but I don't think a lot of them would qualify as Canadian productions. --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:49, 13 February 2015 (EST)

Well, that IS the info for "_____ Produced/Filmed" now. The filmed part is rather misleading, and you'll notice that new categories are simply "_____ Produced". We changed it out for some of the smaller categories, like "Moroccan Produced," but it'd be a huge pain to change it for Canada. --Funkychinaman (talk) 18:32, 13 February 2015 (EST)
I was thinking you could put it in a writeup. There's certainly a lot you can put in a season writeup for the X-Files, like how it started out in Canada but moved back to LA after the actors made a stink about it, how Cigarette Smoking Man started out as a glorified extra, how Gillian Anderson's pregnancy changed the course of the show, the Lone Gunmen and their spinoff, etc. There was certainly enough coverage of the behind the scenes stuff, and if you're a fan, you probably already know, or would enjoy researching. --Funkychinaman (talk) 22:30, 13 February 2015 (EST)
One or two paragraphs maybe? And you're probably the best qualified to do it at this point, you just watched every episode. --Funkychinaman (talk) 22:55, 13 February 2015 (EST)
I don't think you should list the first five seasons as Canadian. Is it more Canadian than say, BSG, which never shot a single frame outside of BC and is lousy with Canadian TV regulars, and yet doesn't carry the Canadian produced label? In a perfect world, we'd have a "_____ Produced" and "____ Filmed" categories, but we don't. Like I said, make note of it in the your writeups. (And if I may point out, if you look up the wikipedia article for X-Files, the first sentence is "The X-Files is an American science fiction horror drama television series created by Chris Carter." (Emphasis mine.) --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:23, 15 February 2015 (EST)
You can always split up the writeups amongst the X-Files fans out there, like MT. --Funkychinaman (talk) 19:33, 15 February 2015 (EST)
I saw, looks good. --Funkychinaman (talk) 21:47, 16 February 2015 (EST)

RE:

Hey, man, sorry I have been gone for so long. Just started a new job and have been busy with training. And you are welcome on all the help. The X-Files is one of those shows that defined my childhood and its appeal has endured for me into adulthood (I can watch it now and still appreciate it, often in ways that I couldn't have appreciated it as a kid), so I was happy to help you do the show justice on this site. Plus, the show is a big part of the reason I became a fan of SIG-Sauer pistols. :)

To reply to your other question: I would avoid having a category for production location on the main page. Instead, put "Canadian Produced/Filmed" on the individual pages for the first five seasons only. -MT2008 (talk) 12:50, 15 February 2015 (EST)

BTW: I may also soon have some info on those fake MP5Ks that appeared on The X-Files. I'm just waiting for my source to get back to me at their convenience. I wouldn't be surprised if they were built by the same gunsmith who made the M91s. -MT2008 (talk) 12:51, 15 February 2015 (EST)
