The AK-74 and variants have been seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:
Please note that some movies and TV shows feature the Norinco Type 84, which is a Chinese AK variant that looks similar to the AK-74 but is chambered in 5.56x45mm. Do not confuse these with the genuine mil-spec AK-74.

AKS-74U
Contrary to popular belief, the AKS-74U is not exactly a «chopped» AKS-74. This weapon was designed during a contest for a submachine gun (a type of weapon earlier neglected by the Soviet army and police forces) during the late seventies. Furthermore, its original and primary purpose was a PDW for vehicle crews. Its use by Afghanistan-era air troops and later adoption as the standard police weapon answered to a lack of a submachine gun in Soviet firearms nomenclature.
Thus, AKS-74U is a purpose-built weapon based on AK-74. Its telling features are its distinct muzzle flash hider (designed to lower the loud report and flash stemming from the short barrel, also making sure that the shortened gas system works reliably), the short foregrip, big-eared flip rear sight, lowered front sight and pivoting upper receiver. AKS-74U clones, collectively named Krinkov (a name never used by Russians themselves) may differ visually in details like front sight and foregrip length and shape, together with differences in construction. No converted AK-74 can be rightfully named AKS-74U.

Kbk wz. 1988 Tantal
The karabinek wzór 1988 (Carbine Model 1988) Tantal is a 5.45mm assault rifle designed and produced in Poland in the late 1980s.
The Polish KbK Wz. 88 "Tantal" is considered by many to be one of the most unique small calibre Kalashnikov rifles made outside of Russia. A primary consideration in its' design was the three-round burst option, as well as the ability to fire rifle grenades. The 5.45mm version has had several PIP upgrades since its' initial production, but the lack of funds and membership into NATO halted its' further production. About a year ago it was reported that all units (mostly elite and para) using the "Tantal" were reissued 7.62mm weapons because of a lack of ammo for the 5.45mm rifle. The 5.56x45mm NATO version of this rifle, known as "Beryl," had not yet been placed into service.

Skbk wz. 1989 Onyks
Poland made its own version of the AKS-74U known as the wz. 89 Onyks which is based on the wz. 88 Tantal. The Onyks differs from the AKS-74U most notably in the design of the folding stock, rear sights mounted on the front trunion rather than dust cover and a different muzzle device. The 5.45 mm subkarabinek wz. 1989 Onyks is a lightweight Polish carbine variant of the 5.45 mm wz. 1988 Tantal assault rifle, also based on the AK(S)-74U Work on the weapon began in 1989 at the Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy state research institute in the city of Radom. The weapon’s technical specifications were confirmed that same year. It was not until 1990 that production approval was given for the first prototypes, evaluated the following year in a series of military qualification tests resulting in an order for an initial pre-production batch in 1993, to be manufactured at the Łucznik Arms Factory in Radom.
