Hey, for whats its worth I wanted you to know that TheHeartbreakKid15 is back to his editing of gun page links. I looked at his user page and saw that you and other admins had already told him multiple times to knock it off. I have undone a number of his edits on the Manufacturer pages. I see them as not redundant but actually detrimental because if a page is moved you cant simply edit the redirect, you have to go and edit the actually code that this guy is adding. --Zackmann08 11:29, 6 February 2012 (CST)

Band of Brothers

Thanks for inserting information onto the page such as characters, situations, episodes, etc. It looks much more cleaned up now! Speakeasy804 19:45, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

U571

Thanks for the screencaps. Just a reminder. Be sure to identify who is on screen and what they are doing in the shot. Also identify which actors used which guns. That is really important information for the individual actor's pages. MoviePropMaster2008 06:31, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Excellent! Great work! Thanks! MoviePropMaster2008 08:35, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi

Hey, Ben,

Great work on all the screencaps and contributions you've so far, but I must insist that you try to follow format:

 • (1.) Always include gun pictures along with the screencaps from the movie.
 • (2.) Always make sure you link to the gun pages.

If you want to save time, you can just go to a page for another movie in which the same gun appears, and copy and paste the code from that page to save time. If I'm doing a page for a movie that has a SIG-Sauer P226, for example, I will just go to a page that has the same gun (like Air Force One), copy the entry, and then change the code as needed. It's a good habit to get into, and it's important for this site's completeness and cohesion.

Thanks, and again, great work so far. -MT2008 19:36, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Hey Ben

I was wondering if i could redo your page for Rules of Engagement. I dont want to step on any toes, but with your permission, I'll make it look real pretty. :) -Winchester

If you want redo the descriptions, that's fine. I just pretty much did the screen caps. Ben41 14 Oct 2009

Your screencaps are too big

Gorgeous work on the Dark Knight Blu-ray pics .... BUT ... 1925 pixels across?!?!?! 925KB sized files?!?!?!?! These MUST be shrunk down in that the original size won't be looked at full resolution anyway and they are taking up way too much space. Have you noticed how long it takes for these images to be loaded when clicking on the page? I know that some of our veteran members (and mods) sometimes upload gigantic images, but I think yours are now the biggest on the site. Please make them smaller to allow quick loading of your page. Thanks. MoviePropMaster2008 14:08, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

I'll make sure the rest of the pics I'll upload are smaller in size, but I think the reason it's still loading slow is because the majority of the pics are still PNG's. I'm trying to replace them, but there's a lot of pictures. --Ben41 03:38, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Robocop

Hey, great job at improving the screencaps on the Robocop page. They look great now! -Gunman69 08:10, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, still a work in progress, but I really wanted to up the quality of the pics. --Ben41 08:29, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

New Heat screencaps

Were those taken from a Blu-ray? --Predator20 15:53, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

No, these caps are from the Special Edition DVD. --Ben41 01:01, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Ok, did you mess with the color? The reason I ask is the new pic you uploaded of DeNiro seems to have more grain in the pic.

A quick one I took

It's not the same exact frame but close. My DVD is the '05 Two-Disc Special Edition. Also when someone sends you a message on your talk page, you reply back on theirs. --Predator20 02:53, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

I use the VLC too. I never tried saving them to PNG first then the JPEG. I may try that. Also I uploaded a new version of my cap. It's the same frame now. The first one I took was a little bit after. Some of the shots you took look better than others. The shot of Pacino and Studi in elevator looks great, more color.--Predator20 03:25, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

The Unit

Please tell me you're going to replace all of the older pics with your newer more awesome pics. That will motivate me to get more screen used guns for the page. :) MoviePropMaster2008 07:42, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

.PNG Images

I have always used .PNGs in lieu of .Jpegs because, while they are bigger, they are of superior quality, especially when it comes to thumbnails. Therefore, identifying guns is easier as the images are clearer. Since the rules, standards and principles insists on space conserving .jpeg images, the Carlito's way page will probably be the last one I do using .PNGs. I decided this yesterday before you sent me this and just didn't think it was worth announcing, and the only reason the Carlito's Way images are .PNGs is because I was halfway done with doing them all when I picked up my work yesterday. Needless to say I'll conform to the rules this time, so long as the quality of the screencaps doesn't suffer too much. --Yournamehere 22:50, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

The Problem with the Pirates pages

Thanks for asking ahead of time :) But I hate those pages. There is little we can identify other than 'flintlock pistol, 'flintlock musket', 'flintlock blunderbuss', etc. It's crap. We can offer no other information other than what is completely obvious to the audience. Gee. Jack Sparrow uses a flintlock pistol. So what? They didn't need US to tell them that. And if we cannot identify what make, model of pistol (which is hard since so many are custom), then it is a complete waste of IMFDB server space to have the page. I'm going to go on a deletion spree for all the lame pages with no screencaps on them. It's a part of the rules and standards, that bad pages are NOT better than no pages at all. Lame pages, especially lots of them, makes us look bad. Good thing you're trying to fix a bunch of the bad existing pages. I wish more members did that rather than create endless NEW pages that are lame. MoviePropMaster2008 02:45, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Aliens

I wasn't sure if you were going to be adding anymore pics to the page. I added 3 screencaps, I have a few others that can be added too if you're finshed. I had already capped the film the same time I uploaded the behind the scenes images. Which was at the end of Nov. but I didn't get off my ass and upload them so you beat me to it. Which is no big deal.--Predator20 16:44, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Stargate

I've noticed that the screencaps that you upload are much brighter/clearer than mine -are you using Blu Ray? --AdAstra2009 05:22, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

The Interpreter

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Henry US Survival .22 LR with M68 Aimpoint red dot scope

The rifle you see in this picture is the exact same one that was used in The Interpreter. I got the picture from the web site of Weapons Specialists, Ltd. in New York, which is the company that supplied the weapons to the production. So it's a safe bet that this exact gun is the one from the movie. You can see it's the same configuration and everything. This same gun was also used in Lord of War (another movie for which Weapons Specialists supplied guns).

Also, the AK rifle in the movie is an AK-47, not an AKM (and most likely, it's a converted Poly Tech Legend). -MT2008 21:22, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

White Hunter Black Heart

I'm into double rifles. Hope you weren't offended by my post on the discussion page, but it's fairly common for folks to mistake a double rifle for a double shotgun.I used to until a few years ago whne I set out to educate myself.Unfortunately it's all book learning. Personally I would love to own a double rifle - even a German double. But the German rifles start at $10,000 and go up to $20,000. The British doubles start at approximately $70,000 and go as high as $250,000. *Sigh*

I have the soul of a snob and the bank account of a working class joe. Oh well. The page looks good by the way.--Jcordell 06:38, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Last Samurai

WOW! Great work on the replacement screenshots!!!!!! are those Blu-ray? Stunning! Now I need to secretly ask you to fix some of the popular (but poorly screencapped) pages ;) nudge nudge wink wink ..... MoviePropMaster2008 07:41, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

BTW, per IMFDB rules, you can replace existing screenshots with your much superior widescreenshots. Some of the pages you've worked on, you seem hesitant to replace the crappier pics. By ALL MEANS replace the crappier pics! Great screenshots are a wonder to behold. Like Eraser, i hope you can replace the full screen caps. No one can complain. The rules say that Widescreen are preferable to fullscreen. :) Also, do you check the forum? I was hoping to PM you there. Send me a PM there so I can reply to it. :) MoviePropMaster2008 02:56, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Extreme Prejudice

Thanks for redoing those caps. Gunmaster45 uploaded them for me before I knew I how to do them myself. Also I had figured Atwater's pistol was a Smith & Wesson 39, not a Commander. But I couldn't tell enough from my cap. Since you redid it, it's clear. I really need to start messing with the colors on the VLC payer like you talked about. I pretty sure there is only one dvd version of Extreme Prejudice. Also there is an M60 used by the cartel in the final shootout that I missed. I think they are killed by Atwater. --Predator20 16:22, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Burn Notice

Your Burn Notice stuff is looking fantastic! Great screen caps and information, keep it up! --ManiacallyChallenged

Yeah, you've really filled out the page. It was a mess before you started working on it, but now it looks a lot better. I was actually planning to do some work on it for a while, but your screencaps are much higher-quality than mine, and so far, it's coming out great anyway. -MT2008 19:17, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi and thanx...

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it and from now on will do screencaps with VLC... :) But if you're referring to the Universal Soldier: Regeneration screencaps, I am not the one responsible for those ones... I'm just now gonna upload my screencaps and remove those ols trailer caps... Warejaws 13:21, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

HD and MM quotes

You forgot, so I added it.

HD: You're gonna get shot up here.

MM: Well you're gonna get smashed down there!

HD: Hey man I'd rather get smashed than shot.

MM: Not me!

Another one of my favorites, not sure if it would work on the main page.--Predator20 05:04, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi, you need to categorize your pic uploads

Great job, but when you upload screenshots, you need to put in the Category in double brackets and then put in 'screenshots'. Check out how other screenshots are 'categorized'. Thanks. MoviePropMaster2008 08:28, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

RE Screencaps

Yeah the program I have been using is not the best, and I could not change aspect ratio settings for some reason. I just downloaded the VLC player that you wrote about on your main page. I will try using it and if it works out fine then Ill probably go back and rescreencap pages Ive don in wide screen. --Mauser 21:28, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Marked for Death

I'm glad to see someone is doing a page for this movie!

That being said, Hatcher's 1911 in the movie is not an SVI (I don't think those even existed when the movie was made). We had a topic about this in the forum, but the 1911 in the movie is a Federal Ordnance PSP-07. It's mentioned in the credits for the movie. Check out the forum topic here:

http://www.imfdb.org/forum/showthread.php?t=853

Also, the H&K automatic weapon used by Hatcher is not an HK53 (in fact, it's not even a .223-caliber weapon, if you look at the magazine). It is called the "HK51K", and it's a custom G3 conversion done by Bill Fleming, a Class III manufacturer.

Enhanced image request

Could you enhance this image from Dirty Harry. The reason I ask is to better see the magnum markings. This one guy keeps changing it to a Model 57 a 41 magnum. It looks like it reads 44 magnum on the barrel. But an enhanced image would make it read better. --Predator20 19:22, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. I have the newer box set too. But you usually have a way of making them appear a little bit better. --Predator20 14:36, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

The Eiger Sanction

I'v made a couple changes. Hemlock is actually using a Smith & Wesson Model 40 and not a Model 49 Bodyguard. Also the henchman is using hwat appears to be a snubby Smith & Wesson Model 10 instead of the Smith & Wesson Model 15 snubbie. If you look closely at the screencap you will notice no adjustable sights. The revolver appears to have fixed or duty sights which would make it the Model 10. Also I went ahead and listed the weapons used by Hemlock on Clint Eastwood 's page. And also showed on the respective firearms pages. But nevertheless it's good work. --Jcordell 00:49, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Great work on Waterworld

I hope you finish the page. :) There are many dressed up guns in that movie. Alas, most of the weapons were changed back after the movie was over, but I can see what I can get from Syd Stembridge regarding what guns still exist that appeared in that movie. Thanks MoviePropMaster2008 01:12, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

RE

I actually created disambiguation pages for CSI and Delta Force to make page navigation easier. I will try to make as many such pages I can, since unlike Wikipedia, page navigation needs a lot of improvement because sometimes even if we type the proper page name in the search box, we get the result not found.--SB2296 10:41, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Re: Actor's Pages

Thanks for the heads up, Ben. I agree that the pages look much better in the table format, but I've seen several different examples on different pages in terms of what column is which, so I figured I'd leave them in the basic format. However, it seems that now we've reached a more streamlined pattern (such as on the page you alerted me to), so I'll be sure to follow that from then on. On a side note, all of your pages look great, the screencaps are very sharp! Nice work! --Speakeasy804 00:45, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

New pages

Hey, Ben41! :) You're an awesome screencapper and page fixer, but, please, don't create multiple new pages with no screen caps. At least have some of the graphics ready to roll BEFORE the page is rolled out. Creating new pages with no screenshots or graphics inspires other (less capable page makers) to create scads of new empty pages with only gun listings. Thanks. MoviePropMaster2008 00:42, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

BTW I have 100% confidence that you will populate the page with great caps, but the worry is that others will do the first part and not the second part. thanks.

We Were Soldiers

I love your HD screencaps. And I know that you have the discipline to put in an appropriate number of screencaps. Heck you can replace even the ones I put in. LOL. It's all about the quality of the pics and the page. I'm just trying to get rid of the full screen caps which I dislike. Anyway, I know you're busy so I started working on the page - it being one of the most VIEWED pages on IMFDB. Did you notice I added more SCREEN USED hero guns to the page? ;) I can probably get more in the future when I have time. I just have to check with Mike Papac as to what guns were used on the production (but that takes time and checking records, etc.). MoviePropMaster2008 00:54, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the help on WWS

Your screencaps look awesome. A little favor though. We're trying to keep the screencaps from between 7-10 per section. I was going to cull the XM16 page, but since you did an awesome job of replacing the full screen shots, I was hoping you would do the honors. A big criticism of the page when it was done earlier was the overuse of screenshots (the XM16 page had 33 screencaps at one point). Thanks again for your great work on the page. MoviePropMaster2008 06:33, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

User: 99.12.124.133

I sent him a final warning, if he doesn't listen this time, he's gone for good. By the way, excellent work replacing screencaps all over IMFDB with much better ones, you have improved many pages on here alot. Keep up the good work, and let me know if you need anything.--Alienqueen11 23:54, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Virtuosity

Hey, Ben, good work on Virtuosity, but I have a question. Do you have screenshots of the following characters/weapons from the movie:

 • Denzel Washington gets an H&K USP from a transport guard and uses it later in the movie.
 • A bunch of the police officers in the movie also use the Beretta 92F, especially at the club.
 • One of the terrorists in the flashback sequence is armed with an M16-type rifle, I think an M16A1 with A2-style hand guards (can't tell).

If you don't mind grabbing these screencaps, I'd appreciate it. It would complete the page. Gracias. -MT2008 16:22, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! Also, I think the subguns used in the movie may be Walther MPL or MPK, not Franchi LF-57s (I started a discussion about it). -MT2008 16:33, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Some Last of the Mohicans guns

Hey there. Glad to see how much work you've done on the page. :) I had some pics of some of the background muskets (used by civilians and indians) that were 'rescued' from the production by one of the gunsmiths I knew who worked on the picture. As you know, the vast majority of the guns were destroyed during the filming (the stuntmen pretty much used their muskets as clubs in most of the fight scenes) and over 400 Brown Bess muskets were destroyed. I have a pic of two background guns. Is there any screenshot which may have these in them? I know they were for background people. One is a modern repro of a common commercial flintlock firearm of the time period, the other is known as a trade gun, i.e. a lesser quality flintlock that had less parts and craftsmanship, developed specifically for trade with the Indians (i.e. they let the 'locals' get the more cheaply made muskets). Anyway, just wondering if you thought we should add this to your excellent page.

Actually those were real firing muskets (modern replicas) of civilian muskets, so they were issued to the Colonists volunteers to represent 'private purchase' weapons of the civilians. The Trade muskets were issued to allied Indians to the British Army as they were the 18th century equivalent of 'lend lease' to friendly Indian tribes. They were indeed fired. All non-firing guns were rubber. The reason why so many guns were destroyed was that after 2 weeks of filming a lot of the actors and stuntmen and background extras were really banging on each other with the guns as clubs during the many days of 'hand to hand fighting' filming. I suspect the filmmakers expected this since the production purchased the muskets, they didn't rent the majority of them, except for select hero guns. Thanks. So the info on the movie page isn't quite right. :) MoviePropMaster2008 19:05, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Re: 24 - Season 5

I'm still working on 24 - Season 5. Unlike most users I don't submit or save my work until it's completely done but I'll just save the first 8 episodes now that your asking. I've been stuck on Kalashnikov variants in the first 4 episodes that's why i haven't finished yet. - HKFan 14:02, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Those black sidebars only occur during the first 3 episodes. I think those are caused by the DVDs since I am using VLC Media Player. As you could see I've decided to finish up Season 5 since someone already have been posting low res screencaps and not leaving much detail like I did in Season 7. Can you help identifying the AK Variants when I'm done with episode 4. I think if I do one episode per day so I could get much more done. I can't make the caps any brighter since they've already been sitting in My Pictures for 3 months. But I look forward to doing seasons 4, 6, and 8. - HKFan 22:26, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

RoboCop

Do you plan on adding any more caps to it? Emil Antonowsky (Paul McCrane) uses the Ithca 37 to shoot Murphy in the warehouse and some shots of him could be added. I have the dvd and can add them, but if you're still working on the page. I'll let you take care of it.--Predator20 00:02, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

The film page template

I noticed that you changed the template for The American. That template has an interesting history. I've never used it because I was one of the early ones who didn't like that formatting change. Some users created a template that had the poster line BELOW the summary line amongst other slight changes. There was no consensus. I think just one person came up with it and used it. But I always did it the way that Bunni did it. The majority of the site was Bunni's way. But ever since one of the Mods made their own 'user's template' people have started changing pages to conform with it, which I never agreed with. Just letting you know, as a mod, I've always been changing them back to the original style from when the site first began. I still think the poster should be aligned top most and to the upper rightmost corner of the page to start with, which means the poster image line should be first on the page, just because that's the way 90% of the site was when it first started and I thought it looked best. Just thought I'd give you some of the interesting background history, (and why most of the pages which I work on are changed to that way, moreso if I did all the work on the page, which I did NOT on The American which is someone else's page.  :) MoviePropMaster2008 05:35, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Since you started the page and put all the screencaps up, I defer to your preference.  :) Which is what I said previously, but on my pages I prefer the old style. :) MoviePropMaster2008 06:43, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Jesse Ventura

I'm not one to trust Wikipedia. Ventura might have served in Vietnam, but is said not to have saw actual combat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Ventura#Navy_career Otherwise I would have included him when I wrote up the Richard Chaves page. I was wanting to do more research into Ventura's military career. Ventura is a veteran though.

Also before I build an actor page I search their name before I build the article, take Melanie Griffith she also used a SIG P230 in Season 3 of Miami Vice.--Predator20 14:08, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

cont...

I thinking the wording Chaves' page should be: "Best known for his role as Poncho in Predator, Richard served in the Army's 101st Airborne Division, he is one of two actors in the film that served in the Vietnam War. The other being Jesse Ventura who served in the Navy's UDT."

Alt wording could be "Best known for his role as Poncho in Predator, Richard served in the Army's 101st Airborne Division, he is one of two actors in the film that are Vietnam veterans. The other being Jesse Ventura who served in the Navy's UDT." Or if you can think of better wording, go for it. --Predator20 14:36, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Miami Vice vs 24

I'm going to wrap up season four of Vice probably next week. Then I'll get started on season five. When that gets finished we'll be able to do an accurate count on the total number of different guns used. You can go ahead do a count on 24 if you want and see where it's at. Also don't just add the number of guns per season together. A Beretta 92FS counts once not eight times. If we did that 24 would be at 234 and Miami Vice would be at 195 currently with a season and a half to go. I think Vice was at 100+ different guns before the page was split into seasons. --Predator20 01:39, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Re: Reupping a-team image

It´ll have to wait till Friday. I´ll get it done then.--Milkovich 07:32, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay. Was away for longer then I expected. The image has been replaced. --Milkovich 15:50, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Cherry 2000

You're doing great work but you're doing too many pages at one time. I clicked on one of the images you uploaded for the film a few weeks back. It was Ben Johnson holding a SAA (I'll always remember him from The Wild Bunch), I checked the paged today it wasn't on there. I went through your uploads and found it along with another that had Brion James with a Winchester 1897. I put them on the page. You may want check your other films and see if any images are missing. --Predator20 00:01, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

The Kingdom

Any specific reason why you reverted the close-up of Sykes with the 91? And the one of the MP5? Your over-brightened (and sorta yellow-ish) shots aren't exactly better. --Milkovich 12:19, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

I personally cant see the point of using your 91 pic over the new one. It´s more detailed and you get to see the stock fully. Though in retrospective reverting the MP5 picture was a good idea indeed. And the whole .png to .jpg thing isn´t necessary for me. I own Photoshop, so I can regulate the quality of my .jpg´s fully (which is also the reason why all my uploads until yesterday were so big, I only started to use lower compression then)..--Milkovich 05:49, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

VLC never made it darker for me. Are you sure that you have the video effects off? It might also simply be your screen. The brightness differs heavily between different models (there´s a massive gap between my laptop and my gaming rig in terms of contrast). --Milkovich 05:58, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Good Work

You're doing good work. Remember to link the movies to the guns or is that link the guns to the movies. Nevertheless keep it up. Thanks for the help.--Jcordell 02:49, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Re: Using Photoshop

Sounds overly complicated to me. I take the caps, work up the quality a bit, resize and save with quality compression 10. It works well enough. Though I am open to any kind of advice. --Milkovich 06:02, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

I was planning on redoing those, but lost interest that very same day. You can redo them if you want. --Milkovich 06:18, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Jesse Stone

Yes but I have no definite timetable. If you want to do it go for it. My ego won't be bruised. On the other hand you suck for updating Fort Apache, The Bronx. LOL. I've been planning on doing an upgrade, but I was going to borrow my father's DVD and I'm not going to be seeing him until October. But perhaps I'll see if I can get some screencaps to add at that time. As you probably noticed I've been tinkering with that page over the past couple years. It needs some work. Good job. And you are welcome. Also right back at you. --Jcordell 23:46, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Okay. Not a problem. And yes I've read that there is another Stone movie coming out this year. I believe they've already filmed it. --Jcordell 23:52, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Admin

Hey, Ben, the thought just occurred to me...you are WAY overdue for an Administrator position offer. Have any of the other Admins offered you the position yet? You've been doing a lot of work on this site for a long time, so I think you've earned it. If you want the job, I will gladly email Bunni and ask him to promote you. -MT2008 01:31, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Guess we're getting promoted.

I've been invited as well. I put your name in, but it looks like somebody beat me to it. Congrats.--Jcordell 02:18, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing the page I created. Sorry that it wasn't up to scratch. I was just surprised that no-one else had made the page in the three years since the movies release. Appreciate it. (Gunmaster12)--Gunmaster12 04:03, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

New RoboCop pics

Well, I'm a good bit late here, but I want to congratulate you personally on putting on the upgraded caps for RoboCop, especially the newest Blu-Ray caps. It's my all time favorite film and it looks bitchin' in Blu-Ray from the pics I've seen (on here and elsewhere). Anyway, it looks great - Excellent job on it, as well as the others you've done, man. Glad to have every gun on there now. StanTheMan 00:07, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

- Rather than make a new section, I'll just post here. I've seen RoboCop again recently and since you have gotten images for it before, I'd like to ask if you could help add a bit more to the page. I've been having problems getting screencaps off DVDs lately, hence why I'm asking you, plus you have Blu-Ray. Anyway, it turns out that not every single gun is on the page; one of the 'new' images I'd like to try and grab is the where Lewis and Murphy pull up to the Steel Mill following the van chase - there's a rack in the car with a Colt Commando/CAR-15-style rifle on it. It's not really a good shot of the gun but should be included (I'll be adding the section in a minute). Another one is right after that in the mill, when Murphy confronts Emil and the other crook. Right before he says his 'Dead or Alive..' line, he shoots the other crook who grabs his 870 shotgun. I'd like to get a couple shots of him when he gets shot by Murphy, as there's a blooper where the gun changes from a standard 870 Police Folder (which he picks up) to one with an extended mag tube when he gets shot. Again a minor thing but I would like to make a note of it. Anyway, that's pretty much it, I can understand if you're busy and all so take your time and let me if you're able to do them or whatever, I'd appreciate it and I think the page would benefit that much more. Thanks for your time. StanTheMan 20:37, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, on second thought, the gun on the rack might be a shotgun. Well, anyway, I guess that's it. A Blu-Ray cap might help the ID out, but maybe not - again, it's not shown that well. StanTheMan 03:42, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Very nice, man. Thanks. StanTheMan 01:52, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

invasion

Yeah, thanks for the heads up but I am still working on it. Kinda hard when I'm actually in the middle of several productions at the same time. The aggregate time I have available to screencap and post on IMFDB is about 20 minutes a DAY currently. I should have done more but I still have a ton of unfixed screenshots that I have to crop and upload. Thanks for the message, though I would still like the opportunity to finish it :) MoviePropMaster2008 16:35, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

The Score

I checked out The Score and noticed the screencaps are brightened and sharpened on the page. Excellent work, they look great! - Gunmaster45

Film Title & __TOC__<br clear="all">

For some reason when you use Film Title & __TOC__<br clear="all"> it will put the weapons list at the bottom of the movie poster. But if you type out "The following guns were used in the film" and use __TOC__<br clear="all"> it doesn't. While I like using Film Title because it saves on typing, but when you have to use clear=all also it doesn't work to your advantage. --Predator20 14:18, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

It must have to with having written text or an image code above clear=all. --Predator20 21:38, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Nikita Disambiguation

Putting the off shoot shows on the same lines is wrong. Those are 'footnotes' to the original entries, since they are NOT technically disambiguations since they have different titles. MoviePropMaster2008 01:52, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Lost

Please stop changing the images on the Lost page. Your images are of vastly inferior quality and it is doing a disservice to this web site. Your pictures have colors that are washed out and bleeding and look far worse than the originals. I took great care in selecting high-quality images to place on this site and I do not appreciate your ruining them with inferior versions.Axeman 21:26, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Actually I think yours are superior. You've adjusted the darkness so the weapons are easier to see and you cropped the black bars which is one of the things that are requested for imfdb. Also I don't see any of the colors bleeding.I'd replace the images. --Jcordell 23:42, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Hawaii Five-0

Sorry, the pictures looked a little small and since 600 has become the site's standard I went ahead and changed them. I noticed they looked blurry and a little awkward in 600px but decided to leave it. If you want to keep it 400px I'm fine with that and will leave the page alone. -Anonymous

Gunfight at the O.K. Corral

RE: A-Team 2010

Well, I sorta knew this was comin'. The source where I got those screencaps for the movie is this: http://www.discshop.fi/shop/ds_produkt.php?lang=&id=75676&lang=fi&subsite=bluray&&ref= <-- That is a website in finland, which concentrates on films, games, music, etc. I ordered the BLU-Ray about 1½ weeks ago, and it was released on October 29th in Finland. I assure you, it is NOT a bootleg of any kind. But I see your point, and if removing those caps (for now) is for the greater good, I have no objection. We wouldn't wanna face legal consequences. But hey, can you at least save the screencaps? I mean just delete them from the A-Team page, not the whole site? 'Cos I spend almost 4 hours taking and uploading those screencaps. That way, I could put them on the site on the 11th (or was it 14th) day, when the DVD is supposed to come out.

PS. I was also bewildered when I noticed that a film had come out in Finland looooong before it comes out in the US. (NOTE: I will also put this on MoviePropMaster2008's talks page) --Warejaws 01:07, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

RE:RE:A-Team 2010

Hi Ben, I was wondering that now when the DVD for The A-Team has appeared in the US, could I upload/or add (the rest of) my screencaps to the page?? Oh, and do I have to replace my previous screencaps with new ones (since they were uploaded before the official release date), or can I just revert the page to the latest version by me? --Warejaws 12:17, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Ok, thank you. I'll update the page soon. --Warejaws 14:15, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

The Way of War

Great work! but actually, IMFDB rules states that IMDB is the final say on U.S. release titles :) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1133995/combined So it is "The Way of War" not "Way of War". I can't figure out why the Poster says that. Only the Australian and French Video releases changed the named to "Way of War", but I would still conform to the U.S. Release standard. :) Just giving you a heads up :) MoviePropMaster2008 01:50, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

You're right. WTF? Amazon has it listed differently than IMDB. WTF? I don't know then. We always go with the American distribution title and usually IMDB is our bible on that. This is the first time I've seen this happen. MoviePropMaster2008 02:29, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Where in the hell did you find the DVD of Hickey & Boggs? I've seen that I can buy one on Amazon for like $85.00. I am in awe. --Jcordell 04:48, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Ahhhhh. I see. Didn't think of that. Too bad. I would like to own the DVD, but not for $85.00. Well good work. --Jcordell 05:11, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes I read that on imdb and amazon. Another reason why I wouldn't pay that much. --Jcordell 05:17, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

As of November 2011 Amazon is now selling the movie as an "On Demand" DVD. You order it and Amazon burns a DVD and ships it. It costs extra ($20.00 in contrast to the standard $10-$12 dollars), but I've been wanting this movie so I just ordered it. Paid the extra for overnight shipping (it's my birthday today so call it a gift to myself). I'll add more screencaps to the page over the next few days. --Jcordell 20:37, 3 February 2012 (CST)

Matt and Jcordell are both okay with an Archer page. MPM still has to be convinced. Also I was talking to Milkovich about breaking up Stargate SG-1 into seasons. What are your thoughts? Two other pages I think that could also be split is Burn Notice and The Unit. --Predator20 00:22, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

RE. Screencapping

Well, as you once suggested, I'm using VLC player to screencap. I don't do much with them, I just cap them as jpgs and upload them. BTW, I've been meaning to ask, how do you/what do you do to tweak/edit your caps? Or do you do anything to them at all? 'Cause my caps are sometimes darker than average, and I don't know what to use to solve the problem... (Tried GIMP but waaaaay too many gadgets for me...) --Warejaws 07:36, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Okay. I'll download the Fast Stone and give it a shot. And thanks for the advice. --Warejaws 07:46, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Spitting up TV pages

Even Vice which has a large amount of different guns used, has quite a bit of overlap of the same ones used each seasons. I would say about 30 to 40%. Also I did a quick look at the weapons list on The Unit it has around 120 guns plus another 10 miscellaneous weapons. Mail Call has 98 including repeats (it probably only has 60 to 70 actual different guns). So The Unit should actually be listed at number 2. (It was at #1 for while before Mail Call which wasn't done by a true count anyway.) I'm going to look into doing an actual count for Mail Call, 24, Vice and compare them to the other large TV pages that aren't split. --Predator20 20:46, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Screencaptures and watermarks

This is weird legal/etiquette territory. Since no one (outside of the movie studios) who posts screen captures from DVDs on the internet owns the content in any way, is the rule about watermarked images merely about the "work" of capturing a screen-shot? It's my understanding that review sites are "allowed" by the studios to post captures because reviews help the studios with sales, not because review sites have a legal right to do so. -- Blokhed 2/14/11

Are you going to tackle Magnum P.I.?

I've been playing with the idea of renting all the seasons from Netflix and screencapping, but then I lie down and it passes. Are you feeling brave? --Jcordell 00:43, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Okay. As soon as I get off the couch. Oh wait I'm feeling energetic. Better sit here for awhile. --Jcordell 00:48, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

S&W Revolving Rifle

Hi Ben, I couldn't answer you before as for some reason all the 'edit' functions vanished off my screen.

I'm afraid I don't have the knowledge or tools to do screencaps to do films at this time. I thought a small page on the weapon would be good as a)someone may wish to do 'Son of Paleface' or other films with that ususual weapon in and b)Once people see and can identify the weapon they may do pages on other films they've seen it in.

I've learned a tremendous amount from this site as I really can't identify most weapons, fashions, songs, automobiles, hairstyles after 1975. (i.e. I can watch a film and if it's well done identify what part of which decade the film is meant to depict; from 1975 on it's all one big blur). As I'm still learning about your site it I've noticed you can not have 100% of things, for example the Single Action Army Revolver or Winchester 1873 or 1894 (I haven't yet learned to diffrentiate between the two) would have literally hundreds if not thousands of films with the those weapons. I thought some unusual weapon that to my knowledge is fairly rare in film would fit in and perhaps encourage the others to do pieces of the film or actor (I guess Roy Rogers would have a page with the same three weapons I mentioned) for the edification of your fan base.

Thank you for your help.Foofbun 03:47, 5 March 2011 (MSK)

Upload Errors

Are all those issues sorted now? We were working out a lot of bugs on the new server earlier. BTW thanks for saving me from MoviePropMaster's Nuke on Risky Business XD bunni 07:27, 5 March 2011 (MSK)

That log in bug is really weird, we're looking into it. I'm aware of the non-centered ad and don't plan on bringing the side ads back at the moment - I'm trying to find less intrusive advertising to support the site. bunni 08:35, 5 March 2011 (MSK)
I will look into the banner issue. What browser and skin are you running? I'd like to try and recreate it. I have some more adjustments to be made to the featured article setup on the front page, including adjusting the quotes section. This is on my schedule for tomorrow. The recent articles and discussions aren't particularly efficient pieces of code and were dramatically slowing down the server response times on the front page. I'm looking for another way to implement that functionality. bunni 23:10, 8 March 2011 (MSK)
OK, I've found the fix for all the login/upload/image/etc errors the site is having but it will involve a few hours of server downtime and reconfiguration. I've successfully completed the job on the site's test server. I will have to wait until my next day off work so I have this work tentatively scheduled for early Wednesday morning. bunni 21:45, 20 March 2011 (CDT)
This is fixed for me now, check it out and let me know if you have any issues. (: bunni 15:41, 23 March 2011 (CDT)

Trivia

Give it a shot and we can see the response. bunni 06:44, 7 March 2011 (MSK)

RE: Hackers

I have no idea, I think it's just some type of server error. But if you click on it twice to enlarge it to full-size, you'll see that it shows up. It's only in thumbnail and preview modes that the black screen appears. -MT2008 08:08, 9 March 2011 (MSK)

Uploading over an image error

OK, I think I figured this one out - try uploading over an image and seeing if you are able to overwrite and if the page recognizes the new image. bunni 23:06, 15 March 2011

SPACEart

Do you know the story with this user? They've gone from uploading images of replicas with their watermark in them to posting direct links to their products sale pages. This is veering into spam IMO. bunni 12:08, 21 March 2011 (CDT)

I don't think he needs to be banned but I told him to remove the links to the product pages and to move his images onto the discussion pages unless they are actual screen used props like we did for The Golden Closet on pages like Scarface#Beretta_Model_81. I don't think we want to showcase reproductions of gun models on a movie's page unless they are particularly noteworthy or have some connection to the original production. bunni 22:06, 23 March 2011 (CDT)

Recent articles

We're moving to solid state hard drives this week. That should provide the database speed increase needed to bring back the recent articles lists. (: bunni 22:10, 29 March 2011 (CDT)

The speeds have still been painfully slow for me but we're putting the entire site behind a CDN (content distribution network) this weekend which I'm hoping will improve load times to the point that we can bring back the recent articles. bunni 15:17, 17 June 2011 (CDT)

Um, why are you deleting redirects?

Sure some are lame, but most are what people would type into the search function. The nomenclature of putting "The" first is standard when typing in a title name for a search. IMFDB puts the "the" last for alphabetizing reasons, but the redirects are there so that when people put in 'likely' search parameters, they'll still end up at the right page. Ah yes. Thanks for the info :D MoviePropMaster2008 02:55, 8 April 2011 (CDT)

Just to explain what's going on here, since I haven't been approved on the forums yet:

Burt has apparently decided that he should remove all uses of the term "RPG" to refer to anything but the RPG-X series of weapons made by Russia, since apparently the term is "incorrect" if it's used to mean anything but it's original Russian meaning; this includes removing references to projectiles as RPGs, something the US military (and English-speaking militaries in general) would disagree with him on. Obviously, he's wrong; I've quoted a BAE Systems press release ("The LROD system provides lightweight, low-cost RPG protection that is easily adapted to virtually any armored vehicle") and the Historical Dictionary of the US Army both using RPG to mean a general class of weapons, but he's apparently decided that everyone, including professionals who manufacture and operate weaponry, is wrong and he's right on what the proper term is. Saying "Type 69 RPG" is about as incorrect as saying "M4 carbine" in a caption; it might not be needed, but that's no reason to delete it for being wrong. Then again, given the pages this guy hangs around and the general attitude it looks like he's good old PersonOfInterest. Isn't he banned? Evil Tim 04:57, 14 April 2011 (CDT)

I've already explained how saying "Type 69 RPG" is not the same as saying "M4 carbine". If Evil Tim just wants to disregard any and all points I make, then I'll just have to go over his head. Yes, I'll wait for official moderator/admin approval. MT2008 is already leaning towards my position. It should be noted that I have multiple points and arguments supporting my position, and all Evil Tim has to say is "well everyone's doing it so it must be ok." He doesn't actually refute any of my arguments. And no I'm not PersonOfInterest. --BurtReynoldsMoustache 17:46, 14 April 2011 (CDT)

Oh, ok

I looked it up to make sure it wasn't some obscene acronym I wasn't aware of, and the way I read it made it seem like ESU was a bigger unit that SWAT and HAZMAT teams belonged to, so since the team wasn't HAZMAT it would still be correct to say it was SWAT. So it's actually that ESU guys do any of the roles as the situation demands? Evil Tim 03:17, 17 April 2011 (CDT)

 • Oh. Well, now I know. Half the battle, and all. Evil Tim 02:18, 18 April 2011 (CDT)

Re: 2011 Topic: Type 69: RPG or no RPG?

I've been following their edit war on this subject, and have already locked the RPG-7 page to administrator-only edit access. I hoped that would settle the dispute, and if those two are still bitching about it, they need to grow up and move on. So far as I can tell, they're just bickering like little children over a dead issue. Orca1 9904 01:37, 20 April 2011 (CDT)

Everyone hates chris

Don't do that. That page was NOT the "everyone hates chris' page that YOU made. It was ANOTHER one that was mispelled and thus deserves to be deleted. Your original one is still there. Don't undo what I've done. Thanks. MoviePropMaster2008 01:47, 20 April 2011 (CDT)

Thanks, we can't keep a 'dummy page' for every possible incarnation of a spelling of a title. Then we would have "everyone hates Chris" "Everyone hate CHris" "everyone HATES chris" etc. etc. You get the drift. I would rather keep the CORRECT imdb title page as the placeholder (and locked), and if anyone creates a new page by typing in the title wrong (which happens for titles other than ones we've banned), then we delete it and warn the new user (or ban them if they become problem children). MoviePropMaster2008 02:01, 20 April 2011 (CDT)
It's usally started in low caps, I think now that I protected it and redirected it to the page with the correct spelling. It may be okay. --Predator20 19:26, 21 April 2011 (CDT)

Ok, just one issue with that though:

Under "Film" heading for "Taurus PT941 (Stainless)," what order is the table actually in? Is it supposed to be sorted by year, oldest to newest? I ask because when I fixed GE M134 Minigun's tables I went with what was already on the page (newest to oldest) and if that's not right I'll have to turn those the other way around too. Also, is "name / character / notation / date" the right format for videogame entries? Evil Tim 06:34, 20 April 2011 (CDT)

TheCartel_Screen_2

Can you delete this picture, I didn't realize there was another picture with same name somewhat.(The difference is there is a space between "The" and "Cartel" in the other picture. I noticed your edit there, but I really can't see the big spaces you're talking about: this is how I see Amanda Tapping and this is Sam Phillips. Using Firefox, monitor resolution 1920 x 1080, fullscreen, theme set to Vector. Evil Tim 05:55, 30 April 2011 (CDT)

I undid Mr. Wolf's edit because there are a large number of links and redirects directed toward that page that go to specific weapons listed on it. Ruckus

I prefer not to wait and hope a newbie user decides to learn how to properly use a wiki. I also left him a message about how each weapon section should be formatted, but in the meantime I didn't want to leave a page looking completely trashy in hopes that he'd decided to learn how to do it properly. I've never cared for the "wait for someone else to get it right" strategy because most of the time, they don't. The Video Games section is a testament to that.--PistolJunkie 19:25, 7 May 2011 (CDT)

Thank you for your note on my disc page. I am still learning the format and editing, but I had to get some sleep. When I logged back in, to start working on it again, I found you and PistolJunkie had done some of the editing for me, which is now a kick in my butt to get it done that much quicker. --Mark in tx 21:37, 7 May 2011 (CDT)

That appears to have been a result of the page not loading completely on my end. I'm sorry it happened, but there's no reason to be snappy. In the meantime, I'll be cleaning up the Ruckus page as best as I can with the screencaps and information provided.--PistolJunkie 20:14, 7 May 2011 (CDT)

Spambot

I'm really not sure what this thing's trying to do: it's obviously someone who knows what they're doing (IP address changing every time (and the range includes Austria, Canada, France, Finland, Greece, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Saudi Arabia (!), South Korea, UK, and US so far, suggesting it's a botnet), vandalising random pages, edit reasons made using a password generator to stop us blocking based on those) but it seems to just be posting random thankyous to the previous poster, which suggests it's designed to be used on a forum. So it's someone technically competant but totally stupid. :s Evil Tim 05:57, 11 May 2011 (CDT)

Hi, Ben! The Soldier of Fortune: Payback page was full of PNGs. I have changed them to JPGs but instead of "nuke"-ing them I just move those PNGs to the Talk:Soldier of Fortune: Payback page. Although those are only small files, I think they can be deleted now. Just wanted to tell you this.
And one more thing: Could you please protect my user page from unregistered users? Thanks in advance. bozitojugg3rn4ut 06:38, 12 May 2011 (CDT)

Hi. You have deleted the "Fallout 2" video game page recently because it was full of PNG's and texts copied exactly from the official Fallout Wikia (The Vault). Starship Troopers

Just curious what your source was for Starship Troopers expending the most blanks of any film. :) MoviePropMaster2008 04:32, 29 May 2011 (CDT)

Thanks Ben41! :) Wow. I don't even REMEMBER that forum thread! I was at Fremont when they filmed the Cyberdyne sequences of T2. I know that Arnold fired 30,000 of 7.62 rounds all by himself with that Minigun.  :) But in that very thread you linked to, didn't Steve K. point out that We Were Soldiers fired at least Half a million rounds that he knows of? That would Knock Starship Troopers off the top. It's funny. I was there for a week during some of the location shooting (well that's where nearly all of the firing took place) and I recall that most of the actors had dummy guns. I think I only counted about 12 guys who were rocking and rolling at any one time but that was just a mental note I made during the damned heat wave! I still have some stuff from the film including the Morita but it's all messed up. I still haven't fixed it up enough to photograph it for IMFDB :( Also back to Steve's comment, the only reason why that 'stat' mentioned by others sounded strange was that I was sure that there are quite a few full blown WAR movies that would easily come close to that number.  :) Thanks again for the reply :) As for background stories on movie sets, I sure wish I could write out some of the stuff I see! hahahahaha, but then I don't want to get into trouble! :) Remember, on the internet, it's forever! :D best regards MoviePropMaster2008 18:04, 29 May 2011 (CDT)

How do I ask users to help me identify guns?

I've completed most of the weapons for the Gangster's Paradise: Jerusalema page, but I have one photo which is an assortment of weapons that I can't name. How do I contact several users or put out a message asking for experts to visit the page and try and ID the guns? Or do I have to just leave the page until someone is interested enough to contribute?

I would ask in the forum, but my account hasn't been approved. Thank you. 2deal2 16:53, 8 June 2011 (BST)

RE:Battle LA

I respectfully disagree, the game received universal scorn from reviewers, right? I figure as long we don't say things like "This game sucked ass," it would be fine. But it is your page, so I'm not going to get too ornery over it. BeardedHoplite 14:23, 13 June 2011 (CDT)

Not trying to argue with your decision or anything

But I take it from the change to Shinji Mikami that Category:Director is only for movie directors? The guy does have director credits on IMDB. Evil Tim 01:34, 14 June 2011 (CDT)

Oh, I just figured since he was credited as director or producer for all of the games listed that was enough to put him in category: director. Could we have a category: game director or something for people like this? I can think of Hideki Kamiya as another example of a guy who has multiple director credits for games we have articles for (three Resident Evil games and Devil May Cry). Evil Tim 01:49, 14 June 2011 (CDT)
Really? I'd just see it as a way to tie together a group of creators. Granted there's no point doing it now since AFAIK there's only one game director with his own category, but if we had several it would make sense to have a category to put them all in so they're not just floating around on nothing. Anyway, I'll stop bothering you with hypotheticals and let you get back to work on your article, I know how annoying it is trying to have a conversation and upload at the same time. Evil Tim 02:14, 14 June 2011 (CDT)

Battle: Los Angeles

Are you planning to revamp the Battle: Los Angeles page? I have the Blu-Ray and was planning to do it. -MT2008 20:42, 14 June 2011 (CDT)

The page as it is now lacks many of the best and clearest views of the weapons. If you're going to do the page, the only thing I ask is that you actually watch the movie from beginning to end and make sure you get all the best shots of the weapons (which is what I am in the process of doing now). If you're not going to do that, then I'd prefer you let me finish the page instead. -MT2008 09:03, 15 June 2011 (CDT)

Could you delete all the useless revisions of this file? For some reason the file view wouldn't update for ages and I thought uploading the larger version wasn't working, but it turns out it was. Evil Tim 05:30, 18 June 2011 (CDT)

Street Fighter

Okay, will do. Good job. Unfortunately I lost the DVD, never found it, and was never able to finish it. I suspected it had been stolen by a relative's acquaintance (if you have to steal a 10+ year old movie that would cost you $5, if even that much, in a bargain bin, you must be in a bad place), but was never able to prove it. I've been intending to get another one, but kept forgetting. Spartan198 15:42, 26 June 2011 (CDT)

Nah, it's okay. And that's what I thought too when I first saw the trailer. Pretty epic. Hope this doesn't bomb in the box office. And does it really take place in the eighties? --Warejaws 06:43, 29 June 2011 (CDT)

Robo 3

Thanks for adding the extras screen on Robo 3 (Which I know is like, two), heh. Also good job on categorizing too. I would like to request you get a couple of the regular 'XM-177s' used in the movie, there are several. I'd screencap it myself, but unlike before when I was having troubles with my DVD drive and players... I just don't have that DVD. Some would ask me what kind of diehard Robo fan am I, but I would ask what they thought of R3.. hehe. ANYWAY, good job. I hope you like my work on the other two Robo pages. StanTheMan 16:50, 30 June 2011 (CDT)

Yeah, I hadn't made screencaps in some time and forgot it leaves the black bars there. I certainly will keep note of it in the future. I'd go back through and clean them up, but seems you're gonna do that, so... Well, again I'll just remember for next time. StanTheMan 20:00, 30 June 2011 (CDT)
EDIT - I'm actually going through my Robo caps and cleaning them up. I'll upload the better pics in just a bit. EDIT again - Done, I hope. StanTheMan 20:08, 30 June 2011 (CDT)

Do you mind if I replace some of your screenshots with some of mine from my Blu-Ray copy? Also, do you adjust your Blu-Ray screenshots through VLC or just leave them the way they are?- Kenny99 20:37, 1 July 2011 (CDT)

I've replaced the Tremors screenshot of Edgar's body so you can go ahead and compare the two images yourself. - Kenny99 21:25, 1 July 2011 (CDT)

Helmet covers

There is a big freakin difference between describing a helmet cover as "BACKWARDS" and "INSIDE OUT". hahahaha LOL. For one, you can't mount the covers backwards (though you 'could' on the old Kevlar "fritz" helmets, I've done it plenty of times, especially on a stretched out helmet cover that is broken in). But I don't buy the seam arguement. I've seen MICH helmet covers with raised seams and flat seams. Also the Desert Marpat pattern fades in the sun, but more importantly in the context of the movie, DUST coats the helmet cover making it seem solid versus patterned. I've seen this tons of times. Right now I still don't see the compelling evidence to justify the 'quote' :D Happy 4th, MoviePropMaster2008 01:11, 5 July 2011 (CDT)

Fixing Gun Links

Can you please give me an example of when I haven't done what you said? As that's what the purpose of my edits are. If I've missed any on pages that I've done I'd be grateful if you pointed them out. TheHeartbreakKid15 09:05, 7 July 2011 (CDT)

New Robo2 screencaps

I take it they're from the Blu-Ray? They look good, but many of them seem kinda dark. Any way to deal with that perhaps? StanTheMan 18:44, 7 July 2011 (CDT)

Multiple people with the same name

Since you seem to be the man regarding actor pages, I figure this is best pitched to you: what do we do when we have multiple actors with the same name? I ask because I've found the "Korean officer" in Stealth is a named character ("Colonel Yune") played by a guy called Jason Lee, but it's not this guy. So what do we call this new guy's page? Evil Tim 16:20, 11 July 2011 (CDT)

Probably the right idea, but I don't think (IX) is the best way: IMDB's list includes everyone who's ever been called Jason Lee in a movie credit; writers, producers, etc. We'd probably be best off calling ours Jason Lee (II) since we're only listing the ones we know have handled firearms. Evil Tim 04:42, 12 July 2011 (CDT)

Westerns

So you've decided it's time to add to the number of westerns that are represented here on imfdb I'm assuming. --Jcordell 23:34, 11 July 2011 (CDT)

It's really not a big deal to me. If you want to re-do Rooster Cogburn go for it. If not I'll get to it. Right now I've gotten sidetracked with 21 Jump Street. My wife loved that show when it was airing back in the eighties and she has gone and purchased the series on DVD. That page needs some work. I started on it yesterday. I also plan to do Coming Home. That one will be simple. Just the M16A1 and an SKS are featured in the movie. One of the problems I'm not encountering is that the last of the video rental stores in my town has closed. I don't stream video right now (though we plan on getting it when our Direct TV contract runs out in December)so I'm reduced to Redbox and buying the DVD's of movies that I like. Bite The Bullet was the last of the westerns that I wanted to add to my collection. Well that's not true. I do plan on getting a copy of Eastwood's Hang 'Em High. Well wait I just remembered another one. It would be great if either you or I made a page for Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid starring James Coburn. --Jcordell 10:57, 12 July 2011 (CDT)

Language

Last I checked we don't censor quotes containing swearwords (there's quite a few pages with them) and I seem to recall some discussion about that a while back that concluded we shouldn't. Has that changed recently? Evil Tim 11:24, 14 July 2011 (CDT)

Well, I personally would be against censoring quotes, and I do think the site leans towards that view. However, I'm sure Ben probably just removed it to keep you and the other guy from editing it over and over and filling up the logs, not because it has a dirty word. The quote isn't absolutely necessary anyway. StanTheMan 12:00, 14 July 2011 (CDT)
We do allow it in discussions, remember Oliveira and his tendency to swear at least four times per paragraph? Evil Tim 02:38, 15 July 2011 (CDT)
I just rather object to the idea that a random newbie can sail in, throw asterisks into a quote on a page and get it deleted; after all, nobody has ever said "fstarck" in a movie. It's not strictly necessary to have movie quotes in captions, I'd agree (though such is true of any quote, cursing or no), but if they're already on a page I don't think we should accept people making the quotes wrong by sticking random symbols in them. I don't disagree with all forms of censorship (in fact, I think we should put a rule in saying we don't allow NC-17 or equivalent rated movies on the basis someone will try it sooner or later) but it makes the wiki look childish to have people quoted saying "f*ck." Evil Tim 06:32, 15 July 2011 (CDT)
The guy has done it again. Frankly, by my view, the rule is about restricting language on article descriptions and personal comments, not movie quotes, and it states to keep cursing to a minimum, not to eliminate it or censor it entirely. And quite frankly, the way that's he doing it, arbitrarily and on random pages, is very disconcerting and I would say almost vandal-like, as if he's trying intentionally to be annoying (which in my case, is working). I've left him a message that he should stop and consult an admin before doing any more of those edits, but I wanted to let you know personally. I might speak to some other admins about this also. I'd really like to get this settled because I'm starting to see it as a bit of a problem. StanTheMan 14:14, 17 July 2011 (CDT)

I did.

I put it on the talk page of the user who made the edit: "Lupara" is a term for a configuration of shotgun (ie, sawed-off) not a type, so changing "unknown shotgun" to "lupara shotgun" is a bit like changing "unknown rifle" to "carbine rifle;" we still don't know. More to the point, the shotguns in the movie aren't sawed off, they've still got long barrels and full stocks. Evil Tim 02:55, 18 July 2011 (CDT)

Type 56

I'll get to it. Been busy and I have not seen my source for those weapons in MONTHS. BTW, will you ever do a Blu Ray Version of Terminator 3: rise of the machines? I don't think the Ruger Mini 14 entry for that movie is correct. But I can't tell exactly what from the shot. MoviePropMaster2008 21:06, 18 July 2011 (CDT)

Ben help

Hey there buddy. Help me out man. At this particular point in time I am unable to get a copy of the old Walter Matthau movie The Laughing Policeman (1973). Could you screen-cap that page? I don't believe there are more than four or five firearms that make an appearance in the movie. Most notably a Smith & Wesson Model 15 Snub , M16A1 and an M3 / M3A1 "Grease Gun". You know how I am about the old movies. I've already added the movie to Matthau's page as well as the above named firearms. Oh and I recall the smg used by the bad guy to be a Grease gun, but I might be wrong. It's been a couple years. Thanks. --Jcordell 09:16, 29 July 2011 (CDT)

thanks again. --Jcordell 18:48, 29 July 2011 (CDT)

Great. thanks. Like I said it has been a couple years. Now I know why I thought/remember it was a grease gun. The ventilated sleeve was removed from the barrel. Spammers

One thing you might want to note when deleting spam pages; I think spam-sites can still get links counted from our recent changes page, so it might be a good idea to blank the links out from the "reason for deletion" otherwise it could still be helping them out (and thus encouraging them to keep doing it). Re: The Mechanik

Thank you for the nice words. I usually create/edit video game pages only, so I'm really unexperienced with IDing stuff in movies. (It's much easier in video games.) And with the pic of the headshot I just wanted to show the lame reticule the rifle has. But you were right, it was too gory and unnecessary. - bozitojugg3rn4ut 05:05, 6 August 2011 (CDT)

Do you mind if I start overriding your screenshots from the DVD with that from the Blu-Ray copy (excluding screenshots already replaced by you)? - Kenny99 12:51, 11 August 2011 (CDT)

Heaven's Burning

Hi Ben,

Just so you know, I have finished the page for 'Heaven's Burning'. I added some guns that you had not included (e.g. the High Standard K-1200 riot gun) and included more detailed text with the screenshots. In addition, I revised 3 guns, see below.

(1) Smith&Wesson 27 ==> Smith Wesson 28 (because the movie gun has the matt finish) (2) Federal Ordnance PSP07 ==> Springfield Armory Omega (just check the slide, you will see why) (3) Winchester 1300 Defender ==> Remington 870 Police Magnum (check shotgun discussion page and e.g. the rim between stock and casing)

In any way, thanks for getting this page on the road a few months ago. If you want to discuss this page, please leave a message on my talk page.

Cheers,

--PeeWee055 10:00, 22 August 2011 (CDT)

Thanks for your comments, I was unaware of that SWAT was not used in Australia so let's keep your suggestion. Also, with regards to Patrick Dugin, you're right. I will upload a screenshot later today where his face can be seen. --PeeWee055 06:24, 27 August 2011 (CDT)

Thanks for your comments, I revised Heaven's Burning for the two points you mentioned. I checked on www.imdb.com and most scenes were shot in South Australia so STAR (instead of SWAT) would indeed be more appropriate.

Also, I added screenshots that have actor's faces on them, except for Tony (Patrick Duggin). He only appears 'unmasked' for just a few seconds but he's not carrying a gun in that scene. For this reason, I kept his 'masked' screenshot in the movie entry, but in the actor page did I put the 'unmasked' screenshot.

Thanks for the cooperation! --PeeWee055 11:10, 28 August 2011 (CDT)

What did you do to my shotgun?

I had never intended or thought someone would use my 870 for a gun image. If you want I'll see about taking a better shot of it (like my 870 #2 is) and you can white it out. --Predator20 08:22, 25 August 2011 (CDT)

I wasn't mad about it, I was like "hey that's my gun". I think it was added under additional variants by that one guy who never registered and eventually got banned (he would never respond to us). I didn't mind my pic being used, but I never intended it to be used as a stock image otherwise I would have did a better job. But since we have the need for one, I'll retake it. --Predator20 16:42, 25 August 2011 (CDT)

Thanks for The Glades Screenshots

I wanted to thank you for providing the screenshots for The Glades. I had been meaning to do that for a while but never got around to it. I'm a bit disappointed to see Longworth switched his S&W 4506 for a different sidearm in the new season, but oh well. I believe one of the recent episodes that aired earlier this month was quite gun-heavy, even had what appeared to be a firefight in a junkyard with one of the episode's villains firing on Longworth with what looked like either an H&K G3A3 or an HK91. Again, thank you very much for the help, I greatly appreciate it. Orca1 9904 20:21, 25 August 2011 (CDT)

I seem to recall her drawing her Glock in "A Perfect Storm" when going to back up Longworth after he identifies who the episode's murder suspect is. It's been a while since I've seen it, though. Orca1 9904 20:50, 25 August 2011 (CDT)

Do me a favor

I need your help in an experiment. Go to the Heckler & Koch MP5 page. Scroll down. Go to the first MP5 Pic you see. It should be an MP5A2 (slim handguard, full stock) which was a pic of my MP5. Click on the picture itself to go to the image page. Does the image suddenly get brighter and the IMFDB logo suddenly appears in the lower right hand corner? Now click on the image again to blow it up to full size. What do you see? Do you see an image of a completely different MP5? I am asking several people to do this to check what their experiences are. MoviePropMaster2008 13:14, 26 August 2011 (CDT)

This is what I see

Regardless of whether I refresh or empty the cache and reload or not .... it always comes up the same.

The first image I see is this. Darker thumbnail of MP5A2 with NO imfdb logo.

Error creating thumbnail: File missing

Then when I click on the picture, I see a lighter version of the same pic WITH the IMFDB logo

Error creating thumbnail: File missing

And when I want to blow up the MP5 picture to maximum size (1200 px) I get a thumbnail of a completely different MP5.

Error creating thumbnail: File missing

So you're seeing something completely different on your end? Now that is weird.

Thanks for helping me with this experiment. These are actual screencaps of what I see. MoviePropMaster2008 14:44, 26 August 2011 (CDT)

Re: Heat

I noticed. But my screencaps are of bigger resolution, and usually when I revamp/redo something (i.e. a film page), I replace all screencaps to make the page look consistent. --Warejaws 18:39, 29 August 2011 (CDT)

ps. I'm in the process of reuploading the rest of the screencaps in the next coupla days.

I almost put a heads up on the talk page, but then I thought to myself what harm would it do? I went ahead and replaced some of the caps, as one would think is for the benefit of the page and for IMFDB in general (as it is a major, classic film). Know that I had no intention whatsoever to "vandalize" (in lack of a better term) or to go over admins' heads in the matter. It just never occured to me that way. (Once again, sorry if I sound straight-forward, I'm not trying to insult you or anything.)

What do you think I should do with the caps? Should I bring this up on the talk page? As for me, I'm ready and willing to complete the revamp, no sweat. I have already converted my caps to .jpegs (per standard), and made those caps in which are two shots put together (sorry, have no idea what thay are called in English), like the one below:

Like this shot.

B-3 versus B-2.

I checked the history of the Broken Arrow page and I didn't change "B-3" to "B-2", the user above me on the page revisions list did.

Yep, it was me (--PeeWee055 02:46, 1 September 2011 (CDT)) who changed that. I saw the movier ages ago but I don't remember that anymore. When I happened to see the page a few days ago, I thought it was a typo (B3 where it should have been B2) so I revised, being dedicated to correct contents.

In any way, it might hasve been more appropriate to indicate that B3 is mentioned in the movie as some sort of fictional aircraft (at that time), before somebody else changes it again... --PeeWee055 02:46, 1 September 2011 (CDT)

Doom

Hi, Ben! About 32 hours ago I have uploaded Blu-Ray versions of the caps on the Doom page, but they did not update. I saw that your new images for National Treasure 2 changed almost instantly. I can't figure out why the Doom caps would not update. Any solution to this? (When you click on an image it shows the old version stretched to the size of the new one. I bet it has something to do with CloudFlare...)- bozitojugg3rn4ut 09:28, 10 September 2011 (CDT)

I know it's a little bit late now but I have figured out that changing the size of the picture will update the thumbnail only. If you click on the pic to see the file and the history it will show the old version for about 2-3 days. - bozitojugg3rn4ut 02:02, 2 October 2011 (CDT)

Awesome Work

Great find on the Winchester 1200 Combat pic for the Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home page. I was dead certain that was a Remington 870 with a bayonet lug and custom front sling bracket installed. Way to stay heads-up, I appreciate the help. Orca1 9904 20:39, 18 September 2011 (CDT)

A Soldier's Story

Damn I added the 1911 to Denzel's page after watching it yesterday and you capped the movie. Did you cap it off Netflix? At the beginning there's a close up of the 1911 used, it looked to be WWI M1911 instead of a WWII M1911A1, not sure if that's what Denzel actually used though. If you could get some caps of it that would be good. Thanks.--Predator20 11:50, 20 September 2011 (CDT)

Bridge too Far Leopard

You know, the modified Leopard tank can go on the main movie page, because it is a gun platform. Those usually go at the bottom of the page and the main gun of that actual tank can be listed, even though we don't allow armor mounted main guns to have their own gun pages :) MoviePropMaster2008 01:52, 22 September 2011 (CDT)

A question...

Hi. Fast Five was released in Finland and in UK and several other European countries almost a month ago (proof: http://www.discshop.fi/elokuvat/bluray/fast_furious_5_blu_ray_dvd_digital_copy/P83592 . Alustava julkaisupäivä 2011-09-07 <- the release date). So is it okay to add screencaps already or do I have to wait until October 4, when it comes out in the US?? --Warejaws 17:10, 29 September 2011 (CDT)

Weird spammer

User:Solar has been uploading poor-quality and bad images for a while now (images with terrible eraser marks, an obviously fake VSS, etc) and has now taken to flaming people on their talk pages over having his "contributions" reverted. You can see his attitude towards contributing here; basically, he'll dump whatever he likes on us and we have to clean it up if we don't like it. And I'm fairly sure the end is swearing at me in Ukrainian, since I can't think of any other reason to suddenly switch languages. Evil Tim 15:36, 1 October 2011 (CDT)

If you're looking at copyright issues, I can also tell you that XM8 Compact was from world.guns.ru. All those eraser marks were him clumsily destroying the background to get rid of Max Popenker's copyright watermark. Evil Tim 17:38, 1 October 2011 (CDT)

Black Hawk Down

I am planning to work on Black Hawk Down by this Saturday and would probably replace your saturated images as I believe it is better that the images retain the movie's slight desaturated look. What do you suggest I do? Replace your saturated images with ones from my iTunes copy (which is in a 1280 x ??? configuration) with the sharpness added or upload screenshots in your configuration, which is slightly added saturation, sharpness, and brightness? - Kenny99 23:03, 9 October 2011 (CDT)

Actually, iTunes also offers an HD version to buy or rent that are in 1280 x (randomized) resolution. I will replace the picture of the first Browning M2HB and you can see for yourself. - Kenny99 19:30, 10 October 2011 (CDT)

Hey Ben, so I was wondering, do you guys use DVD's / blu rays to get your screen caps? Because whenever I try to get ones from online streaming (like Hulu) the quality sucks... That's why I lean towards promo images because the photographer uses a flash that lights up the gun nicely whereas bad quality screenshot + low light filming = failure... --Sergei Titov 23:08, 21 October 2011 (CDT)

Hey dude, so i've got some great screenshots of the previously watermarked chuck pics, and i "uploaded new version" but it dosen't show as the new version. Ok so i read about wiki formatting and apparentely only admins can delete pics. could u plz delete my upload http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/File:Strahovski-ep215-032.jpg so I can upload the right one. this screencap displays the weapon well, and the 5906 (main gun of sarah) section needs some episodic variety rather than just 3 caps from like 3 eps. dont worry i wont go stark crazy again with a million frontals of the gun. i weeded the selection to like 3 or 4 that show in in either clear close up or amazing sideview. it'll look pretty epic :):) --Sergei Titov 22:22, 25 October 2011 (CDT)

Looking over the new users list...

And damn, it looks like about 90% of new accounts are this spambot. This current pair (and the other one I deleted) were all registered on the 9th, so it looks like it tries to lie low and / or wait out any block a wiki might have on newly registered users doing certain things. Seems to do NameNameXXX or NameXXXName where XXX is up to three numbers. So any objections to just banning those as soon as I see them instead of waiting for them to do anything? Evil Tim 01:40, 24 October 2011 (CDT)

Jesse Stone

Thanks. I was surprised that the page hadn't been made. I own all the movies so it's not an issue. I've been a fan of Tom Selleck since Magnum P.I. came on the air in 1980. I was twelve! Yes I can do that. It might take me a few days, but I will get to it. Or maybe I'll do it tonite. I never know. As far as his time. All I can think of is BLue Bloods is filmed in New York City and the Stone movies are filmed up in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick (can't remember). It's not that far and his character in BB is only in about 25% - 30% of most episodes. I imagine when he needs some time they can have an episode that has him in front of the camera even less than usual. I'm sure they'll work with him. That show is still on because Selleck is popular with middle-aged viewers like me. --Jcordell 19:35, 3 November 2011 (CDT)

One of Selleck's stipulations when he signed on to Blue Bloods was that the filming of that show would not interrupt the filming of the Jesse Stone films because of how much Selleck loves playing the character. When you see him talk about it in interviews it looks like Jesse is his most favourite character he's ever played. --cool-breeze 18:52, 13 November 2011 (CST)

Criminal Minds: Female serial killer's gun

I suppose the female serial killer of the parking at Dallas is Megan (Brianna Brown), from the Episode "Pleasure is my business" of the 4th Season.

Um...Why'd you remove Arkham City? It's correctly formatted, has screenshots, and only has one unknown. Evil Tim 03:10, 6 November 2011 (CST)

Well, second is the same, just with a barrel extension, I just picked what I thought were the two best images that weren't that pistol we're still trying to ID. I figure we could use a few videogames in the rotation (if only because then we can point people to them and say "this is a correctly formatted article" more easily); we used to have Call of Duty: World at War in there until I guess someone actually looked at it and realised it had links-in-headings formatting and was only half-written. Still, I'll go for something a little more "Gun Game" than Arkham City next time, I've got a few I'm working on that would work for that. Evil Tim 03:26, 6 November 2011 (CST)

One Question

I understand what you meant when you took down my comment about bad trigger discipline in James Bond Movies, but when I went back simply to say the safety is off, that was taken down. I'm still new to IMFDB, so I don't know how to check and see who did it, but I assume it was you. I don't want to sound like a jerk, or like I don't respect you, but I was wondering how come I can't simply point out that the safety is off? I've seen comments like this on other pages, so why is it a problem on the License to Kill page? Is there another angle of it? Going by this:

Re: Halo Faith

Hi Ben, I createed the Halo:Faith page that I believe you have deleted. I just want to say that the weapon did mock up to resemble the fictional Assault rifle but is from real weapon, which alot of futuristic films do that too. I just dont understand why it got removed. Also, the film itself is legal.

Thanks anyway, for taking time to explain the imfdb policy and all that to me. Sorry for taking the trouble. --S9771773G 10:08, 26 November 2011 (CST)

By the way, Funkychinaman and I were just discussing if we could create a page on foreign TV series filmed in ROC(Taiwan) by Formosa TV last year, featuring teenage boys entering Army boot camp, so there are definitely lots of firearms to write about. We've asked Evil Tim but we cant reach him. So check our talk pages if you want to know more. --S9771773G 10:48, 28 November 2011 (CST)

The show appears to meet all the qualifications for a page except that it is not on IMDb. It does have its own page on its network website though and from what I can tell, with the few sources I can find in English, it ran for two series/seasons, with 43 episodes. I cross-referenced a few of the actors in it, and it just appears to IMDb is unaware of the series. He just needs the mods to sign off on exempting it from the IMDb rule. --Funkychinaman 10:52, 28 November 2011 (CST)

Movie dates

I just corrected the page for Aaliyah. You were the sole creator/editor of the page, and I noticed that you put down that Romeo Must Die came out in 1997 (it actually came out in 2000). I've seen you do this on a whole bunch of pages, too. From now, please make sure you're a lot more careful about those kinds of details - it's very simple to look at the movie page and be sure you have the right date, or IMDB if someone forgot to put it. Having such blatantly incorrect info is embarrassing and unprofessional. -MT2008 20:22, 25 November 2011 (CST)

While I have no problem correcting info, I would appreciate it if you would be a lot more careful in the first place, because I can't catch everything (it was only by chance that I discovered the mistake mentioned earlier). Thanks. -MT2008 10:32, 26 November 2011 (CST)
OK, I just corrected another one - on the Taurus PT92 page, you said that God of Gamblers came out in 1986, even though you worked on the page, which says (correctly) that it came out in 1989. Please, please, PLEASE, watch what you're doing. That sort of inaccuracy makes us look bad, and I should not have to clean up after a fellow admin. -MT2008 10:03, 21 January 2012 (CST)
First of all, maybe I'm just OCD about dates, but incorrect dates are not something that I regard as "relatively minor mistakes". Perhaps it's because of my training - in my field, I am often required to collect data which track event histories and economic/population indicators across time. If I routinely entered dates into the data sets that were off by a few years, and anyone caught me, I would get in serious trouble (maybe even fired). Anyway, the reason I'm "harping" on you is because I have checked the page histories every time and found that you were the one who made the incorrect edits (and it's not just Romeo Must Die and God of Gamblers - I've found other incorrect dates that you added to other pages). When it happens frequently enough that it's hard for me not to notice, I have to regard this problem as a problem specific to you.
I am sorry for my "harsh" response, but I am trying to make sure that you are cognizant of this problem, and that you will actively deal with it. I do not just want you to apologize and thank me for catching your mistakes; I would like you to promise me that from now on, you will check the Internet Movie Database and verify your dates when you add them in (whether it's actor pages or gun pages). I appreciate that you do a lot of work for this site - certainly more than I am doing at this point - but that is also why I have to be sure that you don't post incorrect dates on large numbers of gun/actor pages. Your high volume of work + carelessness about dates = major problem for the entire site. Remember, I am the one you recommended you for the Admin position on IMFDB that you now hold. I did so because I trusted that you were committed to being thorough and accurate - which are qualities that matter far more to IMFDB than just sheer volume of work. I ask only that you honor my trust. -MT2008 09:50, 24 January 2012 (CST)

Battle LA screenshots

How are you getting shots off the Blu-Ray? I can't find any way to get anything but a black screen. Was going to add the AAVP7A1 you see on TV just after they open up the armoury (15:45 on the disc). Evil Tim 16:25, 28 November 2011 (CST)

Nope, No joy. Must just be the Arcsoft Totalmedia Theatre 5 doesn't output in a way anything can capture from, I've tried printscreen, Irfanview, even FRAPS can't get shots from it, and it's own screenshot button is greyed-out for Blu-Ray. About the only way I could get screenshots is to play the disc on my PS3 and capture using the HD-PVR. Evil Tim 19:34, 28 November 2011 (CST)
Well, it seems that way actually works rather well, as long as I pause the disc where I want to take snapshots from it. It's a completely ridiculous way to take screenshots, but what do you think of the quality? Evil Tim 00:09, 29 November 2011 (CST)
By the way, I had a word with Bunni; turns out that it generally is trouble capping from Bluray discs because most new players removed their screenshot feature and deliver video to the player in such a way that, as with me, you end up with a black screen. He says it's to stop people who would capture every single frame and then re-assemble it into a movie to bypass copy protection. So what I'm saying is, whatever Bluray player program you're using, don't upgrade it. Evil Tim 08:28, 30 November 2011 (CST)

24 Season 8 screenshots

Hey dude just wanted to say how awesome those new screenshots look, I'm guessing they're bluray rips, keep up the good work, it's appreciated :) --cool-breeze 07:02, 30 November 2011 (CST)

Picture dimensions

I saw your message to IGemini. So 500px for 4:3 and 600px for letterbox? --Funkychinaman 18:35, 2 December 2011 (CST)

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. --Funkychinaman 19:18, 2 December 2011 (CST)

Top Shot

While I see where you are coming from and agree that they are not technically guns, I really feel that they belong on the main page. They play a pivotal role in the show and are the focus of attention when in use. It also is for "completeness" sake. I don't want to only list 20 out of 24 weapons. In a movie, when you see a kid playing with a paintball gun for 10 seconds, I agree that THAT would not belong on the main page. Also, I feel that anyone unfamiliar with the sight who finds them selves here looking at the weapons will not know to check the discussion page (personally i never looked at a discussion page until I joined the site after using it for months to look things up). Finally, I found at least three other cases where non guns are listed on the main page. In Rambo (2008) for example, the machete and bow are included on the main page. Same with the Custom Torque Bow in Predator. And in The Punisher the compound bow is included.

To clarify (cause I know that tone is IMPOSSIBLE to convey in these post) please know that I am not trying to get in a fight with you, I simply see it a different way. I have posed the question to an administrator. Let's wait and see what he says and go from there. Sound good? Thanks for you input. --Zackmann08 15:59, 7 December 2011 (CST)

Fair enough. My mistake. Like I said, I meant no offense what so ever. --Zackmann08 16:07, 7 December 2011 (CST)
As for reversing your changes that was DEFINITELY a mistake on my part. When I saw someone had deleted all my stuff I basically had a 'wtf' moment. It wasn't until after I had reversed them that I saw your post in my discussion which is why I undid, my undoing of your changes. I have only been a member of this site for about a week and am still getting used to the way things work here. I ask your forgiveness if I acted inappropriately.--Zackmann08 16:11, 7 December 2011 (CST)
Thank you very much. I appreciate your guidance. I am really happy to be part of this site and hope to make some good contributions. As for the list of administrators, I actually really needed that so thank you for that as well. --Zackmann08 16:25, 7 December 2011 (CST)
Predator agrees with you and in the end I must defer to your collective judgement. The one that I still have a reservation about is the Hotchkiss Mountain Gun from season three. It seems to me to qualify as a gun. --Zackmann08 18:27, 7 December 2011 (CST)

Re: Mosin-Nagant rifle

Glad to be helpful. I'll make the table on Mosin-Nagant page for TV and games. Greg-Z 04:22, 8 December 2011 (CST)

Jesus Christ Superstar

Thanks a lot for your editing on Jesus Christ Superstar. I've added a poster and the other two entries I was planning - the current 4 are the only firearms that appear in the film, so the page should now be comprehensive. I'm not 100% sure that the M2 is an M2, and I could use help identifying the unknown rifle (maybe an M1 Garand?) Anyway, thanks a bunch for helping. Technician Fry 23:40, 10 December 2011 (CST)

Sortable tables

Hey. Let me know what the admins agree on with regards to sortable tables. I would gladly help with a change over if the decision is made to switch all gun pages to this format.--Zackmann08 22:28, 16 December 2011 (CST)

24

I don't have them Sorry dude. I really wish I did. I'm trying to help out where I can but as a college student I only have so much time to devote to this. I'm really glad someone is doing it though! I also saw that you were doing JAG. That one really needed some work so thanks for that. --Zackmann08 20:24, 19 December 2011 (CST)

As a follow up, is it bad etiquette to add an incomplete tag if you don't intend to fix the problem? Sometimes when I'm on my iPad (which is hard to edit from) I like to use the 'Random Page' function and when I find a page that is clearly incomplete I add the tag. If I had the movie/show I definitely would and do fix it. --Zackmann08 20:26, 19 December 2011 (CST)
Understood. Thanks for your guidance. --Zackmann08 09:24, 20 December 2011 (CST)

Covert Affairs

Hey man. Thanks for your help with Covert Affairs. I am in the process of going through it episode by episode and adding stuff in to complete it. As always, i appreciate the help of those wiser than me. --Zackmann08 19:26, 21 December 2011 (CST)

Ban

While some comments are a little on the flippant side (something bunni has told me he doesn't mind with games), others removed the entire description for an image. Several images were cut entirely for no good reason, sentences weren't proofread to ensure they actually made any sense...It was basically vandalism. Evil Tim 03:18, 23 December 2011 (CST)

Ok, I'll add a warning. I tend to be suspicious of users with edit histories it would be generous to describe as half-hearted suddenly doing things like that, though I might have overreacted in this case. Evil Tim 03:31, 23 December 2011 (CST)

Advice

You obviously know your way around IMFDB, so I'm asking you for advice.

In the movie Se7en, the film makers went to great lengths to keep the killer's identity secret. I've mentioned on the Discussion page that we should keep Kevin Spacey's (the killer's) name and picture from the page. Should I take his name down, or let it be. I haven't been on this website that long, so that's why I need advice.

Thanks for your help!--Yo dawg 111 10:57, 24 December 2011 (CST)

Thank you--Yo dawg 111 14:16, 24 December 2011 (CST)

Se7en

I'd have to disagree with the ruling you made there. Standards have to trump the spoiler policy, and we do have to say the actor is Kevin Spacey. Otherwise we fail to credit the actor, and the spoiler policy specifically points out we're trying to "prove certain guns were used by certain actors." By necessity, Kevin's own page already contains this spoiler anyway, and turning that into a one-way link doesn't really make much sense. I think all that's really needed is to move the spoiler warning somewhere more prominent (top of the page, say) and accept that because of the way our pages are formatted and the site's purpose in identifying the actors who used the weapons as well as the weapons themselves, we can't not say who the actor playing John Doe is. As for the name (Yodawg changed "John Doe" to "the killer" throughout), the whole point of the killer being "John Doe" is that it isn't a real name, so it can hardly be considered a spoiler to say that's the killer's alias. Evil Tim 03:09, 25 December 2011 (CST)

I've changed the spoiler warning to be at the top of the page and state exactly what is spoiled. Evil Tim 03:46, 25 December 2011 (CST)
We're supposed to link to the actor's page from the movie article when mentioning that character, that's how every other live-action page is formatted. While it is something of a spoiler, the most we can really do while keeping correct article format is to have that big warning at the top that we have now. Evil Tim 04:52, 25 December 2011 (CST)
I've made a thread to discuss it in the forum; you're welcome to post your counterpoint there. Also, merry Christmas to you. Evil Tim 05:22, 25 December 2011 (CST)

brand page

Jury is still out. I tend to eschew new types of pages as unnecessary padding and density of the site. Don't know why people need it. But I will wait and see how useful it can be. If it isn't we shouldn't add to the complexity of the site. If it is useful then we can keep it. MoviePropMaster2008 01:31, 27 December 2011 (CST)

Gun Brand Pages

I appreciate the feedback and frankly your right. I'm going to call it quits for a while until a consensus is made. I really think the pages are super helpful to a lot of members. I also feel that if you don't want to use the page, you don't need to. I don't think it hurts the site to have more information available. That being said, I'm new here and will always defer to my superiors. --Zackmann08 10:54, 28 December 2011 (CST)

As a follow up, should colt be "colt firearms" or "Colt Manufacturing Company"? The ladder is the actual name of the company. --Zackmann08 15:47, 28 December 2011 (CST)
Sounds good. Also, your comment about these being more like "disambiguation" pages, is that a good thing or a bad one?
Gotcha. I was just trying to clarify what you meant. I'm really anxious to get started on the S&W page... but im still waiting to make sure these pages aren't all going to get deleted.... --Zackmann08 20:42, 28 December 2011 (CST)

Let it not be an issue of one or the other. I am using the Manufacturer pages as a way of methodically cleaning up the gun pages. Once they are in the manufacturer page, I am going through and making sure that they are all cleaned up. I also have a folder of bookmarked pages waiting for me to do. I'm glad that the cleanup is helping though. --Zackmann08 09:39, 5 January 2012 (CST)

Tables

I haven't been seeking out any particular pages to convert, just converting any pages I come across, and then just going down on the line. You might have probably noticed waves of pages starting with the same letter as a result. I haven't been doing anything other than converting the information to tables, unless something is glaring. I've been using the Smith & Wesson Model 29 page as a template, as it has all four groups (Film, Television, Video Games, Anime) and isn't as big as either the Glock or M1911 pages. (The Glock page still has a small section that isn't in a wikitable.)

As for info, it's a bit frustrating because sometimes all that's listed is a title, with no actors. I did part of the SKS page today, and a user just said "Kate from Lost", not even listing the actress' name, even though she's one of the leads. I usually have to cross reference the show page and IMDb to get episode info and dates. Compared to that, listing special features in the notes seems like a piece of cake.

If I do the Remington 870 page, I'll probably do it in chunks. I have a bunch of Rugers and Sigs on my plate right now. --Funkychinaman 23:31, 28 December 2011 (CST)

On the tables that I've been converting to, I've been putting them in ascending order, with the earliest titles first. Is that the standard? --Funkychinaman 02:00, 2 January 2012 (CST)

NCIS: Los Angeles

Since when are we dividing the page into seasons? I though we were going to leave it one page.--Mandolin 09:36, 29 December 2011 (CST)

24 Season 1

Hey, I noticed you updated the 24 Season 1 page. I was the one wondering about Andre Drazen's gun, and I didn't think it was a SW99 cos of what look like brown grips, but I think after consideration it probably it a SW99.

Secondly, about Teddy Hanlin's rifle - You've changed it from an AR-15 to a Rocky Mountain Patriot Pistol. I think it's definitely not the patriot pistol, and a while ago I got up a pic of what was claimed to be an AR-15 that looked identical to his pistol - I can't find it now though! It looks like it could be a type of rifle made from AR-15 parts - check out the Panther Bull Sweet 16 on google, which is almost the same. What do you think?--Acer4666 07:27, 31 December 2011 (CST)

I've gone ahead and changed it on the article. Check it out if you get a chance--Acer4666 17:48, 4 January 2012 (CST)

Re: Renny Harlin

I'm in the middle of doing all of those things, but thanks for checking, we Finns are known for our half-assery. :) BUT, since I'm here, how do you create a Category? I tried moving him into Category:Renny Harlin to create a hyperlink, but it doesn't let me; (Cannot move pages into namespace "Category")... --Warejaws 03:36, 3 January 2012 (CST)

Oh, okay. Thanx. --Warejaws 03:45, 3 January 2012 (CST)

Why remove Radom?

Radom is the name MOST PEOPLE know the handgun by. Sure have the official title of it, but here is one case where most people have no idea what the 'official name' is. MoviePropMaster2008 05:27, 3 January 2012 (CST)

The Kelly's Heroes quote is actually weird. Radom is the 'unofficial' name for the pistol, and is NOT incorrect as in the name "Schmeisser" is completely incorrect when referring to the MP-40 Submachine gun (since Hugo Schmeisser had nothing to do with the design of that gun). Radom is the Polish city where the Arsenal is located that made the pistol. I woul rewrite the Kelly's Heroes quote to something more akin to mentioning that it was an 'unofficial' term for the pistol by Western gun enthusiasts. The phrasing that it's wholly inaccurate is itself misleading.  :) I have to leave to a movie set in 15 minutes so have a great day :D best regards MPM

NCIS LA

Hey man. I was doing a little editing of the NCIS LA pages and I noticed that there is still some overlap between season 1 and 2 (screenshots that appear on both pages). I'm guessing that you are still working on it so I didn't move anything but just wanted to check. Let me know if I can help. --Zackmann08 11:37, 3 January 2012 (CST)

Villar-Perosa and Indy 3

Isn't the precedent for mocked up guns to put them on the page of the actual gun? The Beretta Model 38 page already has the mocked up Villar-Perosa's on them. --Funkychinaman 17:24, 3 January 2012 (CST)

Removing Gun Images

Dude, I'm sorry. That was definitely a mistake on my part. Thanks for pointing that out. In the future I will definitely be more careful about that stuff. :-) --Zackmann08 08:41, 6 January 2012 (CST)

After you pointed it out to me, MovePropMaster2008 also pointed out that it was one of his Specially licensed photos. I just wanted to make sure you saw the note that I put on his page.
You are certainly right but please look at it from my perspective. I saw a gun that had a category but had no movies listed under it. This is a correction that I had seen done many times. That being said. I need to be more careful. I have made mistakes, but each time I make one, I learn from it. For example, I got into trouble for rearranging pages without really knowing what I was doing, so when I thought it might be useful to redo the Smith & Wesson M&P page, I got feedback from an admin before I did anything. You can bet that if I ever think that a picture should be removed, I am first going to check and see if it is one of yours (I know that your pictures are special because of your position as an armorer and the fact that you photograph them specifically for this site, i.e. I'm not just saying "I'm not gonna mess with your pictures cause I don't want to piss you off.) Furthermore, I will move the picture to the Discussion page with a note saying why I did so instead of just removing it.
I completely respect and understand the concern that you have as an admin. Please know that I look up to you and the other senior members of this site, and I appreciate every time that you point out a mistake of mine because, as I said, it helps me learn. I am trying to do more of the 'mundane grunt work' on the site (converting stuff to wikitables, making sure titles are in Italics, etc.) and not just making huge changes. I appreciate your continued guidance and every bit of patience you can spare me. --Zackmann08 13:59, 6 January 2012 (CST)
yes sir. With regards to the "proper name", i totally agree with you. I was actually just waiting to hear back from bunni about what I should use to determine the proper name. For movies I know IMDB is the source. Should i just go off of Wikipedia? I'm about to board a cross country flight so ill be out for a while but i'll do the fixes tonight or tommorow. --Zackmann08 15:18, 6 January 2012 (CST)

NBC Logos

From now on, I will photoshop out the logos on screencaps that I can; i.e. when the logo is on a solid color. --Sergei Titov

S&W guns

Hey, I'm in the process of adding the S&W revolvers and I came across the Smith & Wesson Model 15. I noticed that it is split up into the Model 15 and the Model 15 Snub. Just out of curiosity, when is the 'snub' considered a variant versus just being a different length? I know that many revolvers come in a variety of lengths but the pages are not split up into each different length. (Just to clarify, I'm not suggesting it be changed, I'm just trying to understand the rule.) Thanks. --Zackmann08 12:00, 7 January 2012 (CST)

I got another one for ya... Just got to the Smith & Wesson Model 27 / 28. For the sake of continuity, do you think it would be better to have these both have their own page? Right now it goes Model 24, Model 25, Model 27/28, Model 29. To keep the pattern it would seem they should each have their own page. I'm not going to change it but just wanted to get your thoughts. --Zackmann08 13:32, 7 January 2012 (CST)
Same goes for the Smith & Wesson Model 36 / 38 page... --Zackmann08 13:52, 7 January 2012 (CST)
Couldn't Agree more! --Zackmann08 19:59, 7 January 2012 (CST)
Another one for ya is the Smith & Wesson Model 642 Centennial. First off, I wanted to get the okay to ditch the "Centennial" since S&W no longer uses it in the title of the gun. Second, I wanted to make sure it was alright to give the Model 442 its own page. Thanks again. --Zackmann08 20:17, 7 January 2012 (CST)
I was under the impression that you have given me the ok to make the change, otherwise I would not have made it. I'm sorry that I didn't do this properly, I wasn't done with the page, but your point is taken. If you would like me to change it all back, I will gladly do so. Otherwise, I'm going to stop making changes entirely. --Zackmann08 00:28, 8 January 2012 (CST)

Remington 870

I defiantly wont be splitting them up to different pages. It looks like it already is divided into different models though. I don't know enough about the 870 to know if it needs to be divided up further. If you want to help me by making the new model sections, I will gladly sort stuff into the respective section. Also, any issue with me moving the page from "Remington Model 870 Shotgun" to just "Remington Model 870"? All the other Remington shotgun pages are done in this way (sans "shotgun" in the title). --Zackmann08 14:54, 11 January 2012 (CST)

Sounds good. As I said, I don't mind doing the mundane stuff like sorting the occurrences into the proper variant. I just don't want to make a bunch of unnecessary variants. Let me know how I can help. :-) --Zackmann08 15:02, 11 January 2012 (CST)

NCIS

Dude.... I just wanted to say you are doing a KILLER job with the NCIS pages! SOOO happy to see how awesome they look! Great work. --Zackmann08 22:47, 16 January 2012 (CST)

Manufacturer Template

I created a template for the manufacturer pages (Manufacturer Template). I am going to add a link to it from the page. I would love any input from you and other admins on it. I want to make it as straight forward as possible. Thanks! --Zackmann08 13:36, 19 January 2012 (CST)

Homefront

Hi, thanks for the feedback on the homefront page. I removed pictures and captions because they had no relevant need to be on a page about the firearms in a game. For instance, the contributor "gundolier" talks about video game's hidden walls, and the use of stock footage to show Korean vehicles. These are both hardly anything to do with firearms. If i was over-corrective I apologise, but ask that someone else reads through this page and decides on the relevant content.

Glock

Yeah, they write it like that for the trademark, but nobody else does. Eg this and this. If you write it in allcaps it makes it look like it's an acronym, which it isn't. Evil Tim 06:41, 21 January 2012 (CST)

Colt 1895 Automatic Machine Gun

Hey man, I was just doing some work on the Colt 1895 Automatic Machine Gun page. Isn't the gun technically called the "M1895 Colt-Browning Machine Gun"? Both the images on the discussion page have that in their caption as well. --Zackmann08 22:25, 27 January 2012 (CST)

Woops...

I AM SOOOOOOOOOO SORRY!!!! I didn't mean to delete the season 4 page!! My computer glitched out when I hit save page and it stopped loading, so I closed the browser page and didnt think anything of it until i logged in today and got ur message :S About the petition I just thought it might be a good idea.. won't happen again. Also. All my caps for chuck vs. sarah and chuck vs. the goodbye were removed? If that's your idea of "discipline" for a mere accident then... How about this, everything that happens is not done with malicious intent. Accidents happen and mine was quite a big one, I just hope you can understand that... --Сергей Титов, Sergei Titov 15:37, 2 February 2012 (CST)

Think about it anyways... Why would I purposefully delete a page I heavily contribute to? CHUCK IS MY LIFE! --Сергей Титов, Sergei Titov 15:42, 2 February 2012 (CST)

TheHeartbreakKid15

Hey, for whats its worth I wanted you to know that TheHeartbreakKid15 is back to his editing of gun page links. I looked at his user page and saw that you and other admins had already told him multiple times to knock it off. I have undone a number of his edits on the Manufacturer pages. I see them as not redundant but actually detrimental because if a page is moved you cant simply edit the redirect, you have to go and edit the actually code that this guy is adding. --Zackmann08 11:29, 6 February 2012 (CST)
