I just did a quick screening of the movie to confirm something: I cant find a single scene in which the M1 Garand rifle is actually fired. The soldiers & paratroopers are seen either just carrying them (Like John Waynes character) or simply points them at the enemy but never firing. The M1 Carbine, (carried by a conspicuously large amount of the troops), seems to have taken over the shooting duties in this movie on the American side. Was there a problem with M1 Garands ability to fire blanks in those days? Or was it a financial & practical issue?
