M1 Carbine
The M1 Carbine is used by the officers in the film, including Lt. Joe Clemons (Gregory Peck ), and by his radiomen, S/Sgt. Coleman (Norman Fell ) and Cpl. Payne (Cliff Ketchum ). All of these men use the post-WW2 30-round "Banana" Magazines.

Browning M1919A4
The Browning M1919A4 is used by 7th Infantry Division soldiers during the battle including Cpl. Chuck Fedderson (George Peppard ) and Pvt. Forstman (Harry Guardino ). Peppard himself had actual military training. Peppard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps July 8, 1946, and rose to the rank of corporal in the 10th Marines, leaving the Corps at the end of his period of enlistment in January 1948.
