Nice article. I believe the unknown rifle used by Korpelas' character could be a Japanese Arisaka Type 38 cavalry carbine. During WW1 Russia acquired a fairly large number of Japanese rifles because their domestic rifle production couldn't keep up with the demand. Historically many Russian army units stationed in the Grand Duchy of Finland were equipped with them, and Russian bolsheviks also supplied them to Finnish reds, so the appearance of a Japanese carbine in the Finnish civil war would be accurate. | |||

Unknown rifle
Nice article. I believe the unknown rifle used by Korpelas' character could be a Japanese Arisaka Type 38 cavalry carbine. During WW1 Russia acquired a fairly large number of Japanese rifles because their domestic rifle production couldn't keep up with the demand. Historically many Russian army units stationed in the Grand Duchy of Finland were equipped with them, and Russian bolsheviks also supplied them to Finnish reds, so the appearance of a Japanese carbine in the Finnish civil war would be accurate.
- After reviewing the rifle in question I have to agree.
- Ariska 38 Carbine
- The bayonet too matches the one shown in the movie.
- Bayonet
