Walther P99AS (Anti Stress)
Introduced in 2004, the "AS" model Walther P99 features an 'Anti Stress' mode in the trigger. What this means is that even though the gun is a SA/DA gun, when the slide is pulled back and the gun cocked the trigger returns to the double action position for the first shot to try and prevent accidental firing.  The AS is generally the most popular trigger type for the P99, and all pre-2004 P99s are of the "AS" type (although not designated as such) unless otherwise indicated. It is visually very close to the QA model, but can be identified by its larger decocker which is the same as the one found on the pre-2004 P99. The P99AS models were the last P99 variants to still be in production, and they were discontinued in 2021 due to the release of the Walther PDP.

Released in 2000, the Walther P99QA features the "Quick Action" trigger which is of the same style as that found on Glock pistols. Once loaded the striker is at the half cock position, and pulling the trigger fully cocks the striker and releases it for all shots. The P99QA is the brother of the more traditional P99AS, and can be differentiated by its smaller semi-circular decocker as opposed to the larger rectangular decocker on the P99AS. The reason for the decocker being smaller is that it is not intended to be used whilst the pistol is being carried but only for storage, as in essence the pistol behaves as a single action only pistol and is incapable of being fired from the uncocked position until the slide is racked again. The P99QA was discontinued in 2011, but the development of the Walther P99QA eventually led to the development of the Walther PPQ that same year, also utilizing a pre-set striker, albeit one fully cocked rather than the partially cocked striker of the P99QA.

Thanks to a licensing agreement with Walther, Smith & Wesson produced a cousin, the Smith & Wesson SW99. There are slight differences in the grip and the slide from the Walther pistol. Umarex also produces replica prop P99 pistols that are used in some media productions.

The Walther P99 pistol has appeared in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:

Walther P99AS (Anti Stress)

Walther P99AS (Anti Stress) - .40 S&W. Note the slightly longer and non-scalloped front of the .40 model's slide.

Walther P99QA (Quick Action) with titanium coated slide - 9x19mm
