Wind River is a 2017 contemporary Western crime/thriller film set in and around the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming. After he finds a dead Native American girl in the snow, Fish and Wildlife Agent Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) joins forces with FBI Special Agent Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen) and Tribal Police Chief Ben Shoyo (Graham Greene) to find the killer. Wind River is only the second film directed by Taylor Sheridan, the actor/screenwriter who recently gained acclaim for his screenplays to the films Sicario and Hell or High Water. Sheridan would collaborate again with actor Renner for the Paramount+ streaming series Mayor of Kingstown.
The following weapons were used in the film Wind River:
The main sidearm for the oil rig guards all appear to be Heckler & Koch USP handguns.
Ruger Super Blackhawk
Agent Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) carries a stainless steel Ruger Super Blackhawk revolver with a 4 5/8-inch barrel, adjustable rear sight, fluted cylinder and wooden grips. (Possibly chambered for .44 Magnum or .45 Colt.)
Shotguns
Mossberg 590 Mariner
An oil rig guard (Mason Davis) carries a Mossberg 590 Mariner shotgun during the Mexican standoff and ensuing gunfight.
Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) uses what may be a Remington Model 700 of some sort in his first scene. The rifle is fitted with a telescopic sight and is covered in white camouflage wrapping, hindering identification.
Marlin Model 1895SBL
Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) carries a scoped Marlin Model 1895SBL, which he uses to devastating effect in the climactic gunfight. Earlier in the film, Lambert is seen loading his own ammunition for this rifle, and according to his digital loading scale, he appears to be using 500gr bullets hence the devastating effect. Trivia: While Lambert is depicted as working for U.S. Fish & Wildlife, Animal Damage Control was moved to the Department of Agriculture in 1985.
Heckler & Koch HK416D
An oil rig guard fires a Heckler & Koch HK416D fitted with an EOTech sight during the climactic gunfight.
