Why Didn't They Ask Evans?
Why Didn't They Ask Evans? is a 1980 British television adaptation of Agatha Christie's 1934 novel of the same name starring Francesca Annis and James Warwick. Agatha Christie had not been impressed by earlier attempts to adapt her work for television, so she was very hesitant to allow them. Her death in 1976 lifted the embargo, and the success of this adaptation opened the door for later television adaptations of Christie's works such as Agatha Christie's Miss Marple and Agatha Christie's Poirot. London Weekend Television followed the success of this film with a second Agatha Christie TV movie, Seven Dials Mystery, in 1981. Both share actors John Gielgud and James Warwick, although they play different characters. With the success of both films, London Weekend Television would go on to reunite Annis and Warwick for the 1983 television series Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime.
