|
What Happened to Monday (alternate title: Seven Sisters) is a 2017 sci-fi thriller directed by Tommy Wirkola. The film takes place in a dystopian 2073, when overpopulation results in a strict one-child policy enforced by the Child Allocation Bureau (C.A.B.), headed by biologist Nicolette Cayman (Glenn Close). All but the oldest child in a family are taken away and put into artificial sleep until the situation on Earth improves.
In the Settman family, Karen Settman gives birth to seven identical sisters, and dies during childbirth. The children's grandfather, Terrence, (Willem Dafoe) names the children after the days of the week, and trains them to appear as one person - Karen Settman (Noomi Rapace), named after their mother. Each of the seven girls can only leave the house on the day of their name. This way of life lasts until one day, Monday fails to return home.
