Welcome to IMFDB
Before you do any editing please take the time to read the Rules, Standards and Principles. This is a very important document that explains how this website is setup as well as telling you what is and isn't allowed. If it is determined by an admin that you have not read these rules, your account will be suspended. Continued non-compliance may result in a permanent ban. After that you should also read the IMFDB Screencapping Guide and the IMFDB Style Guide to familiarize yourself with the image and formatting requirements for pages you create.
There are a number of pages that desperately need your help. You can find these Incomplete pages here.
If you have any questions, feel free to post them here but make sure to sign your post by typing --~~~~.
Finally, IMFDB has a forum set up here that is only available to registered members. There is lots of good stuff to see there. If you would like to join the forum, please post HERE and an account will be created for you.
Now, HAPPY EDITING! bunni (talk) 00:47, 28 July 2020 (EDT)

'Western' categorization
For something to be considered of a particular category, it must meet the criteria of said category. The generally accepted definition of a 'western' in fiction is that it has to do with the 'wild west' aka 'old west' motif, IE set in the western US in the mid-to-late 19th or at most very early 20th century. You've put that tag on movies and shows that are set in times that are not in that period (some that take place in quite contemporary times), in places that aren't in the American 'west', and have no other major elements or aspects that fit into a 'western' paradigm. I've reverted these edits. Please refrain from doing any more edits like this. StanTheMan (talk) 22:16, 28 September 2020 (EDT)

Sorry, but I have to mark the page as a candidate for deletion. It is WIP for a week, and no content appeared on the page. If you don't take steps to complete the page, we'll have to delete it soon. --Greg-Z (talk) 03:27, 1 November 2020 (EST)
- I'll try and work on it today. I've been busy with schoolwork from college. Plus I am very new to the formate & I'm still trying to figure out how to make a page.
- OK, I'm marking the page back to WIP, on your word of honor :). As for the formatting of pages, the easiest way is to look at the code of one of the existing ones. You are welcome to ask for assistance, if it is needed. I usually come here every day and I hope that I will be able to answer your questions quickly enough. --Greg-Z (talk) 14:54, 1 November 2020 (EST)
Thank you. I'm trying to learn the ins and outs of the site. I'll ask a buddy of mine to come over once he's out of quarantine to help me with other pages.

Custer
I'm looking into the movie now. What's the distribution? Was it just offered on the one website? --Funkychinaman (talk) 15:07, 1 April 2023 (UTC) Yes, it is just from the site as of now. I know the director, so I can see what other plans are out there for distribution.--The Cowboy General (talk) 16:46, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- For now, I'm going to have to say no, given that it currently doesn't meet the distribution requirement. We can revisit this later on should anything change though. --Funkychinaman (talk) 02:20, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think it would. Most of the content on there appears to be user created. The specific rule is "...if the title has not had a theatrical run or been broadcast on network television (anywhere in the world) the title must be available to the general public through recognized channels of commerce (Amazon, Blockbuster, Netflix, etc.). Self distribution via Amazon, home distribution or micro distribution websites do not qualify. (Anyone can sell their home made copies of their own film now so we must limit IMFDB to professionally distributed titles). Off Market channels of commerce only count if the film had an original theatrical or video distribution run and is no longer in print. If the page creator cannot provide proof of this upon demand, then the page does not qualify." I don't think this would qualify under that. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:03, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
So if it gets distributed on Amazon, then would it be ok? I thought the rule said as long as there was a way to purchase it, then it would qualify? Also, not trying to step out of line, but what will happen with creating pages for indie films as they are slowly starting to rise in popularity as Hollywood is starting to lose it's popularity slowly due to a multitude of reasons. --The Cowboy General (talk) 18:14, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
- We may need to update the rules a bit (I forgot we specified Blockbuster), but I believe the current distribution requirement should stay. There's so much media out there, it shouldn't be too hard to find eligible titles. Even if you wanted to just cover Custer, the only Custer related titles we have here are Night at the Museum and Little Big Man, and I know there's a lot more out there. --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:39, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
- Custers Strategy of Defeat is a documentary, hence not eligible for a page in IMFDB. Please see the Kickstarter page created by writer/director Chris Hoffert at [1] LJ (talk) 20:20, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
Great Sioux Massacre
Do you mean the Table of Contents? That's automatically generated. --Funkychinaman (talk) 22:16, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- To add: if you're having trouble making a page or don't know where to start, go to any popular movie page and just copy and paste the wikitext there to use as a template and swap out/edit information to suit your page as needed. Making IMFDB pages is not hard, it can just be time consuming, but I promise it is not difficult. If you can copy and paste, you're 90% of the way there. --PyramidHead (talk) 06:34, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
