Smith & Wesson Model 1000P Shotgun

The Model 1000P was the predecessor to the Model 3000 pump action shotgun. The P stood for pump and was to make sure folks did not confuse it with the Model 1000 semi auto shotgun that S&W was also selling. It appears that S&W marketed the Model 1000P briefly and then realized it was confusing consumers so they changed the model number on the pump action model to 3000. The Model 1000P/3000 pump action model was sold from 1980-1983. The Model 1000P is no different than the Model 3000. A well made shotgun. In many respects it's a copy of the Remington 870 only with some improvements. Both the Model 1000 semi-auto and the Model 3000 pump action were manufactured by Howa in Japan under contract to S&W. Howa makes a good product. For many years I owned one of the new Winchester Model 1895 rifles in 30-06. Made in the 90's by Howa for Winchester. Very good rifle. Hope this helps. --Jcordell (talk) 19:20, 12 February 2015 (EST)
