Matewan

I had to delete the page for Matewan since there was nothing there. Please refer to the IMFDB Style Guide for help on creating pages. You may also refer to the IMFDB Screencapping Guide for help on obtaining screencaps. Thanks. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:57, 6 April 2014 (EDT)

Thanks for your feedback. I am a first time contributor. I don't understand there being nothing there. I created a table with firearm, actor and scene populated with 4 actors their scenes and firearms. I marked it "incomplete" as per the rules with the intention that others would contribute. Matewan is a great film with many actors using many firearms of the period.

The table was certainly original, but it's not how we make pages. First day incomplete pages are basically asking others to do 90% of the work. Without screenshots, the only help we could provide is formatting, and the page would still be miles away from being finished. --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:18, 6 April 2014 (EDT)

I'm sorry for having created a problem. I intended to keep returning and improving as my site skills improved. I have ordered a copy of the film to get the screenshots which will take a few days. I'd like to try again, or maybe someone more experienced could start the page so I could add to their work.

I'll restore the page on the discussion page and you can work on it slowly. Like I said, check out the two guides above, they're written for new users such as yourself. You may also try out the templates page I'm working in. --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:34, 6 April 2014 (EDT)

Many thanks.

Please crop the black bars from your screencaps and reupload. Instructions are included in the screencapping guide linked above. Why are your screencaps in different aspect ratios? --Funkychinaman (talk) 04:25, 18 May 2014 (EDT)

OK, will fix now.

I have fixed the Matewan page for your future reference on the proper format of a movie page. You still need to crop off the black bars on the sides (Fast Stone Image Viewer is good for this). Also you can sign your posts by putting --~~~~ at the end of your message. --Ben41 (talk) 05:11, 18 May 2014 (EDT)

Many thanks for your patience. I have downloaded Fast Stone and I am cropping and re-uploading the images now.

Much better with the images. In the future, please also rename your screenshots to something shorter, preferably with the title of the media. Also, to sign, just include the symbols and not the "no wiki" parts. --Ben41 (talk) 05:23, 18 May 2014 (EDT)

Many thanks for your help. I've been struggling with Fast Stone Image Viewer but I think I've mastered it now. --686P (talk) 05:33, 18 May 2014 (EDT)

Would someone be able to help me match up the links between firearm model and other films please? --686P (talk) 06:41, 18 May 2014 (EDT)

Please double-check some of the firearms IDs. --Funkychinaman (talk) 01:52, 19 May 2014 (EDT)

Hi. Sid Hatfield, in reality, used Smith & Wesson .44 Hand Ejector revolvers (info from newsreels of the time). The movie has him using Colt DA's.

The Mauser action was used under licence by Springfield (provided triple locking for the bolt) in the M1903. I can't identify a Mauser without groove grip as in the Will Oldham shots. --686P (talk) 02:42, 19 May 2014 (EDT)

I'm aware of that, but it's clearly not a Springfield. We have an entire page of Mauser rifles for your perusal. --Funkychinaman (talk) 03:17, 19 May 2014 (EDT)

I've been through the site's Mauser Rifles again and not found a match. I'll just state it as Mauser. Perhaps you could lend your expertise and further define the model since my resources are exhausted. --686P (talk) 03:55, 19 May 2014 (EDT)

Did you see our suggestions regarding the revolvers? --Funkychinaman (talk) 04:39, 19 May 2014 (EDT)

I'm reviewing those now. --686P (talk) 05:07, 19 May 2014 (EDT)

Many thanks for your help so far.--686P (talk) 06:34, 19 May 2014 (EDT)

Hombre

Please crop the black bars from the screenshot you uploaded for Hombre. --Funkychinaman (talk) 02:49, 20 May 2014 (EDT)

Fixed now. I find that the movie page holds onto the uncropped photo even if a cropped version has subsequently been uploaded. Renaming the photo file fixes the problem. --686P (talk) 03:04, 20 May 2014 (EDT)

FYI: When cropping, please include the entire frame and don't cut off the actual framing of the screenshot. Also, when overwriting an image, the revised image takes some time to correct itself, so you need to change the "px" number from 600 to 601 to see your new revised screenshot. Don't upload a new image. I would recommend taking a look at the IMFDB Screencapping Guide and the IMFDB Style Guide for some more tips on building a proper page. --Ben41 (talk) 04:40, 20 May 2014 (EDT)

Many thanks for the tips. --686P (talk) 04:51, 20 May 2014 (EDT)
