Freedom Force is a superhero themed 2002 real time tactics video game by Irrational Games. In 1961 with the now elderly and retired Manhattan Project scientist Frank Stiles is relaxing in the park of Patriot City when he sees O'Conner, a former colleague he long suspected but could never prove was a Soviet asset, meeting with a shady character. Noticed as a witness, Frank Stiles is shot and left for dead, but with the last of his strength he reaches out towards a statue honoring the Minutemen of the American Revolution that is glowing with a strange energy. To his surprise, Stiles absorbs the energy and is not only healed of his wounds, but restored to youth and granted superpowers, inspiring him to adopt the costumed identity The Minuteman and track down O'Conner to settle his longstanding grudge with the traitor. The Minuteman quickly finds himself, center of a scheme by an intergalactic dictator's plot to grant Earth's worst people superpowers for his own amusement.
The 2005 sequel Freedom Force vs the 3rd Reich sees CIA deputy director Charles Wilson steal the body of a comatose time controlling supervillian and use it to travel back in time to 1943 so he can provide Nazi Germany with superpowers which will allow them to win World War II with him at the helm. Upon learning of this temporal meddling, Freedom Force follows the traitor back in time to stop him. Nearly all of the original game's art assets are included in the sequel for use in the Rumble Room skirmish mode and official modding tools, even if they don't appear in the official campaign.
M1911A1
Briefly seen in the tutorial, Patriot City's pistol packing thugs wield a chunky M1911A1. These enemies were more common in the original game, where they represented a wide variety of criminals. The "Police" character uses a different M1911A1. While unused in the campaign they frequently appeared in the original game as the police force of Patriot City.
Luger P08
The "Nazi General" foe (which is used to represent German officers of any rank) wield Luger P08s. Strangely the character editor and multiplayer name attacks using it as "Sauer 38H", an entirely separate pistol.
Webley & Scott Mark I
Unpowered British hero native to 1943 Blackjack uses a pistol that, while low detail, has the silhouette of a Webley & Scott Mk I.
MP40
Nazi Gunner enemies use MP40 SMGs. Unlike most World War II video games, these enemies are, correctly, relatively rare compared to those with bolt action rifles.
Charleville Musket
The statue which empowers Frank Stiles holds what can assumed to be a Charleville Musket due to its being a copy of Henry Hudson Kitson's The Lexington Minuteman.
Karabiner 98k
The common "Nazi Rifleman" enemies use Karabiner 98ks. American soldiers stationed in Guantanamo Bay in 1962 also use it in a case of model recycling.
Browning M1917
The mutant Nazi Gorilla soldiers known as "Kill-A-Rilla"s bizarrely carry American Browning M1917s. The existence of the rear mounting lug identifies them as Colt made examples.
Model 24 Stielhandgranate
"Nazi Grenadier" enemies use Model 24 Stielhandgranates for their "Potato Masher" attack. This is their only possible attack but they have unlimited ammo as long as their Energy is allowed to recharge.
Phalanx CIWS
Phalanx CIWS are unused in vs the 3rd Reich. In the original game, they were anachronistically present on a captured US nuclear aircraft carrier marked "NR-50" (which should designate a submarine) and depicted as autonomous weapons incorrectly labeled as "Turret".
