Burned my first powder at age 7, in a Winchester 68 boy's rifle. Graduated soon after to a Stevens bolt-action .410 bore shotgun, with which I killed both my first squirrel and first rabbit. After gaining some size, I began using my father's Browning "Double Automatic" 12 gauge. In the Marine Corps, I used the M16-A2 rifle, and scored Expert with it every time I went to the range...I regret not having tried out for the USMC shooting team. My first job after leaving the Corps was as a driver & guard for Brink's Armored Car Service, for which I carried a stainless, double-action-only Smith & Wesson Model 64-5 in .38 Special, loaded with +P semi-wadcutters and fitted by me with an aftermarket finger-grooved grip. Here and there along the way, I fired an assortment of other guns, including .357, .380, .44, .45 (auto in a Colt 1911 and .440 round ball in a CVA Kentucky Rifle), the most exotic of which was a MAC-11 machine pistol. Hard times forced me to sell all but a few of my collection, but I still retain the Winchester boy's rifle and my Dad's Browning for sentimental value, plus an EAA Windicator in .357 for home defense, and a CZ 24 .380 that was a WWII trophy, given to my father by a veteran friend.
