The Way of the Gun Christopher McQuarrie , the Academy Award-winning writer of The Usual Suspects Benicio del Toro , Ryan Phillippe , James Caan , Juliette Lewis , Taye Diggs and Nicky Katt . Although the film was not a huge box office success, it has since garnered a cult status.

Pistols Colt MK IV Series 70 Government Model Mr. Longbaugh (Benicio del Toro ) and Mr. Parker (Ryan Phillippe ) use Colt Series 70 Government Model pistols as their main handguns. Used throughout the movie. Unlike most films where handguns are "Mexican carried", they carry theirs in IWB holsters which is a much safer and smarter way to carry. The Colts used in the film are 9mm caliber noted by the tapered barrels and crimp indention in the magazines.

S&W Model 640 Centennial Joe Sarno (James Caan ) carries a Smith & Wesson Model 640 Centennial as his weapon of choice.

Unidentified revolvers Abner Mercer (Geoffrey Lewis ) loads up six revolvers each with one round and puts them in a bag to select one to kill himself with.

Not to be confused with the more common Mossberg 500 Mariner.

Although Taye Diggs is right handed, the weapons advisor for the film (Chris McQuarrie's brother, a Navy SEAL) said that if you're using a building on your right as cover you would shoot left handed, which minimizes your body exposure and makes you less of a target. Robin (Juliette Lewis ) grabs the shotgun and turns the tables on them.
