The Inspector Lynley Mysteries is a British detective TV series based on the works and characters by Elizabeth George. The protagonists are aristocratic, polished Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley (Nathaniel Parker) and Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers (Sharon Small), a working-class background pugnacious woman. Despite numerous clashes, they form a successful team.
The following weapons were used in the television series The Inspector Lynley Mysteries:
In the climactic scene in "In the Guise of Death" (S04E02), Lady Sarah Keach (Stella Gonet) holds a Colt Detective Special 3rd Gen revolver.
Unidentified revolver
Peter Rooker (Richard Copestake) owns an illegally purchased revolver in "In the Blink of an Eye" (S05E04). The revolver is seen only in the evidence bag when it is found by police near dead Rooker. During the investigation, the revolver is described as a Smith & Wesson.
Pistols
Glock 17
Armed Response Team officers are armed with Glock 17 pistols (really the most commonly issued pistol among the British police forces) in "Payment in Blood" (S01E02), "In Divine Proportion" (S04E01), and "One Guilty Deed" (S05E02).
Umarex Walther CP88
An Umarex Walther CP88 air pistol is used to shoot at Helen Lynley's car in "If Wishes Were Horses" (S03E04). The air pistol is correctly described as such. The shooter is disclosed in the final scene, but he isn't shown with the gun in hands thus isn't mentioned here.
Browning Hi-Power
In the flashback scene in "One Guilty Deed" (S05E02), a mob hitman fires a suppressed handgun, supposedly a Browning Hi-Power, from a car.
Beretta 92F
Simon Henshaw (Rupert Procter) is armed with a Beretta 92F pistol in "One Guilty Deed" (S05E02).
Luger P08
A Luger P08 is the murder weapon in "In the Blink of an Eye" (S05E04). A Luger is also seen in a flashback scene of the Bosnian war in the same episode.
M1911 style pistol
Nina Delic (Ania Sowinski) holds an unidentified nickel plated pistol in several scenes in "In the Blink of an Eye" (S05E04). It is supposed to be a compact M1911 style pistol.
Submachine Guns
Heckler & Koch MP5A3
Armed Response Team officers are armed with Heckler & Koch MP5A3 SMGs with forend weaponlights and sighting devices in the final scene in "Payment in Blood" (S01E02). In "In Divine Proportion" (S04E01), "Word of God" (S04E04) and "One Guilty Deed" (S05E02), Armed Response Team officers carry MP5A3 SMGs without weaponlights and sighting devices.
Heckler & Koch MP5A2
One of the Armed Response Team officers in "In Divine Proportion" (S04E01) holds a Heckler & Koch MP5A2.
Sa 25/26
In a flashback scene of the Bosnian war in "In the Blink of an Eye" (S05E04), one of the Serbian militants carries a submachine gun. This is a model with the pistol grip used as the magazine housing, and it seems to have tubular slide. Sa 25 or Sa 26 seems to be a good guess.
Shotguns
Over and Under Shotgun
Philip Weaver (Tim Pigott-Smith) holds an Over and Under Shotgun in the climactic scene in "For The Sake Of Elena" (S01E03). In the same episode a photo of Justine Weaver (Sophie Ward) shows her with an O/U shotgun in hands. Juliet Spence (Pippa Haywood) holds an O/U shotgun in "Missing Joseph" (S01E04).
Double Barreled Shotgun
Philip Turner (Richard Armitage) uses a Double Barreled Shotgun for skeet shooting in "In Divine Proportion" (S04E01). Pat Garratt (Jimmy Yuill) holds a shotgun in the climactic scene of the same episode. Owen Harcourt-Baines (George Costigan) owns a shotgun in "Natural Causes" (S05E01). Sam Oborne (Nicholas Farrell) holds a shotgun in "Limbo" (S06E01).
Rifles
Lever Action (?) Hunting Rifle
In the final scene in "If Wishes Were Horses" (S03E04), Grace Finnegan (Jemma Redgrave) takes a hunting rifle with sniper scope that belonged to her late husband. The rifle is seen only partially, it has the underbarrel tube magazine, the octagonal barrel and the loading gate on the side of the receiver. Most likely this some lever action model, although the lever itself isn't seen. As the rifle is claimed to be a rabbit gun, possibly this is a small caliber model, but the octagonal barrel is more common for more heavy guns that the ones chambered in .22.
Mauser 98 Sporter
A bolt action sniper rifle is seen in a flashback scene of the Bosnian war in "In the Blink of an Eye" (S05E04). A kind of Mauser 98 Sporter seems to be a good guess. As Crvena Zastava gun factory produced a number of Mauser 98 based hunting rifles, such gun fits quite well for the events of the Bosnian war.
Tanegashima Arquebus
What appears to be a Tanegashima arquebus is briefly seen in the museum in "Word of God" (S04E04).
Assault Rifles
AK style assault rifle
Some version of AK-47 is seen in a flashback scene of the Bosnian war in "In the Blink of an Eye" (S05E04). The exact model is unclear although it is definitly used to represent the most common Zastava M70. The screen gun lacks the slanted muzzle compensator, like it was on the early version of M70.
AKS style assault rifle
In the same flashback scene in "In the Blink of an Eye" (S05E04), an AKS-47 style assault rifle is also seen.
Other Weapons
Flare Rocket
DS Barbara Havers (Sharon Small) shoots a flare rocket in the climactic scene in "Deception On His Mind" (S02E04).
Water Guns
When a group of animal rights activists attack Miriam Whitelaw, the head of pharmaceutical company, in "Playing For The Ashes" (S02E01), they carry squirt water guns loaded with dyed water. Some of these guns look quite realistic, resembling real pistols, shotguns and submachine guns. These are probably battery powered devices, like the ones by LJN Entertech, one of the famous (or infamous, depends from the point of view) brands of such realistic water guns. Other guns look like sci-fi multi-barrel weapons. They are most likely one of Larami Super Soaker models, only painted in black instead of bright colour scheme.
Trivia
Obice da 105/22 Mod. 14/61
In the scene set in Rome in "Limbo" (S06E01), a midday cannon on the Janiculum (Gianicolo Hill) is seen firing. This cannon is the only exemplar of an Obice da 105/22 Mod. 14/61 howitzer, still remaining in service. These howitzers were former Austro-Hungarian 10 cm Mod. 14/16, obtained by Italy during and after WWI and extensively modified in 1950s by adding circular shooting platform, pneumatic wheels and a gun shield taken from British Ordnance QF 25-pounder gun. In 1961 the howitzer was again modified by lengthening the barrel and rechambering for standard NATO 105 mm ammunition, thus creating the 105/22 Mod. 14/61 model.
Portable Battering Ram
In "Word of God" (S04E04), one of the Armed Response Team officers carries a portable battering ram during the operation against people traffickers.
Sea King Helicopter
A Royal Navy Westland Sea King HAR.5 search and rescue helicopter is seen in "A Suitable Vengeance" (S02E03) during the search of a person, missing on seacoast.
