The Great Race
|
The Great Race is a 1965 adventure comedy film directed by Blake Edwards and centers around participants in a car race from New York to Paris during the early part of the 20th century. The adventurer The Great Leslie (Tony Curtis), always dressed in a white suit and groomed, convinces an automaker that a race from New York to Paris, westward, would be a great marketing proposition for the auto trade. His arch-rival, the mustachioed, dressed all-black Professor Fate (Jack Lemmon), bets he'll be faster than Leslie in a car he designed himself. The other competitors, including a cunning reporter and women's rights activist Maggie DuBois (Natalie Wood), play in the race not a too big role. The film was one of the most expensive comedies made at the time of its release.
