The Crown Prince is a 2006 television film that deals with the last ten years of the life of the Austrian Crown Prince Rudolf von Habsburg. Austria 1879: With his liberal political visions of a united Europe, the young Crown Prince Rudolf is an outsider at the court of Emperor Franz-Joseph. But in his private life, too, the heir to the throne struggles in vain for the affection of his conservative father. Under pressure from his parents, Rudolf agrees to a marriage of convenience with Stephanie of Belgium for political reasons. But his true love belongs to another woman: the young baroness Mary Vetsera.
The 1968 movie Mayerling tells a similar story in which Omar Sharif alongside Catherine Deneuve and James Mason , embodies the crown prince Rudolf.
