Template talk:AK

So how you want to do this template? Include only true AK-pattern guns (like on wikipedia), or include guns like the VSS too, which only look like AK variants, but in reality have nothing to do with that design? --bozitojugg3rn4ut 14:06, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

Maybe 2 sections. 1 that contains true AKs and 1 that contains AK "look alikes"? --Zackmann08 14:29, 26 June 2012 (CDT)
I would separate them along similar lines as the AK gallers, with "Soviet manufactured Kalashnikov pattern firearms" "Foreign manufactured Kalashnikov pattern firearms" "Firearms derived from the Kalashnikov" and "Firearms visually resembling the Kalashnikov". First section would be the russian weapons, separated into assault rifles, carbines, machine guns and sniper rifles. Then next section would be split up by country. Not sure whether to split each section by weapon type or not, would need to play it by ear depending on how many you were ending up with. If not splitting by type, could put the weapon type in brackets after the name. It gets a bit tricky when you get into AK derived, and visually resembling the AK as there can be a fine line. For example, the I would put the SVD in the visually similar, as it shares no parts with the AK and has a different operating system. However the visually similar FPK/PSL is derived from the RPK, so would go in the AK derivatives section. Stuff like the Valmet (and hence the Galil and Vektor rifles) would go in the derivatives section, as although not of the AK pattern they are a modification to the design. But that's just my opinion on how it should be broken down. --commando552 15:23, 26 June 2012 (CDT)
I LIKE this idea!!! --Zackmann08 15:25, 26 June 2012 (CDT)
One small modification to my previous idea, probably best to combine the first two section into "Kalashnikov pattern firearms" and split by country with the first being Soviet/Russian, and then each country by weapon type. This way the section would line up better and look neater. --commando552 15:40, 26 June 2012 (CDT)
I am going to totally defer to your knowledge here. I know the coding, you guys know the guns. Do what you think is best. :-) --Zackmann08 16:44, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

Bizon

I just realised the Izhmash PP-19 Bizon isn't on here, and I think it probably should be. Only problem is where to put it. I'm currently leaning towards putting it in the "AK pattern" rather than "visually resembling" section as it is actually built an a shortened AK-74 receiver and uses AK-74 stock, grip, trigger pack and rear sight (AKS-74U), so it is in effect just a rechambered AK-74 with a funky magazine. Anyone else have an opinion on this? --commando552 15:13, 2 July 2012 (CDT)

I would put it in the AK Pattern section, it was made by Izhmash after all. They just tweaked the good old recipe. --bozitojugg3rn4ut 03:23, 3 July 2012 (CDT)
