Tell England
|
Tell England (also known as The Battle of Gallipoli in the U.S.) is a 1931 British war drama movie directed by Anthony Asquith and Geoffrey Barkas. It is based on the novel Tell England by Ernest Raymond. The friends Rupert Ray (Tony Bruce) and Edgar Doe (Carl Harbord) join the British army and take part in the fighting at Gallipoli.
The following weapons were used in the film Tell England:
Revolvers
Webley Mk. VI
British officers and Edgar Doe (Carl Harbord) use Webley Mk VI revolvers.
Rifles
Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III*
British and ANZAC soldiers are seen with Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III* rifles.
Mauser Karabiner 98AZ
Some Turkish soldiers use Mauser 98AZ Carbines during the landing at "V" Beach and the last battle. This is anachronistic because the German Empire delivered their Mauser rifles to the Ottomans only towards the end of the war. So the Kar. 98 AZ maybe stands for the Turkish Mauser 1905 Carbine.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
Turkish soldiers also use incorrect Mauser Gewehr 1898 rifles during the Gallipoli campaign instead of accurate Turkish 1893 and 1903 Mauser rifles.
Machine Guns
Vickers Mk. I
The Vickers machine gun is used by British and Turkish soldiers. The smooth and ribbed versions are both seen. The Vickers stands for the Maxim MG08 that were actually used by the Ottoman Army.
Grenades
No. 15 Hand Grenade "Ball"
Rupert Ray (Tony Bruce) and Edgar Doe (Carl Harbord) use No. 15 Hand Grenades.
Other
Cannon
Turkish soldiers are seen with a breechloading cannon during the landing.
