Talk:The Man in the High Castle - Season 3
Alternate history weapons
Am I thinking that in this timeline, the G3 wouldn't exist in its current form because they won the war and the 7.62 was not forced upon NATO by the US. I think the Germans would have refined the kurz round in the STG44s and would have replaced all frontline bolt action rifles with those guns and later the G3 would be more like the G33 series but instead of 5.56, it'd be a German round. I'm thinking the CAL might be a thin since Belgium is under NAZI rule and all their weapon designs would have fallen into German hands
I also think that the Japanese would have eventually adopted a rifle like the Garand and before they lost, they were interested in a repeating rifle and had several prototypes, including one based on the Garand but chambered in their caliber.

- I no longer think it makes sense to look for any logic here. Especially if you take into account what its creators, is tries to persistently “gather additionally” the DDR and communistic China (in the form of Japan, oh yeah) where it does not make sense. --Slon95 (talk) 17:33, 8 March 2019 (EST)
Considering that in reality war shortages forced the Germans to develop the STG45 and the Volkssturmgewehr, it is safe to assume that if they have won the war that wouldn't have been needed. Being victorious and having abundant resources probably would have resulted in them continuing to use and develop the STG44. But I suppose that the use of the G3 was meant to convey the progress of technology after the war, you know if they simply gave them STGs in the supposedly more advanced 60s the audience would have cringed at the supposedly advanced Germans using "obsolete" WW2 weaponry. --Nanomat (talk) 17:46, 8 March 2019 (EST)
- My headcannon for the G3s and Howa Type 64s in this universe is that they are chambered in their nation's rifle/MG caliber (7.92x57mm and 6.5x50mmSR respectively), and that the G3 came about from the logical evolution from the StG 45 -> CETME Rifle -> G3. Then the Howa rifle was created when the Imperial Japanese saw the new 'space rifles' the Nazis were using and went like 'Holy onigiris, we need new rifles!'. Where they got the design for the Type 64 rifle however would be a riddle for the ages in this continuity; I choose to believe that they magically picked it up from the Black Ops Zombies' Mystery Box. --SSgt LuLZ (talk) 15:12, 10 March 2019 (GMT)
- There's a fuck ton of weapons that shouldn't exist in this alternate timeline like an SVD in the previous season. The MP5 makes sense though it would have been nice to see them with straight mags. I think it would make sense that the Japanese would be using captured American weapons because soldiers during the war did like to use captured Garands. Also remember in season 1 where the Germans are still using MP40s and 98Ks? My head cannon is that the Germans would have developed Assault Rifles in smaller calibers instead of guns like the G3 because the German military has always tried to go behind Hitler's back in developing tech, which is how the MP44 came into existence. I personally think it would be interesting if the Japs use M16s in response to the German's newer weapons. They captured America and the AR-15 was developed in California during the 50s. Despite being harsh rulers over America, it would be interesting if the Japanese military reached out to find better tech to match the Germans and what better people than the Americans, who hate them just as much as they do Excalibur01 (talk) 21:09, 10 July 2019 (EDT)
