Unknown Revolver?
An officer fires an unknown Revolver. A much larger version of this image can be viewed herein, thanks for that. Confirm or dismiss, but I believe it's a Tranter revolver c. 1885 and thus authentic to the era of the story. Compare it with whatever images of a Tranter you can find. You'll find specs in wikipedia.
Unknown rifles
Could they be Lee-Enfield Mk 1s? Spartan198 (talk) 23:11, 18 February 2017 (EST)
- Don't think so, all of the Lee rifles have a semi pistol grip on the stock, whereas this one looks to be straight. As it appears to have an external magazine, I would take a guess at it being one of the earlier Mauser rifles like the 1888. Or it could be a Turkish M1890 like the other rifle in the film, just without the 38 stock. --commando552 (talk) 06:11, 19 February 2017 (EST)
- The arsenal of these troops are pretty bizarre, Swiss rifles and random Mausers. I doubt that any of the rifles are Lee-Enfields, the unknown rifles the soldiers are carrying while guarding Rom have slab-side magazines and a Gewehr 98 style tack in the stock. I'm guessing they were trying to find as many pre-1900 bolt action rifles and had to improvise using Turk Mauser 88/05/35. It would explain the lack of the correct Belgian Mausers as those are very hard to find, especially when filming in location. -- PaperCake 12:23, 19 Februrary 2017 (EST)
