Talk:The Last Samurai
Are we Sure Cruise has a Single Action Army? It looks like it might be an open top model, possibly an 1860 Cartridge Conversion.--68.102.156.139 22:49, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like you're right, I just looked it up and I found this gun called a 1860 Colt Army Revolver, it looks similar to a Single Action Army, but dosen't have the top part. When I saw it in the movie, I assumed it was an old fashion version of the SAA.
- Its definitely a Colt cap and ball revolver converted for cartridges. In the picture in the article you can clearly see there's no top strap, and a plunger instead of the loading lever. If someone can find some screen-shots with a side view we might be able to figure out whether its an 1851, 1860 or 1861.--68.102.156.139 19:52, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- You're right.
- I would say you're right, it is the revolver you talked about. There are a few other scenes with it, but they're very brief. I'll fix the article right now.
1877
- Initially I was hoping to see some Murata Rifles, but apparently the film takes place in 1876-1877 since it's based on the historical Satsuma Rebellion led by Saigō Takamori. The Type 13 Murata wasn't adopted until after 1880 but it looks VERY similar to the 1871 Mauser (at a glance). :D MoviePropMaster2008 (talk) 23:42, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
Cutlery
- Maybe it is misinterpreted, but the F in IMFDB stands for Firearms, not cutlery. Unless the knife is very important to the main character or placed in discussion, we list guns here, not swords. - Gunmaster45
- Perhaps you'd like to explain to me then why rocket launchers and various explosive devices are named, then? They are definitely NOT guns.
- because its imfdb not imgdb a rocket launcher is still a firearm
Yeah come on can someone name the swords used as the film is called the last samurai and the swords are more concentrated on than guns
just for the sake p.s i know we all are gun nuts but the modern warfare 2 page even has the throwing knives listed
I'll admit the swords of the main characters do shine during the fight scenes, but what is the point? Put a section that saids, "this is a katana, a very well crafted piece of tempered steel and can cut through a person with almost no resistance at all" ? I mean, they are swords...what more can you find out about them? They don't get reused in other movies or have long histories, or even matter. The "hero" sword Cruise used is probably in the hand of a collector and hundreds of copies are made and sold everyday. I mean, Katana, Wakazaki, tanto, bayonets. No point. - And yet that doesn't stop the number of numerous pages that include modern knives from movies. And honestly, you saying "what's the difference" in bladed weaponry is pretty much the same thing as someone saying "what's the difference" between one pistol and the other. Surely you would jump at that opportunity to exert your expertise on the subject to explain EXACTLY what the difference is, so don't be ignorant and pull that with bladed weaponry. Honestly imfdb can easily become imwdb and then it can cover ALL weapons in movies. I'm actually surprised it doesn't. 75.74.188.74 02:23, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- Because there are so many variations of a Katana, spear, and dagger in the movie. It would literally fill up several pages. We got the "Rambo" knife because that's just one knife and it has a history and fame. When someone see Rambo's knife, they'll recognize it. If they see a Katana from Last Samurai, they'd just say. Oh a Japanese sword. There's no point in putting any of the swords in the main page. Perhaps in the discussion page like some of the pages where we got cars and The Punisher has knives in discussion page, but they also have good descriptions as well Excalibur01 03:42, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Continuity error
I started to wonder on why does Cruise have 2 different revolvers when it only appears he had one holster to his side. He pulls the Colt Army during the training scene and then suddenly it's a Schofield? Excalibur01 07:58, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Mauser M1871/84
Did you morons ever think it may be the 71 model Mauser? How can you tell it's an 84? -Anonymous User 67.163.10.110
- Hey User 67.163.10.110, you may want to dial back on that attitude, or you may be on the receiving end of the "ban stick"! MoviePropMaster2008 03:54, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
