Talk:Star 1911 Series

Is the Star Model S really rare or something? It hasn't been in any movie I've seen, there are no videos of anyone using one on YouTube, and I can't even find a really decent picture of one on Google or Yahoo search. Wasn't it the official sidearm of the Spanish Legion? User: 2wingo

Other Variants

As we get more pics of the various Star model pistols, we may find that these are appearing more in films, especially ones from Europe.

Star BKS Starlight - A lightweight alloy frame Star BK - 9x19mm
I'm no expert on these Star pistols so might be wrong, but I do not think that this is a BKS. There is now a picture of a BKS on the main page and there are several differences, most notably the slide serrations and the shape of the front slide scallop (the safety is also a very different shape but this isn;t visible on the main page image, google it to see what I mean). Also, I don't think it is right that the BKS is a "A lightweight alloy frame Star BK", as I think the "K" signifies alloy (same as on the Star Model 30) so it would be BS, but I do not think a full steel version of this particular model existed anyway. Anybody know for sure? For whatever reason searching for BKS also seems to bring up a lot of what look like BM/BKMs, did they change the design at some point to make the guns identical or something? --commando552 (talk) 18:14, 28 February 2016 (EST)
Star PD Nickel custom - .45 ACP

Do we have to call these the "1911" series?

Because they are not especially like a Colt 1911. Even the P (the .45 frame size) has zero interchangeable parts with the Colt. They don't fit into 1911 holsters especially well. Don't take 1911 mags. Etc.

So while they are stylistically similar, they are not clones in remotely the sense that a Ballester–Molina is a knockoff with many similarities.

Over at star-firearms.com I just decided long ago to call them the "Classic" series, and no one has ever objected to that, even the factory back when Star existed and sent me info occasionally. So while not official, it isn't an awful name.

Discuss as you wish.

Calling them a 1911 series is imperfect but it comes from the Star Model B being used in movies as stand ins for the accurate .45 autos, so I can't really give a good opinion either way but it does help to immediately distinguish them from later Star pistols very well for the sake of Identifying movie firearms. I'd be in favor of keeping it as is, the aesthetics match the M1911 very well and it doesn't particularly do any harm. That said Classic Series could work better due to the different models of Star pistols that just don't match up with the M1911. It really was only the Model B that was used, and it doesn't make particular sense to group all the rest in with it. Black Irish Paddy (talk) 16:54, 7 November 2018 (EST)
