Colt "Commando"

While it's probably more accidental than intentional, the AR-15 is essentially a Colt Model 605 with the addition of A2 handguards.

Colt Model 605 - 5.56x45mm

The game's gun (the same thing also appears in San Andreas) looks like a regular M16A2 to me, the short barrel is just a typical GTA style poor model rendition. --Nanomat (talk) 17:53, 2 January 2019 (EST)
We need an image of the other side of the in-game gun (the one in the page is mirrored) to confirm whether it has a forward assist and/or a case deflector or not. --Ultimate94ninja (talk) 18:31, 2 January 2019 (EST)
This is because it is in itself poorly modeled. Textures taken from Colt Commando (in SA uses is another, solid "dirty" black texture), but the rifle itself is modeled disproportionately, and with a folding "skeleton" buttstock texture, superimposed on a "solid" fixed M16-pattern buttstock. --Slon95 (talk) 18:57, 2 January 2019 (EST)
Since I don't have the game, I downloaded a skin replacement for GTA Vice City's "M4" that turns it into Manhunt's AR-15. For starters, the weapon is mirrored, so we can't see the components that I previously mentioned. Anyway, here's a couple of images:

Not only it lacks the Model 605's 3 prong flash hider (as well as having the barrel extend slightly past the front sight), but also while the general shape of the carrying handle is close to an A1, I'm pretty sure its textures attempt to make it look like an A2. IMO we should ID the weapon as an M16A2 with a shortened barrel and without a bayonet lug - assuming that the model in the images that I provided is truly the one used in Manhunt). --Ultimate94ninja (talk) 19:12, 3 January 2019 (EST)
I would say that perhaps they've done a STALKER and modelled it based on a gun with a muzzle protector fitted, so I wouldn't say the hider is necessarily proof of ID. Evil Tim (talk) 02:44, 4 January 2019 (EST)
Fair enough, but there's still the fact that the carrying handle's texture seems to include an A2-style (and pretty bulky) elevation adjustment knob (or it's just some poor texturing), along with the barrel extending past the front sight. Anyway, any other opinions? --Ultimate94ninja (talk) 18:18, 30 April 2019 (EDT)
OK, here is the actual texture of this (with additional x2 upscale). --Slon95 (talk) 18:48, 16 May 2020 (EDT)

Oh well... the weird thing is that this texture shows a removable carrying handle like an M16A4, but this is barely visible on the weapon itself due to poor modeling. --Ultimate94ninja (talk) 11:28, 22 May 2020 (EDT)
Pretty obvious that the texture is taken from M4A1. --Slon95 (talk) 19:55, 20 October 2021 (EDT)

I think I got it. The way the carry handle texture is chopped in such a way as to have the thumb nuts removed, the collapsible stock reshaped into a fixed one and the elongated handguard makes it an M16A2. As for the short barrel, it appears to be due to recycling the barrel directly from the original texture which itself actually appears to be an 11.5" M933 as can be seen in Manhunt 2 where the unmodified original texture is used (though the thumb nuts are also removed here effectively making it an M733). Further evidence is that in the game manual it is described as having 990mm total length and 533mm barrel length which is more in line with M16 parameters. The flash hider might be from Non Gun replica but I'd say it's rather just an OG rockstar-ification. --Nanomat (talk) 21:50, 7 November 2021 (EST)
