Talk:Courage Under Fire
Re: A wounded Captain Walden lies with Monfriez's FN C9. You will note that there is a green 200 round drum attached indicating blank cartridges. A black drum would indicate live 4 ball 1 tracer (4B1T). Her Beretta is also visible. Having served in the US Army, every blank drum I used was black, and every live drum was green.
Fake Abrams
It looks like the fake Abrams has a fake CITV (the round thing in front of the loader's hatch.) That means it's supposed to be a fake M1A2, which weren't produced until after the war. --Funkychinaman 21:07, 4 July 2011 (CDT)
- I think it's actually supposed to be a spare half-roadwheel. Tamiya's M1A1 Abrams with mine plough tells you to put a roadwheel half right there: image of this. Evil Tim 21:52, 4 July 2011 (CDT)
- Evil Tim is right, it's a spare road wheel. ----X-Ray Bravo 6 01:24, 5 July 2011 (CDT)
"Fake" AH-1 Cobras"
I think these are the same machines you seen in movies like "The Rock" which are, in fact, AH-1 airframes with all the weapons/weapons mounts removed. I remember seeing an article on a "news magazine" show which discussed sales of military surplus gear to civilians including the Cobras. The guy who bought them was able to buy the mounting brackets for the TOW system despite them not, supposedly being openly available. The point is the M197 cannon are probably mock ups as well. --Charon68 19:55, 19 October 2011 (CDT)
M16 sound
The first group of men that Serling interviewed said that an M16 has a distinctive sound over other weapons. Is this true or just movie fiction?--Rpphil96 (talk) 20:34, 3 July 2015 (EDT)
- So, years-late reply because I've only finally seen this (excellent) movie, but the Blackhawk crew member specifically says "Nothing else sounds like an M16, not no AK or M60", and to emphasize this a pair of three-round bursts are overlaid for emphasis. It doesn't seem at all unreasonable to me that one would be able to tell a 5.56mm rifle being fired from a 7.62mm AK or full-power 7.62mm M60, and though the (also 5.56mm) M249 being there seems like it may detract from the argument, I do feel that even though the actual prop was using an A1 lower and thus longer full auto bursts, the inclusion of the burst audio over the interview scene speaks to writer intent. The way it's treated as "clearly" being an M16 does make sense to me, considering they should have been hearing a lighter-calibre 5.56mm rifle firing in only three-round bursts, making it rather definitively an M16.
