Unfortunately it wouldn't work as well for AKs. The reason I could do it (and also the reason AR-15s can be confusing and why I felt it should be done) in this case is that there are a large number of variants made with different combinations of the same parts. With AKs, this is not really the case. A guide of sorts could be written, but it wouldn't be able to have the table like this one as there aren't really standard parts, is more like "this one has a grenade sight" or "that one has a curved bit on the end of the the stock" which would probably be better incorporated into the descriptions on the individual gun entries. --commando552 16:54, 25 March 2012 (CDT)

A notation should probably be made that IMFDB refers to certain models by their model numbers (e.g., Model 727) rather than generic terms like "M16A2 carbine", which would technically refer to any AR carbine with an A2 receiver. Spartan198 02:00, 26 March 2012 (CDT)

I've added the notation in at the top that the text in bold id the preferred name that the weapon goes by. It used to say that when this was a WIP on my user page but forgot to copy it across. Just to clarify, the "names" for the rifles are what Colt calls them, so there are a few that don't make much sense, for example there is the Model 711 which is a Colt made A1 with A2 furniture which they advertised as a rugged and simple version of the M16A2 (it doesn't even use the A2 lower, it is just an A1 they slapped new furniture on to get rid of their stock of A1 receivers and sold them on the cheap to other countries). I didn't add this one though, as I imagine that all of the A1s with A2 handguards in film are exactly that, rather than these comparatively rare export only rifles. --commando552 10:45, 26 March 2012 (CDT)

On the Model 933, it says that the stock used is as follows:

3rd gen. collapsible (early) 3rd gen. collapsible (late)

Would adding some of the more notable third-party stock designs like the Magpul MOE, CTR, or PRS stocks be acceptable? They are quite commonplace nowadays; it's not uncommon to see about as many CTR-equipped M4's in a given unit as there are GI-issue 3rd & 4th-gen collapsible stocks (sometimes moreso depending on the particular unit). The only gund I included on this were AR-15s made by Colt, if this included other manufactures I would have no hope of being able to get it anywhere near complete. Therefore the only parts I listed are those that come on Colt factory rifles. As far as I know the only factory Colt rifle that comes with anything apart from standard M4/M16 stocks are the SCW which has a special collapsible/folding buttstock, and CM901 (which I didn't include as it isn't really an AR-15) which a VLTOR IMOD. The only exception is the special series of 6920 rifles (Model 6920MB-B/OD/FDE depending on the colour) with Magpul furniture. As this rifle has been used in stuff it could be added and hence the Magpul MOE, but that is the only non-Colt stock that should appear on this page. If we wanted to make a page that listed all of the different AR-15 accessories that have appeared with pictures to aid in ID'ing them that is another story, but this page is only to do with the Colt variants. --commando552 (talk) 05:37, 19 November 2013 (EST)

Detachable carry handles

I slightly altered the wording here to reflect that most, but not all, detachable carry handles are of the A2 design. Diemaco/Colt Canada does make a detachable carry handle with A1 sights for the C7 and C8 flat top versions, and I've seen a number of custom-made jobs online as well.
