Rifle ID
From what I can find online, the weapon used in real life was a Bushmaster XM15. Can anyone tell if the weapon in the film is actually a Bushmaster XM15? It's got an adjustable stock, but with a full 20 inch barrel. It's also got a railed handguard, bipod and holographic sight. --Funkychinaman (talk) 05:15, 29 January 2014 (EST)
- Not sure if it's a Bushmaster; that would depend on receiver markings. The real-life XM15 used by the shooters appears to have had a 16" barrel, not 20" (I imagine 20" would have been too long given the trunk dimensions of the Caprice that they used). It was also a post-ban model with no flash hider (since this was 2002 and the Assault Weapons Ban hadn't ended yet), whereas that rifle has a flash hider. Still, this is a reasonably accurate depiction of the weapon. I remember that there was a made-for-TV movie about the incident called DC Sniper: 23 Days of Fear starring Charles Dutton and Bobby Hosea where the killers' AR-15 was actually a mil-spec, select-fire M4A1 that had some huge sniper scope rather than a Holosight. -MT2008 (talk) 01:04, 2 February 2014 (EST)
- I had long assumed they had some sort of scope as well. It wasn't until I was reading up on it last year that I realized it was just a holosight. --Funkychinaman (talk) 02:23, 2 February 2014 (EST)
- Since we don't really know, I'll just put it as an AR-15 variant. Netflix didn't have a BD of it when it came out last month, but that may change. We may get more details then. --Funkychinaman (talk) 02:37, 2 February 2014 (EST)

- BTW, here is an even better view of the real-life Bushmaster used by the killers. You can see it actually didn't have a railed hand guard at all (since those were not all that common on the civilian market in 2002), just a low-profile gas block with rails. -MT2008 (talk) 14:36, 2 February 2014 (EST)

Here is a link to the made-for-TV movie DC Sniper: 23 Days of Fear in case anyone is interested in watching and comparing that movie to this one. -MT2008 (talk) 12:05, 3 February 2014 (EST)
