Sweeney 2 is a 1978 British crime movie, a spin-off from The Sweeney TV series (1975-1978) and a sequel for 1977 Sweeney!. The film is directed by Tom Clegg and starring John Thaw as Detective Inspector Jack Regan and Dennis Waterman as Detective Sergeant George Carter, the detectives of the Flying Squad (nicknamed 'Sweeney'), a branch of the London's Metropolitan Police Service with the main purpose to response armed crimes. Regan and Carter investigate a series of bank raids by a team of armed robbers. The trails lead the detectives far from London - to Malta.

In the climactic scene The Flying Squad officers, including George Carter (Dennis Waterman), Llewellyn (Derrick O'Connor), Tom Daniels (John Alkin), Jellyneck (James Warrior) and Goodyear (David Casey), are armed with snub nose revolvers. These guns are seen very briefly and in distance.
The gang boss Frank Hill (Ken Hutchison) uses a "gold-plated sawed-off Purdey shotgun", as he describes his weapon to a victim. The gun has shortened barrels and intact buttstock. After Hill accidentally looses his weapon, he saws the barrels of another shotgun of same model (see below). Both screen guns are hardly genuine production of James Purdey & Sons as such guns are too expensive to cut off their barrels for filming. More common sawed-off shotguns without any special finish are used by Will White (Brian Gwaspari) and Jefferson (Matthew Scurfield) in several robberies.
In the scene on the beach on Malta, Hill (Ken Hutchison) holds a standard, not sawed-off gold plated Double Barreled Shotgun. Later he saws the barrels of this gun too.
A sawed-off single barreled shotgun is used by the gang in several heists. During one of the heists it is held by Jefferson (Matthew Scurfield), and in another heist it is seen in hands of Haughton (Brian Hall). White (Brian Gwaspari) holds the same gun when the police finds him and Hill in a hotel.
During the bomb incident in a hotel, Doyle (Michael O'Hagan), the commander of the Armed Response Unit, holds a pump action shotgun. The gun seems to have an external hammer, so Winchester Model 1897 is a likely guess.
During the final heist of the gang, Mead (John Lyons) is armed with a Winchester M1897 or M1912 shotgun in "Trench Gun" configuration. The base model is unclear.
Two snipers of the Armed Response Unit hold unidentified rifles. One of these guns is seen only in distance, and another one is seen blurry due to fast motion.
