Rose Street is a 2003 movie directed by Margarethe von Trotta (The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum) which is based on the so-called Rosenstrasse protest that took place in Berlin in 1943. New Yorker Ruth Weinstein has just buried her husband. In her grief, she recalls her Jewish Orthodox religion and orders 30 days of mourning for the entire family. Moreover, she rejects the marriage of her daughter Hannah to the South American Luis. This is met with complete incomprehension by Hannah. In order to find out the reason for her mother's behavior, who has never spoken a word about her past, Hannah goes to Berlin in search of clues. There she gets in touch with 90-year-old Lena Fischer, who finally breaks the wall of silence.
