Patriots Day Peter Berg and follows the events before and after the terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon in 2013. The film's cast includes Mark Wahlberg , J.K. Simmons , John Goodman , Kevin Bacon and Michelle Monaghan . The film also marks the third collaboration between Berg and Wahlberg that was based on real events, following 2013's Lone Survivor Deepwater Horizon .
