Murder by Decree is a British-Canadian 1979 thriller directed by Bob Clark and starring Christopher Plummer as Sherlock Holmes and James Mason as Dr. Watson. The story uses Arthur Conan Doyle's characters but doesn't follow any of Holmes novels or stories: Sherlock Holmes hunts on Jack the Ripper but finds out that the mad killer has friends in high places.
