M1841 Mississippi rifled musket was a percussion cap battle rifle, issued to US Army and used in Seminole Wars, Mexican–American War and American Civil War. The rifle was produced on Harpers Ferry Armory, originally in .54 caliber and after 1855 in .58 caliber that became standard for Army rifles; many older Mississippi rifles were re-bored. The nickname "Mississippi" originated from the volunteer regiment Mississippi Rifles under Col. Jefferson Davis that was the first unit to use these guns.
