Hunting the Devil (Okhota na dyavola; another English release title is Devil Hunt) is a 2017 Russian adventure TV series. In 1937 secret services of Soviet Union, Germany, UK and Japan clash in the struggle for the secret of the "death ray" that was invented by Russian scientist Mikhail Philippov in early 1900s. Now the traces of the powerful weapon that can change the face of modern war are found in Finland. Film director Max Livius (Sergey Bezrukov), a former Russian officer Maksim Levitin who emigrated to Finland after the Russian revolution, finds himself involved in this events.
The following weapons were used in the television series Hunting the Devil (Okhota na dyavola):
Nagant M1895 revolvers are used by Maksim Levitin alias Max Livius (Sergey Bezrukov), NKVD agent Anna Yartseva (Mariya Lugovaya), the head of the Special Department of NKVD Gleb Ivanovich Bokiy (Evgeniy Stychkin), German language teacher Andrey Aleksandrovich Koltsov (Ivan Dobronravov), Capt. of State Security Markovskiy (Oleg Geraskin) and other Soviet State Security officers, and operatives of the Finnish secret police Valpo (Valtiollinen poliisi), notably Valpo head Esko Riekki's unnamed chief assistant (Maksim Mityashin).
Nagant M1895 "Blef"
One of Koltsov-Handel's Nagants switches to a blank-firing "Blef" (VPO-503 "Nagan-S"). "Blef" revovlers are also used by several of State Security officers. This model is identified by a horisontal groove on the frame below the front part of the cylinder and unnaturally large bore.
Pistols
TT-33
TT-33 pistols are used by NKVD hitman Shtilman (Ilya Lyubimov), a Soviet diplomat Sergey Mukhin (Sergey Safronov), and a criminal Albinos ("Albino") (Stanislav Lesnoy). In the scene, set in France in 1948, the Special Inspector of French DST (Direction de la Surveillance du Territoire) Pierre Gegnac (Andrey Kurganov) also uses a TT (hardly a common gun in post-war France). Both pre- and post-1947 pistols are seen.
TT-33 (MP-81)
In the scene in Livius' house, Shtilman's (Ilya Lyubimov) TT-33 constantly changes due to a row of continuity errors. One of the versions of TT, used by Shtilman (Ilya Lyubimov) and then taken from him by Anna Yartseva (Mariya Lugovaya), is a less-lethal MP-81. An MP-81 is also seen in hands of Max's friend, agent of Briish Secret Intelligence Service Phil Kilby (Artyom Tkachenko) (a clear reference to Kim Philby). MP-81 can be identified by the protruding angular magazine that differs from the one of the genuine TT, the size of the muzzle and new-made wide grips.
TT-33 (MP-656K)
MP-656K, CO2 guns converted from live TT-33 pistols, are used in several scenes, notably seen in hands of Max (Sergey Bezrukov), Anna Yartseva (Mariya Lugovaya), Shtilman (Ilya Lyubimov), Riekki's chief assistant (Maksim Mityashin), and Albinos (Stanislav Lesnoy). Two props are seen, one with pre-1947 slide serration and another one with post-1947.
FN Model 1903
An FN Model 1903 is the main gun of Phil Kilby (Artyom Tkachenko). One of the DST agents (Andrey Kurnosov) holds an FN 1903 (probably same gun reused) in the scene, set in 1948. In firing scenes the FN 1903 is replaced with various versions of TT.
Luger P08 (ME Luger P08)
Luger P08 pistols, widely used throughout the series, turn out to be blank-firing ME Luger P08 version, identified by the smooth back of the gun and markings, seen on some close-ups. Probably a single gun is reused. Lugers are used by Phil Kilby (Artyom Tkachenko) and Finnish Army Lt. Juhani Timonen (Artyom Krylov) in the scenes, set in 1937, and by Otto Skorzeny (Evgeniy Karpov) and his agents Martin (Sebastien Sisak), Helga (Viktoria Malektorovich) and Heinz (Nikita Lyushnenko) in the scenes, set in 1948.
Walther P38 (Denix)
Walther P38 pistol, seen in several scenes in 1937 and 1948, turns out to be a Denix replica.
Reck Perfecta
Gas-firing Reck Perfecta pistols are used to represent a generic pocket pistol. Two pistols with different grips are used. Anna Yartseva (Mariya Lugovaya) and Shtilman (Ilya Lyubimov) carry Perfecta pistols in several scenes, set in 1937, while Marie (Diana Enakieva) uses a Perfecta in the scene, set in 1948.
Unidentified pistol
In the scene, set in 1948, Max (Sergey Bezrukov) uses a suppressed pistol of unknown model against Skorzeny's agents. If limiting to the pistols, already seen in the series, some version of TT-33 may be a possible guess but it's too vague.
Submachine Guns
Sten Mk II
Anachronistic Sten Mk II submachine guns are used by the Finnish police in 1937. The personnel of French DST use Stens in episodes, set in 1948. At least four Stens are seen on screen, and they show quite realistic shooting.
MP38
Otto Skorzeny's men use MP38 submachine guns in the scenes, set in 1948.
MP40
Anachronistic MP40 submachine guns are used by the special group of Otto Skorzeny during the operation in Finland in 1937. Max (Sergey Bezrukov) is armed with an MP40 during the raid on Wewelsburg castle, as like as several SS guards. In the scene, set in 1948, MP40 are again seen in hands of Skorzeny's men.
MP41
A sentry in Wewelsburg carries an MP41. The bright wood allows to make a guess that the submachine gun is a Denix replica but this is only a guess.
Rifles
SVT-40
NKVD personnel use SVT-40 rifles, inappropriate for 1937, in several scenes. Both early and late versions of SVT-40 can be seen, distinguished by the shape of the muzzle brake (the late version of the muzzle brake was also used on AVT-40 that looks the same except for 15-round magazine).
Mosin Nagant M1891/30 Sniper Rifles are also used by NKVD personnel. Krause (Aleksandr Zuev), a German agent in Finland, is armed with an M91/30 sniper rifle during the attack on the police, escorting Lanzer.
Karabiner 98k
SS guards in Wewelsburg castle are armed with Karabiner 98k rifles. Given somewhat unnaturally bright wood, there is a possibility that these rifles are Denix replicas.
Karabiner 98k Sniper
In the scene, set in 1948, Heinz (Nikita Lyushnenko) and Phil Kilby (Artyom Tkachenko) use Karabiner 98k rifles with sniper scope.
