Handguns

Valtro OSS 117

In the first episode, the first gun that is clearly seen is a Valtro OSS 117, a blank firing copy of the Walther PPK. The gun is used to preform 'executions' of 22 members of the Ba'ath party members and used by Saddam (Yigal Naor) personally to kill his best friend and ally Adnan Hamdani.

Beretta 84F

Now a slightly older Uday Hussein (Philip Arditti) loses control of himself in a Baghdad nightclub shortly after Iraq declares 'victory' over Iran. He fires his Beretta 84F wildly into the crowd, understandably causing a panic. Uday, however, 'persuades' the crowd to act and behave normally. Uday also uses the pistol to intimidate Kamel Hana.

A Colt M1911A1 is seen first at a gun range which is used by Saddam and his military advisers. It is then used by Saddam to threaten Uday in the prison cell after Uday kills Kamel Hana.

Walther P38

Ali Hassan al-Majid (Uri Gavriel), uncle to General Hussein Kamel and his brother Saddam Kamel, fires his Walther P38 at his nephews. In the real gunfight in February 1996, the battle lasted over 13 hours resulting in the deaths of both Hussein and Saddam. In the episode, the gunfight is severely shortened, lasting only a few minutes, with Hussein being shot multiple times and killed by Ali Hassan's P38. The P38 is also used by Saddam himself during his hiding, as well as the personnel he keeps around him.

AKM's & AK-47's

Variants of the AK-47 assault rifle are used many times throughout the series as many of Saddam's men and infantry carry AK-47s or AKMs. Also, in the final shootout, Qusay's son Mustapha use an AK-47 to stop US troops from entering Uday and Qusay's safehouse, even though he is clearly nervous and does not know how to fire effectively.

M16A1

The M16A1 is used many times in the latter part of the series, often seen as a replacement for the AK-47. It is used by Saddam's army and also by General Hussein Kamal (Amr Waked) and his brother Col. Saddam Kamel (Daniel Lundh) during the shootout which claims both their lives. In an eerily similar shootout, Uday and Qusay (Mounir Margoum) fight for their lives with the same gun.

Many if not all of the 101st Airborne Division soldiers that storm Uday and Qusay's house are seen using the M16A1 with a few modifications, for example, they are dressed-up to look like M16A2s, with some being fitted with heat shields and M203 launchers (below) or "PEQ" laser aiming devices. For the time period this is set in, mid-2003, these are not the weapons any of the U.S. forces in Iraq would have been using. In mid-2003, most U.S. soldiers would have been using the M16A2 or M4.

BGM-71 TOW

In the closing stages of the gunfight between Saddam's sons and a section of the 101st Airborne, a missile from a BGM-71 TOW mounted on a HMMWV is fired at Uday and Qusay, killing them and Qusay's son, Mustapha, pretty much instantly.
