The Golden Compass Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. The story is set in an alternate Earth where magic exists and every person is accompanied by a dæmon, a manifestation of their inner spirit represented by an intelligent animal. Orphan Lyra Belacqua embarks on a journey to the Arctic to search for her kidnapped friends while being pursued by agents of the Magisterium, a powerful religious order. Along the way, Lyra uncovers a conspiracy that has the potential to change the world.
This is the first screen adaptation of the His Dark Materials book series. A television series adaptation was also produced and premiered in the UK on BBC and in the US on HBO in 2019.
