Collier Flintlock Revolver
The Collier Flintlock Revolver is recognized as the first production revolving firearm, and predates Colts 1836 patent by twelve years. It was patented in the USA and UK in 1818 and in France in 1819. The Collier is classified into First, Second and Third Models. Twelve First Model Colliers are known today and are considered prototypes whose cylinder is either manually turned or rotated by a clockwork spring when cocked. First Model variants include a smoothbore musket, shotgun, rifle, blunderbuss, carbine and pistol. The Second Model Collier is a 5-shot flintlock with a manually rotated cylinder. Approximately two hundred long guns or pistols were made and were partially machine-built. The Third Model is the first percussion revolver, with a manually turned 5-shot cylinder, and approximately fifty were built.
