Algiers

Algiers is a 1938 crime film starring Charles Boyer as Pepe Le Moko, a master thief who fled France with a treasure trove of gems to Algeria. The literary model was the novel Pépé le Moko by Henri La Barthe, which was filmed in France in 1936 with Jean Gabin. For two years, he has lived in the infamous Casbah section of Algiers ruling its tangled streets with avarice and cunning. The government wants him taken out of circulation but the canny inspector Slimane is willing to play a waiting game. Pepe is reminded of the free spaces of his native land when a stunning Parisian named Gaby turns his world upside down and brings down the wrath of his Algerian mistress, Ines.
The cast also includes Johnny Downs, Charles D. Brown, Robert Greig, Leonid Kinskey, Bert Roach, Ben Hall, and Gino Corrado.
